ALTNOY

A Little Too Not Over You by David Archuleta
I have to confess to a having been a little underwhelmed by this one on my first review of it last night, even while conceding that I am not the slightest bit close to the target demographic for it. David’s voice has such depth, such complexity–not to mention his ability to color and shade his performances with incredible subtlety and intelligence–that when I hear it being deployed for purposes such as this, I can’t help but lament a certain loss of opportunity. But David, as we all know, is much more than a gifted singer with great skills. He is a consummate musician, a pop music connoisseur, and, lest we forget, still a teenager. This kind of song must be acknowledged as the right kind of vehicle for at least a certain–and, at this point, significant–aspect of his recording career.
On a second listen this morning I liked it a lot more. In particular, there’s a sweetness about it that is incredibly appealing without being mawkish or cloying. David is proving to be very adept at this difficult balance in choosing material. And, as evidenced by the bridge section tacked on to this preview clip, he is also smart to pick songs that allow him some extemporaneous opportunities, not even so much to showcase his melismatic capabilities (which have been overdone in pop music marketplace for some time now), but to include that heart-tugging cry in his voice, which he tends to pull out at the ends of certain vocal riffs. The falsetto in this section just elicits in me one, huge, s#!*-eating grin. At the risk of emphasizing my flair for the obvious, I just love this boy.
The final test of the viability of this one may very well be that after only two listens, I found myself humming the damn chorus while preparing breakfast. If that’s not an indication of market potential, I don’t know what is.

Ah rascal, David just has a power about him doesn’t he? As I am on my blackberry this weekend, it took me well over two hours to finally hear this little bit of brilliance. I think my emotion last night was frantic. To be reading comments without having heard it made me crazy and I decided I was NOT going to sleep until I’d listened. 2:30 AM was my bed time.
Love this song. Also, I understand that Diane Warren’s song is tear invoking (snarkie archie’s) per Brett. 11/11 will take an eternity at the rate I’m going.

Josie thank you for the info at snarkie archie’s. Went there and listened to Prayer of the Children and would love if David recorded it. I guess we have to wait until 11/11 to find out.
I hope you are having fun with your daughters.
Oh and I love this new song David can really sing anything can’t he.

I am waiting the album for the ballad, and that will be the real deal… which could showcase his voice, but still modern.. I am wondering if that would be his third single.

Oh Rascal, my reaction almost to a tee. Since I am one of those David fans who loves his voice it is always hard to look at these pop songs objectively. Ya, know, if I could afford it, I’d sponsor David’s career so he could start off with the organic, David sound that I know he’ll eventually produce. Good point about his being 17. He has always indicated in his public comments that he is 17 and wants to do 17 year old music, like what he is listening to.
So having listened to Top 40 since August 1 and watched Top 20 videos on Vh1 (since I am compelled to be on this journey I am for darn sure going to do it right and learn everything I am supposed to learn), I have developed somewhat of a novice’s sense of Top 40. I think the format of Crush and the other 3 teasers is definitely Top 40 and has an edge and sound different enough to propel David to the forefront.
Working in the world of business in another industry, it is reassuring to see Jive (and now Azoff) focused on what it takes for David to have a successful music career. They know what sells and the demographics of who buys. In any industry you have to have the right stuff and then package and market it so it sells. The better is sells the more unique you can get in your niche if you so choose. No different here.
I read that the “eeh, eeh, eeh, ohhs” are “akon” like. Akon has been big in the Billboard charts as an hip-hop, R&B, rapper singer-songwriter and record producer. I like this sound, although it is not David’s voice. It is the first time I have heard another voice with David’s in a song. At first, it was a shock but I think it adds a new dimension and is certainly an experiment. I like the linking of David with Akon.
I read at IDF from soundscene that Jive put out teasers before Jordin Sparks 2nd single was released. Speculation is high as to why FOD got this teaser. Lot’s are thinking David put in on FOD for feedback. Who knows? Makes everything fun and edgy!

This is my favorite of the 3 song snippets. The smart musical intro grabs me right away. The (calypso?) rhythms get you dancing and swaying. The “heart-tugging cry in his voice” as rascal puts it, is what sends it over the top.
That being said, I am still waiting for a song where we can just enjoy David’s voice – where he can really get into a song and tell it to us. How about one cut that is just voice with guitar or piano? Simple is good!
Josie – thanks for the snarkie link, good reading.

Hi Rascal–Yep, I do believe we got some serious “market potential” running rampant for our boy hero. I feel that way about all of the leaked tunes (tho not everybody agrees with me). My playlist test just screams to me that when/if any of those songs are played on the radio people will LOVE them and crave more. jmo.
Good morning Josie! {{hug}} and Silverfoxe! {{hug}}. OMG the Prayer of the Children. Just thinking of David singing that is almost more than I can take. When I hear David singing in my mind’s ear I really do feel he can change the world…significantly. Phew! I’m reminded of David Cook’s comment in a recent interview snippet where he said that David (A.) is very focused… and…that he makes Cook feel like an immature kid next to him…lol. I can relate.
Anyway, back to spazzing about pop hits… David is moz def running with the Big Dogs (as we all knew he would)… and my excitement is officially out of hand. (for the record.) (oh, like tell us something we don’t already know, beebee)

Rascal, I felt the same way too the first time I listened to ALTNOY. But after much contemplation, I realized that this song makes David “relevant and current” to the market. Plus this song showcases his vocal range not to mention the great lyrics too. David will get to do more of the Ballads we love and which is definitely his forte but just not now if we want him to have the longetivity in the music biz. For now, David is definitely doing a great job!!!

Gee, when I wrote that post there were two posts… dang! Well good morning to gemzone, MYYK, Kizzi, gerry & LIZ, too!
David has proven in no uncertain terms that he is a viable SEVENTEEN YEAR OLD pop-loving, pop-delivering force to be reckoned with. I hope he has all the fun and joy in the world playing in that sandbox. Heaven knows WE will! And he can and I’m sure will give us that and everything else he can. Right when I first encountered David on Idol I just remember being overwhelmed with the potential and the excitement of expriencing it all unfold before me. And here we go…it’s just the beginning. My seatbelt is buckled! Such heady stuff, this journey.

#8 beebee: Saw that interview too. Cook said something like “David is a 30 year old man in a 17 year old body.”
It seems that David was so prepared for this. I looked at his AI audition on YouTube again and when he was explaining his vocal chord problem (so cute with the fingers as vocal chords) and he talked about risk of surgery and that he “just wants to SING!” And, so, he is SINGING!
I was also thinking about a statement Simon made on a talk show about how hard another contestant had worked in comparison to David (because of David’s age) and since then as I have learned more about David’s dedication to singing and then the tour and his dedication to his fans at pre-concert and post concert meets and the release of Crush and then his album, I think David is the consummate hard worker.

isn’t it just about the most exciting and exstacticky ( is that a word?) feeling in Archuworld to be here, almost as ONE with David..this Heart Connection we have with him, like nothing I have ever felt except when my own babies were born..that’s the feeling I have now, like watching one of my newborn babies in complete awe & love, my heart so full like it would burst..Is that cra-zeh? Wanting this for David so much..wanting the whole world to join us in this journey with him..it’s pure joy and contentment when in this time of world uncertainty, what better way to unite than through David’s music??..OH My..geesh, do I sound happy today or what? Do it one song at a time, David, one song at a time!!

Oi, Kizzi! Your mentioning of Simon backing another contestant because he’s “done the time” is such a dismissal of David’s own struggles. Vocal paralysis that left a young teenager, who loves to sing, depressed for a few years. That’s all I have to say.
How fortunate we all are that he’s willing to devote to his craft the way he does, which is all about hard work.
Anyway, ALTNOY grabbed me from the get go. I didn’t need it to grow on me with repeat listens (and I’m still playing it on a loop).
This one is the guaranteed hit, I’m telling you.

SF – I love the “when my own babies were born” because I have thought at times the thrills, joy and awe that I have experienced on this David journey have compared to the first time I looked into my newborns’ eyes–same type of heart connection. The sense of awe I can actually take once step further–as I have had the same awe in listening to Davids music as when I visited magnificent world vistas and art (the Grand Canyon, the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids, Stonehenge, the art of Michelangelo, DaVinci, Rembrandt, Monet, etc., and most recently, the lava flow of Kilauea and the Napoli coast in Hawaii).
When someones music impacts you at that level, you are literally swept off your feet and it does change who you are because it puts an indelible mark on your essence–I relate it to a recipe that now has an ingredient change.
Ok beebee, I am over the top today, too; better put on my seatbelt so I don’t float away into the stratosphere!

rascal, “that heart-tugging cry in his voice, which he tends to pull out at the ends of certain vocal riffs” is EXACTLY one of the things about David’s voice that I so love, so thank you for giving once again expression to some ofl the things we feel about David’s artistry.
I am loving so far all of his upcoming songs. I can’t even choose which one I like more in the end. I find myself humming different ones at different times. Pop is the way to go for David for many reasons, but I too am anxiously awaiting his unplugged, accoustic, organic track showcasing his pure voice singing a message song.
David had sent me back a postcard back in September shortly after the tour ended which said towards the end “I hope you enjoy the upcoming music!” David! I do!! I do!!! He also added “It’s definitely a challenge but an amazing experience.” Which got me pondering on what challenge he was referring to – the short timeline for pushing out the debut CD? the less than adequate involvement in reviewing the songs because of the tour obligations? lack of chance and opportunity to really write his own music to his satisfaction? more pop song inclusion than he would like? etc. etc. But David knows he is living his dream and that this is an amazing opportunity.
rascal’s words “depth, complexity, subtlety, intelligence” really say it all about our David being a truly “gifted singer” and a “consummate musician”. We LOVE your upcoming music David!

I’m really liking ALTNOY as a showcase of David’s pop skills. There’s something about the way he sings that verse that is very hip, young, and current. Filmavenue over at IDF used the word “witty,” and said this is the most contemporary of his vocals compared to the other songs we’ve heard.
And that bridge? He hits an Eb5. Wow!
And then I listen to “Touch My Hand” again and he takes on ANOTHER vocal persona! It’s great to hear him skillfully adapt into so many different singing styles!

I played all 3 leaked clips for my husband (who’s been to 2 AI shows with me!) and he liked this one the best but said again, “it doesn’t show off half of what he can do” (the Reader’s Digest version of your eloquent appraisal, Rascal, lol).
My Hands still has me hook, line and sinker but I LOVE David’s soaring vocals here. I do find the background music a little (don’t hate me, folks) cheesy, for want of a better word. But I know this isn’t the final cut, and I’m sure David won’t send it out to us until he’s crafted it to perfection. I do Trust the Archulator! (This is SOOO exciting. Maybe they’re leaking the CD in dribs and drabs so we don’t all spontaneously combust on Nov. 11th!)

Vermeer — there is one thing that really tends to work my last nerve–the preponderance of people asking me to choose a favorite anything of David’s. Not only CAN’T I do it… I don’t like the reductionist, linear approach that kind of thinking promotes. David is nothing if not exquisitely EXPANSIVE. Choosing a favorite, for me, is absurd. I so wish that this would have been David’s first single. I know, . . . not as appealing to the all-important teen/pre-teen demographic, but I like it so much more. It feels to me like a “bridge” for him to somewhat more mature music. I hope that this is David’s next single. Unless, of course, my mind is changed by another, even better, snippet! beebee #32, I definitely am getting that feeling too of David playing the “Pop Radio Game” and being a “maestro.” Each song so far has been somewhat different stylistically from the others, and each stands alone as a good pop tune!
Not only that, some of the combinations of styles (TMH comes to mind) are kind of fresh and new!
Perhaps David’s first album will be remembered as the one where David toured the world of pop, and his second will be the one where he stakes his own ArchuPopNation??
I know I am perhaps guilty of having too-high expectations of David, but I honestly have not been disappointed once yet!

This was what “filmavenue” said on IDF (I don’t know anything about this commenter but it rings true for me):
http://idolforums.com/index.php?showtopic=581260&st=920
I’ll restate that I think that with this track, David has truly arrived as a current, pop singer.
On AI, we know he excelled at the emotional/crying tone of his singing. But he lacked humor and edge in his vocal. And pop singing is a different animal. You gotta show that you have wit and wanna have fun. That’s why Simon correctly made that comment when David sang “With You” on the show. And remember Paula’s comment after this song about being “choppier” with his singing.
And the other three tracks, Crush and the Hands songs, I feel David was still lagging behind in this department. He was transitioning but didn’t really make it. His tone and delivery I felt still had this sad mournful tone and coupling it with the humorous lyrics, it just sounded awkward and a bit whiny.
Here I genuinely feel David’s witty personality in the singing.
Here I genuinely feel David’s witty personality in the singing.
Obviously there’s nothing wrong with David’s normal type of singing and he can still melt hearts with that with some of the tracks on the album (i hope he will include them).
But the current pop singing is a different type of singing and requires different skills and just b/c it’s popular it doesn’t mean that it’s an inferior type of singing. If David wants to be versatile, he has to master it.
Love this review!

For me, ALTNOY = Instant/Sudden Impact.
I agree with Isabella’s comment, “It feels to me like a “bridge” for him to somewhat more mature music.”
Combine this with Rascal’s observation, “his ability to color and shade his performances with incredible subtlety and intelligence–that when I hear it being deployed for purposes such as this, I can’t help but lament a certain loss of opportunity.”
….I simply marvel at the melding of Jive’s skills (dexterity) and David’s artistry (adroitness) to imperceptably (”incredible subtlety” – Rascal) lead (coax, if you will) the listening audience to an ultimate more desireable artistic destination (”mature music” – Isabella).
So, I see Isabella’s bridge being intelligently constructed (”coloring and shading” – Rascal)…and perhaps the opportunity is not being lost, but seized in a manner that I can’t explain – yet I am enjoying watching it unfold in a way that far surpasses my expectations.
David’s soaring and emotive vocals are palpaple…we feel your pain, David!

A thought on the complaints lodged when a song does not showcase David’s vocal skills….Picasso was an accomplished technician, yet one does not look to Picasso for technical skills in depicting an apple- that’s not what he was about….in the same vein, while I do enjoy David’s runs etc. I don’t love his music because of his incredible range- in fact “crazy,” which I am crazy for, has not much range— but, wow! – what a feeling, what is it about the way he sings the word “echo”?!! David is both a gifted technician and an artist who hears the world in a profound way and enables us to hear it in his way when he shares it with us…this happens, for me, every time he sings, not only when he shows his range…that is the gift that is his music…

Beebee, so that’s a raspberry. I will remember and and add it to my word list.
Joner, you are not insane although you do seem to have bats in your belfrey.
I have come to really like ALTNOY but it wasn’t instant for me. It is exciting to hear snippets of new songs but I will never forget the first time I heard Crush. My heart was racing and tears flowed as I heard what David could do. The young man is only 17 and listen to what he has done and how he is progressing. This is not magic people-David is working hard. What a gift he has and how well he is using it. I am delighted to hear him being 17 and performing for his own peers. It’s good for me-Mrs. I-only-like-crooners is doing some stretching and growing and loving every moment of it.
I was deeply moved by Prayer of the Children. I think David cares very much about what violence is doing to the children of the world. I would love to hear him sing this song. My son spent 2 years in the Peace Corp in Africa and his heart was rent many times but he was also very angry how the governments take advantage of their people. He was so impressed with how hard the women and children in Africa work. His respect for the men was far less. Does this song remind you of another one a number of years back called Dr. Mr. Jesus that addressed child abuse?

Dma- I love “It’s good for me-Mrs. I-only-like-crooners is doing some stretching and growing and loving every moment of it”…I think that’s what authentic artists do for us…they bring us to where they are…it makes no sense for us to say to the artist, “come show me what I already see”, its much more fun to let the artist show us the unseen…

Do I or do I not KNOW our David…this is a copy of my post #58 ( I think ) on the previous article….Ahem!
HAHA! The title “A Little TOO Not Over You” kinda like his comment on his last vlog about it being nice to be around kids his own age on ICarly “cuz it hasn’t been happening a whole TOO lot lately” So..see the similarities in the use of HIS grammar on the vlog and the title? hmmm, could he have had a hand in writing this song??
I ask again..DO I or DO I NOT KNOW OUR DAVID??

Like Rascal and some others, at first hearing I did not listen too carefully and was frustrated by these spoilers. I was thinking – 3 songs already? so only gave it a cursory listen. Today I gave the song another chance and and then BAM – it hit me like a ton of bricks especially the bridge. Now I get to find out that David co-wrote this song. For me the guitar intro has a little latin flavor and it may be a tribute to his cultural bkground. Remenber in his Pittsburg vlog he mentioned trying to write on guitar before going kayaking with Jason. Also if I’m not mistaken, one of the co-writers MG he met up with in Toronto. One last note, the first 5 seconds of looking at POTC brough me to tears – I think I will be bawling like a baby if David includes this on his album. If that is the case then I KNOW I will not be able to handle listening to his entire CD on 11/11.

I was trying to remember who posted that comment about his grammar. As soon as I read the news I recalled reading the comment but couldn’t remember who wrote it. If you recall I told you last week that you are fairly PHYSIC when it comes to David. BTW – never got the chance to mention how moved I was at the poem you wrote.

Vermeer…Hi! It’s cool to see a fellow designer here. And just for the record, I love love love everything about DA’s cover. It’s the wallpaper on my blackberry. lol
ALTNOY. Oh how I am enjoying another morsel on this David Archuleta sampler platter! When I heard that immediate R&B flair in the verse, I couldn’t help but grin. I always thought the tone and texture of David’s voice fit that style perfectly. But the song doesn’t settle there, and neither does he. He can definitely “hang” with the different mix of styles, and holy moly, that bridge. We all know David’s too talented to be pegged, and this song is yet another testament that Jive knows that too.

Ronaldsf, I am absolutely loving SonicEther’s remix and love what you did with the video. Great job!
So, David wrote this, huh? That explains a few things, I think, as I’m hearing a lot more vocal experimentation going on with this track.
I’ve never really thought about things like “wit” and “humor” as something that could be injected into a singing voice, so I’m learning musically with this conversation. Fascinating stuff!

About David’s song writing..If he can write or co-write about an “experience” he has not yet experienced himself like this song and make it sound real & true so that we can feel what he’s “feeling”, just wait til he starts to write about what IS true in his life now and in his past cuz I’ve alway thought he has so many stories and melodies in his head just bursting to come out..Then when he experiences his first love and he writes songs about it, all you ballad/love song lovers will really think you died & went to heaven!! And the awards will start coming one after another..it’s inevitible.
Jonus..you may think I’m nutty, but at times I feel as if I’ve known David before..in another life..like we all have and we loved him then too..Now don’t anybody try to have me committed..I have a right to my beliefs, & I bet others feel the same way as I.

I’ve been lurking on IDF today. Some commenters there think it could be about crush that he didn’t pursue and now it is too late so it could be his own experience. Lyrics make sense with that theory too.
And, Silverfoxe, I don’t think you are nutty at all. Those of us with ODD have a connectedness to David that we each are explaining in ways that make sense to ourselves–thus why I am searching for information and communicating in cyberspace at a furious pace for the first time in my life. As someone said on another thread (can’t remember if it was ram? maybe) you embrace life with arms wide open! That is a thing of true beauty to behold!

I know..isn’t it incredible that he co-wrote it? I read that he is listed first on the song credits, meaning that he probably developed the concept and perhaps even much of the structure for the song. It never crossed my mind at all
It’s what I tell myself
What we had has come and gone
You’re better off with someone else
It’s for the best, I know it is
But I see you sometimes
I try to hide
What I feel inside
And I turn around,
You’re with him now
I just can’t figure it out
Tell me why you’re so hard to forget
Don’t remind me, I’m not over it
Tell me why I can’t seem to face the truth
I’m just a little too not over you
Not over you – Ooh
Memories are supposed to fade
What’s wrong with my heart
Shake it off, let it ….
…. Not over you
Maybe I regret everything I said
No way to take it all back – Yeah
Now I’m on my own
How I let you go, I’ll never understand
I’ll never understand

Or maybe singing about “breaking up” and “losing someone to someone else” is something he’s heard his friends and maybe his brother & sis talk about..you know, the anguish and misery after a break-up. He talked about how cra-zeh he thinks it all is for teens his age & younger to act like it’s the end of the world on one of the interviews he did during AI. He even said he tells his friends to “get over it, you’re only 17!!” Hmmmm?
David can’t “relate” but he can understand cuz of what he’s witnessed other teens go through. He puts himself in their shoes and imagines how he would feel. David IS sensitive and caring, but he’s also very HONEST..I think he doesn’t ever want to actually go through what he’s singing about. I doubt he ever will..who in their right mind would ever break up with David?? haha!

SF – yes, really.Simple version= We believe that we have all always existed, as brothers and sisters, forever. And that we knew each other before we were born, when were still with God, that we had friends and made promises to those friends regarding things that would happen here, in this life. So, maybe, we were all David’s “army” there, and promised to be his protectors and champions now. When we heard him sing, we recognized him and came together, for him.
Works for me!

thOK folks, this is it, David’s unofficial (but pretty sure) new album tracklist. I can’t guarantee the order is correct, but the songs are all supposed to be 100% confirmed…
1 Crush
2 My Hands
3 Touch My Hand
4 Barriers – (No Doubt meets Bob Marley)
5 A Little Too Not Over You
6 Your Eyes Don’t Lie – not sure how to describe (Bonnie Raitt meets country/folk)
7 You Can = Ballad (acoustic guitar) very beautiful melody and lyric, very “david”
8 Running – Midi Mafia – R&B/Pop/Kinda jazzy, Very Cool!!
9 Don’t Let Go – U2 meets the Fray style – pop/alternative (David co-wrote with JC from NSync)
10 Desperate – Big mature sounding power ballad – Desmond Child (Bon Jovi hit songwriter)
11 To Be With You – Ballad #2 (piano) Pretty love ballad
12 Angels – new version – Ballad #3 (David on piano)
13 Works for Me – Bonus Track (Walmart only) – organic bluesy pop – David co-write with Daniel Bedingfield
There are also some other songs that are bonus tracks that they aren’t sure how they are going to use them yet, but a couple of them are also supposed to be ones David wrote or co-wrote. I’ll post details once I get more info…
From what I’ve been privvy to hear, David and Jeff are relieved to be finally finished and are satisfied with the way Jive chose the songs. It was Jive and not David that had the final say from what I understand. D & J had hoped more of David’s were able to make it on to the actual 12 track album, but they are happy that they were able to have a wide range of styles and songwriters. I also was told that David wrote and/or recorded 10 songs in the last 2-3 weeks trying to get as many to choose from as possible before D-Day.
I think we are all in for a real pleasant surprise as these songs all sound like an amazing diversity of musical styles and sounds. The ballads are also supposed to be unbelievable!!!
So, let the speculating begin and I can’t wait to hear this whole actual album!!!!

Yes, it can be seen as a pro and a con. I hope with the variety of styles, the album also has a cohesive feel to it. I was a little worried reading about all the different styles represented. Then again, maybe it is a little overstated by the original person who posted the song list. After all, the four songs we have heard thus far all have a similar feel and sound to them, and would make sense on the same album.
Also, how many 17-year olds would put out an album that displays so much diversity and musical maturity? If anything this should speak to David’s prodigious talent

As far as the critics not liking the diversity. Pfbtttt! on them…
That being said, LOL!, I would think and hope that Jive would have taken that into account before setting the track list. Even though from all reports they gave David some creative control, I think they would have reined him in a little if they didn’t see it going in the direction they wanted. And also, from all reports, David gave them lots of songs to choose from. For now, I’m going to trust Jive on this one since according the the OP of the track list, Jive made the final decision and David and Jeff were happy with it. Depending on the arrangements and how David did them there could be a lot of crossover potential also.

Duuuude! I so need to hear what that one sounds like. I’m loving the eclectic flavor of this album. In many ways, it’s vintage David, because his tastes are so wide reaching, and I’m actually amazed Jive was willing to try different things with him. You would think a record label would be the one to really crack down on one kind of music style.
I hope the variety means that they really think David’s talents (and appeal) are so vast and have such mass appeal that they really are trying to market him simultaneously to different markets.
Looks like Archu World Domination is a guaranteed thing.

David said he was going to try “a little bit of this, and a little bit of that, but mostly pop still, I don’t wanna limit myself..to see what direction I may wanna go in the future..yeah” (you all know how he talks). He said this more than once and this is what he’s done. So yes, I am trusting David to know what he’s doing. And Jive apparently does too. I still think he had more input than the poster on IDF who gave us the list says. I still think he or one of “his people”, not Jive, emailed the last song to FOD. I buh-lieve JIVE may be more accustomed to having a diamond in the rough for their “first timers” who need a lot of help & guidence. In David, they have a perfect, flawless, pristine diamond..they would do well to trust David when it comes to HIS music. So far Jive has done right by David. And AZOFF..well David’s name is popping up everywhere, so they also are doing their job!

awestruck & LittleMushroom yes the diversity of David’s album can be perceived as negative cos guess what they will say now? He has no identity! D*&^ if you do & d*&^ if you don’t, right?
I don’t care what those morons say. The important thing is for this album to be a hit, expand his market base and establish him as a force to be reckon with OUTSIDE the ArchiePlanet so that he could have a greater say in his future albums.
As I said in RTM rating, I hope that TMH & MH are simply the better tracks cos they have great market potential — esp ALTNOY — BUT I also hope that the album will have that vintage-David offering which will maximize his vocal range & prowess. Even at least 1 or 2 cuts in the album would do. It can’t be all Chris Brown-ishy, Ne-yo-ishy sounding tracks, even if they have established at the onset that it will be a poppy album.
Meanwhile, IDF pax are spazzing & concerned about the leaks with torrent links — which they are not too familiar how it operates, if I base it on their comments. They should not worry cos those have been posted since last week and the tracks wasn’t finalized at that point. I could not offer any assurance cos the related thread was closed by the moderator already by the time I caught on the discussion. BUT, leaks are inevitable…
Whew! this will be a whirlwind of a week, wanna bet?

jackryan4DA – The torrent downloads referenced at IDF are undoubtedly bogus. I don’t know anything about any other fan bases, but I’m hard pressed to believe that there could be any that are more resourceful, diverse, non-competitive, and electronically empowered as Archie Nation. I don’t expect the initial online availability of the album to last even an hour before we all know about it.

Freo on #117, Rascal on #113 It is true that it took less than an hour for fans to get hold of Crush went it went online. But you know what? I was monitoring the torrent downloads and they were not that many. I would like to believe and give credit to the gifting campaign initiated by Team Archie. That minimized the illegal downloads. Am comparing this to the download activities of other artists, known and just being introduced. Speaks wekk of how the fans are serious in supporting The Archuleta.
In fact, I think I was the only “active” Archie that got & posted the flac version (mp3 format) of Crush cos I had to explain that to rickey’s, IDF & a couple of other sites.
Oh and rascal I know of another fanbase that is as cra-zeh (as silver would say it!) and technically proficient… and this was 2-3 years ago! I dunno if you have heard of Lukas Rossi (am sure the Canadians here know him) of the Rockstar Supernova fame. It was one of my guilty pleasures back then. But what I soooo love is his pre-Supernova music. Lukas is a genius lyricist – deep and sublime. And, he is a real rockstar, btw. From Lukas to David, shocked? Don’t be because both artists have music running trough their veins & soul, just different genre.

Put me on the bandwagon with those who feel they knew David before this life. I have felt that, too. (And didn’t know how to articulate it without sounding corny). I am OBSESSING over these song clips. David could sing Mary had a Little Lamb and I would melt. It doesn’t matter what he sings, what matters is that he is SINGING. Ahhhh, this is bliss.

So it’s 1:00 AM and I can’t sleep. I’m laying in bed thinking about WHY it is that David has captivated all of us. I can grasp the concept that he is a talented musician. I can appreciate his loving kindness and ability to read people. But there is something more. Something so intangible and unexplainable about HIM. His aura, his Spirit, his Being. Call it what you may–there is something unique and unparalleled about him it causes me to wonder how I ever TRULY appreciated music before he came into my life.

#109/awestruck – Calgary Wal-mart will carry David’s new album, starting from 7:00 am in the morning of Nov 11. I have been talking to Teresa from FOD for a while. She is a manager who works for Wal-mart in the west coast of the US. She is super nice to actually take the trouble to talk to the site manager of one Wal-mart Calgary branch which is located on BOW TRAIL & 37 STREET. The manager later on confirmed that Wal-mart Calgary will have David’s new album exactly on the day it is released. And HMV will be stocked with David’s album as well. I am going to the Wal-mart on Bow trail the first thing in the morning of Nov 11 so that I can get the bonus track (yes, I am determined), and I am going to get 20 copies. Rukiddingme, He has captured us all. I am just so amazed at his album titles and so pleased to see both Hands there. I am sure everything is tied together because this young man is a professional about music.
Silverfoxe mentioned she felt about David as she did her own children. I have three marvelous children which we raised in a small mountain town that celebrated children. They bloomed there winning awards, newspaper and TV coverage and friends galore. We were along for the ride. They all became professionals who want to leave their mark on the world but not for themselves but because they have hope for the future. David is not only a great talent, eyes, mouth and thighs eh eh eh but he wants to make a difference. David is hope. Everything is possible when we listen to him not only for him but for all of us.

Rukiddingme, I’ve long given up trying to explain this captivation! Take me, for instance. There is so much going on in my professional and personal life, but here I am taking MULTITASKING to the next level.
As busy as my schedule is, I still took the time to launch a resource site on All Things David and create a fan video! There is no other artist that would have me doing such things for them, especially because I’m fully preoccupied at the moment. The things I do for David. That’s no joke, and I think he’s so worth it (and the things I do for him give me a lot of joy, especially in these anxiety-filling times).
I feel blessed to have known him in this life (have no idea if I’ve known him in another).
Since I see some new posters on this thread, please allow me (in the interest of both David and self promotion) to share the links to my projects.

“Meanwhile, Cook’s “running mate,” David Archuleta’s first single, “Crush,” is up slightly on all the major charts after seven weeks. The single moved up three spots to #22 on the Hot 100 and six spots to #39 on Hot 100 Airplay. It held at #17 on the Pop 100 chart, and inched up one spot to #16 on Pop 100 Airplay.”

Thanks, Joner, for that report. Since David’s single is being compared to the success of the other Idols, my own interpretation for David’s success is that this is based on two things:
1. David’s popularity
2. Jive’s shrewd marketing (did you notice both David and Jordin Sparks, out of the other Idols, who are on different labels, are holding steady?).
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: David’s got all the cards lined up in his favor, but it takes a savvy label like Jive to steer him for both instant and long-term success.
We should all be grateful that, in this economic repression, soon to be depression, he’s on a label that knows how to play the game and is willing to build him up for the long haul.

Silverfoxe: I am laughing at this comment from SnarkyArchies below because it is so relatable and ties somewhat into your “looking into your babies’ eyes” sentiment yesterday:
“David gets all the girls ‘cuz he’s that irresistible combination of puppies, bunnies, newborns, and testosterone… clouds, sunshine, freshly mown grass and ice cream cones…soap and dancing in the rain…with a little husk thrown in…as in, corn husks.”
Such a glorious feast—gorgeous inside and out and, oh, what a treat for our visual, auditory and, now, lol, olfactory senses.

A little more on this song if it is the same one. This song is a post-grunge-rock song and commenters on other blogs are thinking it is more a Cook-style song. Hmmm….
Here are the lyrics and I am loving them BIG TiME:
You’re reachin’ out
And no one hears you cry
You’re freakin’ out again
Cause all your fears remind you
Another dream, has come undone
You feel so small and lost
Like you’re the only one
You wanna scream
Cause you’re desperate
You want somebody just anybody
To lay their hands on your soul tonight
You want a reason to keep believin’
That someday you’re gonna see the light
It’s 3a.m.
There’s no one left to call
And sleep’s your only friend
But even sleep can’t hide you
From all those tears
And all the pain
And all those years you wasted
Pushing them away
You’re goin´down
It’s time you face it
You want somebody just anybody
To lay their hands on your soul tonight
You want a reason to keep believin’
That someday you’re gonna see the light
Cause you’re desperate, desperate
Cause you’re desperate now
You think that things
Are gonna change
Then you’re back to feelin’ strange
What’s it take to make you feel alive
(desperate, desperate, desperate)
You want somebody just anybody
To lay their hands on your soul tonight
You want a reason to keep believin’
That someday you’re gonna see the light
You want somebody just anybody
To lay their hands on your soul tonight
You want a reason to keep believin’
That someday you’re gonna see the light
Cause you’re desperate oh-oh…
Cause you’re desperate tonight
Desperate, desperate, so desperate tonight
Tonight…
A commenter, davidlove, on mj’s blog pointed out that the verse “you want somebody just anybody to lay their hands on your soul tonight” and “you want a reason to keep believin’ that someday you’re gonna see the light” would appeal to David and fit him well.
Most commenters on other blogs are agreeing that David’s voice (the emotional/crying element) was made for this song. I can’t wait to hear it! May be the power ballad we are dreaming of!

Kizzi, those lyrics are real sweet. I also love that anecdote – “David gets all the girls ‘cuz he’s that irresistible combination of puppies, bunnies, newborns, and testosterone…”
Ain’t it the truth!
awestruck, I’m not trying to be a downer here, but I’m just preparing for the worst, and in such times, we’re going to need David’s voice to bring the sunshine, and his bright and lovely spirit to be a beacon of hope.
I remember saying this on many occassions. In fact, I once blogged about this because I had felt that the majority of AI voters who chose Cook over David were simply being cynical. I mean, the way things have turned out in David’s favor, I’ll always believe this was meant to be, or as SF likes to say, this was David’s destiny to not win AI all along (while forever changing the face of it all the same).
Still, I can’t help but think of something Vulture from New York magazine (who was being over-the-top, melodramatic, and satirical in his disappointment over David’s loss but there’s always a kernel of truth in the satire) once said: Cook won because people voted for him “ironically.”
In better days, irony and cynicism are cool, as is a Cook victory, but in dark days, we need the sunnier, purer, and hopeful presence that David represents. In dark times, trainwrecks like Britney Spears and the commercialized sellout messages from the “faux” streets that urban music like hip hop represents will no longer be desirable or entertaining. We’re going to want our music to raise our consciousness and our conscience once again.
I believe David is wonderfully poised to do this very thing. He’s off to a promising start!
Anyway, I’m off to a meeting so will check back later in the day.

My bent on the whole A1 thing is they were dismayed by Daughtry’s success so they allowed instruments hoping to find a rocker. Lo and behold along comes David who blows everyone out of the water. But a 17-year old won the year before and also had a great voice. They then began their machinations trying to bend things their way. Look how many rockers were in the top 25 and then 12. How many times was David not able to get his songs approved. Who really started the rumor about stage Dad? Why did Simon diss David on talk shows? David is better off without winning-he is free now. But hopefully A1 learned their lesson-let the people decide and stay out of the game because David is going to become a household name.
I know Cook and David are friends but his comment about making David as a male lead was off base. David is very capable of going after and getting a girl when he choses too. And the girl would melt if he gave her the Archugaze and she was aware of it.

Wow! I know I have not shared a single line these days, but I have been reading, laughing, linking, laughing more, and feeling the Archuleta connection.
Plus somebody combined brownies + ArchuFBI and premortal existence, and that just did it for me! lol
Why do I come here everyday? morning and night? why do I read every word written by a group of people I don’t even know? Why do I feel this connection?
It’s not that I need the company. I live a full life, but there is something about being a DA fan that escapes my words. Family and friends have asked me, and I just can´t give them an explanation that will satisfy them.
Let’s see: I like the sound of his voice…, oh! and I am fascinated by the impression he leaves on other people and their testimonies of how he has changed their lives. What! a 17 year old they don’t even know!! I am proud of what he has done so far and, last but not least, I feel I have family here. There! sounds logical enough?

#48 Happy: Haven’t Posted in a while but your comment had a profound effect. So TRUE! There is an old Talmudic saying that as a painter I am fond of, “If art is more than idea and technique but the life behind it, so the human is not only shown by the special work that he or she does, but by the scope of all his days, and his gift, it it is true, may show itself even in the manner in which he laces his shoes.” David, like Picasso, has a truly monumental gift and no matter what he does with it, his genius will be revealed.
If the critics don’t like the diversity shown in this first album I say, why should he, at 17, feel compelled to define himself? He is still experimenting and exploring his options. I have a hunch this CD is going to be very, very awesome!

“XM Radio: I was listening this morning to XM 20 on 20 and my BOI Priestly (who has a fantastically wonderful man crush on Archie, I just know it) told the audience that XM was wrong at some point when they said that David’s album would drop in December so as not to compete with David Cook’s album. He said that it will drop Nov. 11, and that Cook’s would drop Nov. 18. Now lean in close because I’m going to whisper this: **He said, “So they won’t have a head-to-head competition, but pretty close. I have a feeling David Archuleta is going to CRUSH David Cook.”** I tried to call Priestly, but couldn’t get through. So I’ll email him in a bit. ”

# Awestruck Here is the exact words form the reply I got from Teresa:
“I finally got through to your Wal-Mart—it’s considered West Calgary, right? Anyway, I talked to Jennifer the Dept. Mgr. and she said that David’s CD was going to be available in the store on 11/11. They are a 24-hour store, but Jennifer said more than likely the CD was not going to be available and out on the shelf until 7am in the morning. She also said, that as far as she knows, there was not going to be any limit at all.”
So I guess we don’t have to fight after all (wink!) Yes, I would love to meet and share some fangirl craze moments with you. I don’t have anyone in the family to share my sentiments for David either. But thank God my boyfriend kind of understands my passion for David and at least he tolerates my uncontrollable screams whenever something about David comes up. Hi Joner, I couldn’t agree more re: pigeonholing. Unfortunately it seems “the industry” (marketing
numbskullspeeps) has this persistent little appetite for pigeonholes. [linear linear linear... box box box] Major record labels had the same “challenge” with Eva Cassidy. They failed her and all of us miserably. (It was only thanks to a few persistent supporters that she took off in the UK posthumously. Gee thanks.) But the fact that Jive is behind what promises to be an eclectic mix for David’s debut says a LOT (in a GOOD way.)It remains to be seen if the critics remain trapped in their little boxes or if they’re expansive enough to recognize, and more important, publicly appreciate the Real Deal and not be undone and bewildered by David’s pigeonhole-resistant glory. Or maybe the more important question is will they be honest (and self-confident?) enough to shed their “too cool for school” skins long enough speak truth. (Gosh, am I sounding cynical? SHAME on me.) I hope my cynicism is unfounded and the critics call it like it really is and that they don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater, i.e., whining about absence of hole into which they can pigeon [lol] while overlooking the beaudacious brilliance that is David Archuleta. It is looking like there will be enough solid *pop* there to feed the pigeonholers, though. (Team David is veddy veddy clevah…)
Yay! HG FTW! (Rascal, she IS good, isn’t she.) I think we’ll be sitting back and watching David define the new cool (as the new rebel) –> One song –>one performance –> one interview –> one appearance at a time. I am already enjoying witnessing “the scales fall from their [critics, hatahs] eyes”. And I’m thinkin’ this trend will only increase kinetically after Nov. 11. (There, I’m back to my optimistic, simple-minded, happy self. Yay.)
lol.. highervibe I find *MegaTHUD* comes in mighty handy (but does it adequately reflect the damage to your floor?) :p ALTNOY is fer sher “da BOMB, baby!”

My take on the fellowship thing we all feel- I view us as sort of an “e-book club”, or rather an “e-songclub.” But instead of reading a book and meeting once a month to discuss it, we listen to a few songs and meet everyday!! Only its better because we don’t have to take turns hosting and cleaning our living room- we just meet daily at rascal’s house. Now of course the club stays interesting because every now and then (depending on the selected topic and who shows up) our club degrades into a Delta House toga party. We keep things in check so as to not get arrested. My attraction and affection for the group makes perfect sense to me- intelligent people, sharing a common obsession, sharing ideas and perceptions, and having loads of fun….makes my life richer…thanks rascal for the genuine hospitality.

I will be pleasantly surprised it I do find it there. The site is

Hi everyone!Newbie posting …but have enjoyed reading your blogs for months!About me…I’m a thirty-something,married with kids, nurse by profession, who is thought of by most to have very rational behavior.MEET MY “ALTER” ego…A 17 year old giddy fangirl who awakens early every morning for the sole purpose of voting, streaming, texting, commenting, buying, requesting…visiting my space, facebook, alloy, lurking chatrooms, itunes, youtube, and generally surfing the web for anything David! It’s not creepy though..(ahem)….I’ve crossed no lines..(hoping Jive waits until Dec.28 for further photo leaks).Merely supporting a new artist, with strong morals, who will rightly bring some benevolence into a tainted musical world! His core fans will see his ecclectic musical choices as being a chameleon in the industry. The skeptics will probably condemn him for his lack of identity. My rational side doesn’t “get” why some people don’t “get” him…My “alter” doesn’t care!! #136 HG:
Have to agree with rascal #146. Very insightful writing. Even lyrical.
In the dark days that are dawning for us as a nation, David’s beautiful voice can, will and should be a beacon of light for so many wandering souls. This present time harkens back to the thirties when, after the wretched excesses of the twenties came the dreary but truer times of the depression. We seem to be entering a similar period today. The cinema and music of the thirties seems, to me at least, to have been more real than at any other time in our recent past. The post war years were fat and flush, and the fuzzy, false “Ozzie and Harriet” culture was counterbalanced to a very limited extent by the emergence of film noir, a much grittier and “real” view of the world. The sixties was but a brief, glorious, frustrating and frustrated interlude in the rosy scenario view of “US uber alles.” Contributing to this unrealistic picture, our films have been saturated with gratuitous violence, fantasticalisms, and the false values of morbid sexuality, greed and excess, much like the twenties. Our popular music has likewise been so afflicted. Rap represents that sort of decadence, though rappers claim otherwise, but their own over-the-top lifestyles reflect their real values. Popular music today seems far, far too orchestrated, the better to hide the limited vocal talents of the ‘personalities’ who top the charts with tuneless banalities.
I look forward with great anticipation to purchase the WalMart edition of David’s new album. A couple of the tracks are of particular interest, if the following link is accurate:

“Desperate” has been mentioned already, but “You Can” is something I will be looking for on the new album. Anything “very David” has got to be good.

It doesn’t ring true. Something is amiss there. Hi guys!
I just wanted to say… that I will DIE if david doesn’t release this as a 2nd single. It’s full of WIN. I mean, it’s got r&b start, boy band chorus, and melisma-packed bridge (LOVE).
If this turns out to be THAT song- as in “the one they shoulda released but didn’t,” it would be a total shame.
I love the hands songs, but releasing either of them as a single would be a fatal mistake.
Also, he should release his 2nd single on the day his album drops- like T.I. and Ne-Yo did. Their two songs are still in the top 25, so it will only help “Crush” sales.
From what I’ve read and listened to- the order of his singles should be: Crsuh-ALTNOY-a ballad-Desperate
RONALD- i just want to tell you that i read your “artist” thread on IDF faithfully- It’s great! Never stop posting there ok? Your posts are the best- always insightful and note-worthy.

I’ve noticed there are a number of graphic designers amongst us (myself included), you may be interested in this interview with R4D about his computer-generated David artwork (it’s the Oct. 20 post, in case you go there later and something has been posted subsequently):
http://archuletafanscene.com/
A few familiar names are mentioned in the interview! (But how is it he doesn’t know about his appearance on our own dearly beloved reality show?!)
HG – and realmusiclover – spot on. The Voice of sunshine could not be arriving on our iPods–and in our consciousness–at a more perfect time. The wise man/child seems to have known he’d better get an early start on his career, and not wait for his 18th b’day, AI8, or some other (later) marker in time. Can you imagine what a pickle we’d be in if he was only beginning to audition now? I think we’ll be OK now, though–how could we not be, what with the inspiration dja brings to the planet? I believe in the collective creativity of humanity, and I trust the Archulator to ratchet it up a notch–or fifty.
davidfanLIZ – I really appreciated your PWF comment on earlier thread, that’s exactly my trepidation when I post comments such as the one that elicited yours. smanda, that is food for thought, and thank you for that insight. Well, hm… I don’t know if I knew the emo-singing, thigh-eyes-arms-swoon-inducing, love-bunny nugget in a past life, but he sure has cut a wide swath through this one, whether I’m awake or asleep, and I’m looking forward to hearing the **masses** start MEGA-thudding (thankyou, beebee, for the appropo amplification to the terminology!) when this CD releases.

“You came to the too best place where you can be part of a group of highly intelligent and sensitive ODD’ers, then you have juliebug aka Red, Joner..oh yeah and me.”
Your point? pfffbbbbttttt! haha!
I actually have a David story from the Saloon Salon.
I took my cd I burned with “Crush and the Three Snippets”…Little Red Riding Hood was still striped at the time though… to the Saloon Salon with me to have my stylist (why don’t they call them hairdressers anymore?) take a listen to see what she thought. She’s 25 and she’s never watched AI and I had tried to tell her about him the last time I went but she’d never heard of him…so I took “samples”…um….yeah.
They play a “muzak” CD over the speakers there so most of the gals don’t listen to much radio…not that it would have made a dif….because I’m in KC…and you don’t hear David (at least OUR David) on the radio here…much. Anyway, she put in my CD and all the gals still there (most customers were gone) were grooving to DA…
when…. Hark! what should we hear?….
but kind of a loud “OMG!” and one of the gals came running out of the back room where she was sanitizing some combs or some such salon type stuff. “That’s David Archuleta!” I’m like “…yeah…” kinda of timidly, ’cause I swear she was like a banshee or something. Scary!
Turns out she was a casual fan of AI and had just loved and voted for our David when it came to finale night…but again, she doesn’t listen to the radio much, and she’s a busy working mom and just doesn’t have time to go online….so she hasn’t kept up with him. And, again, since we are in KC she didn’t know he had a single out already or that his album was about to drop. But she heard him all the way in the back room, and said “I’d know that voice ANYWHERE!” She was listening to ALTNOY. HAHAHAHA! She’s totally pumped now and ready for that album like NOW!
The End
How’d I do Silver? Not as gloriously bodacious as your “Little Red Corvette” outing… but I’ve got some new probable purchasees. tee hee!

highervibe – thanks for the R4D link. It was fun to read about this artist, Rabid, that seems to be everywhere in Archuletaland. Also, you mentioned the Perceived Weirdness Factor. The PWF does apply, even among us devoted, fanatical fans. We all explain our personal connection to David in terms of our own experiences. I’m assuming that I’ve weirded out a few people with some of my comments. But hey, it’s really just the words that are different. The big view is that we are all connected in our love of David.

Just drop in to say, Hi good morning, to all the wonderful people at Rascal House.
I have been scaling down my ArchuActivities in the past two weeks because of the current global financial crisis. Fortunately I have been spared because in the past nine months while the market was “hot” I was very much involved with David Archuleta and practically disassociated myself from some activities. Some of my Singapore friends who are not ODDers are now reeling from the loss of their lifesavings.
I have been trying to be sensitive and not be seen as over-indulgent in my support for David. I spent the past weeks listening to their woes and sharing their pains. I was “packed” away to North Korea to be cut off from the computer world in September because friends thought I was “sick” in the way I spent my time on David; it did not cure my “sickness”. Now they themselves needed to be “packed” away to China to temporary get some relief and I am going away with them next week.
You don’t know how I missed all you people here in NotingDavid and I cannot resist myself, as usual, to put in my 2 cents worth of comments.
Like many of you, I feel that I have known David in my past life. I feel that in that life, he must be some public figure of great importance that we admired and loved. I believed that I left that “life” much earlier than him and that is why I am so much older than him in this life. I have this fear of not meeting him again in my next life because of this big gap in age for I would be “a cycle” ahead of him. Crazy, isn’t it! And I am now working very hard to be a good person to make sure I will be reborn in the human realm. Well, if I can’t make it to the human realm I don’t mind to be his pet dog or cat or even his fish.
ALTNOY makes me cry like when I listen to his SMM. That haunting, heart-tugging cry got me so emotionally charged. I love it and hope it will be his 2nd single like many of you also. I have pre-ordered the Album from Amazon. They would not allow me to purchase more than 3 copies and had advised that I would receive it in Singapore only in mid December or later. Dang it, I would die! I am planning to go down to HMV to check and cue on the day it is available at the store.
Sorry for the rambling, thanks, I love you all!

juliebug, proselytizing for the Archulator, are we? Good on you!
Diana, thanks for sharing your story. There’s a reason why we all *need* David’s voice now.
realmusiclover, loving your take on the whole pop music scene and David’s potential to take us back to a moment of redemption. Don’t even get me started on the state of CORPORATIZED MUSIC that has assaulted us, starting in the late 90s, the same moment when hip-hop died a horrific death, as did the singer/songwriter, who got replaced with the Britney Spears, Beyonces, and Pussycat Dolls. There’s a reason why, not only did music stop becoming *real* music but why the music industry sales also started suffering. They can blame the Internet all they want; but I blame the lousy product myself.
Add to corporatized music the American Idol domination in the industry (and, I’m sorry, I know that David came from that show, but I am not going to pretend that they have not also contributed to the banality of pop music and the *pigeonholing* that resulted).
What AI does is showcase the wealth of talent that’s out there; but once an idol or any other contestant tries to pursue a legitimate career, they are immediately turned into commodities – produce platinum sales or the music industry completely dismisses you if you don’t (how can anyone grow artistically with that kind of industry attitude?). Ugh! Talk about complete failure of the imagination in knowing how to work with such talent once they are launched from a hit TV show.
Keeping my fingers crossed that Jive effectively severs David’s ties with AI once and for all. More and more proving that David losing the title works to his advantage (for example, look at Cook’s anxiety – and, no, SF, we don’t have to like him just because David does).

Sorry I haven’t been here all day. Just want to say I LOVE everyone’s stories about Archuconversions and beauty salons! Also, all the insights about what’s needed in this day and age and in the music industry.
Oh, and thanks HG for including the Artist thread from IDF! Some comments on that thread were so great. And I’m glad to see that people read my own comments – my sense tells me that a lot more people lurk there than post there, but it’s great to hear feedback of any kind.
Going way back to the topic of how the media will respond to Archie’s album: it will be interesting to see what they say. They may not affect sales too much, and it’s what WE get out of David’s music that is what really matters, but for some demographics (including the Academy, ahem) what the musical intelligentsia says does matter. David’s talent is so immense that their “aha!” moment HAS to happen eventually. Hopefully the following will come to pass sooner rather than later:
And after the madness, when gone are the throngs,
The media’s singing a new kind of song,
Praising his artistry (we’ve known along),
Never admitting they said anything wrong.

Focus has definitely been narcissistic in both the financial and music industry and egoists have been highly rewarded. My own simplistic word has been “mean.” There has been a culture of meanness. The hope I see is that the crisis is global and we are all in this together, that what one country does affects the world and so we have to work together for balance. I am thinking we are not heading for another Great Depression like the 1929 Stock Market crash and the subsequent economic depression of the 1930’s and even into the 1940’s. I am thinking from my research it is more like a Great Adjustment and that value and growth in the financial world is being corrected. I also think that David is the antithesis of mean and his genuineness and authenticity emanates from him like a star burst–if your not used to such brightness, you have to cover your eyes, look away or get some good sunglasses so you can acclimate.
#175 realmusiclover – I am a huge fan of the music & movies generated in the 30’s and 40’s. I really enjoyed your review. I see a great deal of connectedness with David and his music and the music and movies of those decades.

#196 ronaldsf – you should copyright this
“And after the madness, when gone are the throngs,
The media’s singing a new kind of song,
Praising his artistry (we’ve known along),
Never admitting they said anything wrong.”

Happy, I too enjoy the e-club and our freedom to enjoy our ODD. Rascal I hope things are going well with the writing and thank you for letting us play at your house.
Trezoc, welcome aboard. Our “alter ego’s” join yours.
Realmusiclover, I echo your sentiments. We have so much to learn from history. I live in big rap country and I am afraid it is going to kill the musicality in these young ones. Going to a book club meeting about Fahrenheit 451 this week. Ray Bradbury is right on. Lack of ability and wish to read will bring it on. It has hurt the music industry also.
Juliebug-love the salon story. I am waiting to hear his songs in a store. It will come. Ronaldsf, you have said it best.
Kizzi, I like your term the Great Adjustment. A musical telling the story of Enron was presented at the university last year to sold out crowds. Why did these other companies think they could do it too and not get caught? Let us bring on the Great Adjustment and have administration and government become servants again instead of parasites.

Jackryan, thanks for some new links!
Kizzi, your whole new perspective of the oncoming GREAT ADJUSTMENT (with David leading at the helm) is so spot on! I’m going to have to give this more thought. That’s what’s so cool about Archangels – many of us are so optimistic and full of hope! Guess a certain person’s influence is rubbing off?

olemr2001 #198, That is one talented family! I suggested on IDF that Daniel be a surprise guest appearance on David’s future solo tour and they could duet together, and they wanted to start a petition haha.

This Seattle interview is great! David sounds very fluid, funny, and relaxed. And he even remembers names of fans they are mentioning.

Hm, slow news day. Maybe this one’s a little not too PWF (written in early May, but tweaked since). I actually sent it to David, but who knows if he got it or read it.
The Alchemist
This is the time of our lives
a time of joy and innocence
This is the time of return
with the kiss of life on your lips
All the rage and confusion
that battles outside my door
falls in silence to hear your song
And I find myself wanting more
Chorus
For the magic that you hold
like an alchemist, turns the leaden world to gold
And my simple boat into a crystal ship
that sails across the night
to a new day.
I lift my senses to touch you
and where your vision stretches,
you bring new sight
like the first light of day
You pour your fire like water
over the thirsty plains
and deep inside my soul
An ancient love unwinds
Chorus
For the magic that you hold
like an alchemist, turns the leaden world to gold
And my simple boat into a crystal ship
that sails across the night
to a new day.
Everything becomes alive
when your breeze breathes life into it
All the parched twigs green
and grow to their full height
In your life I see it all unfold
like a drop of elixer in water
That ripples to infinity
inspiring
rewiring
energizing all.
Chorus
For the magic that you hold
like an alchemist, turns the leaden world to gold
And my simple boat into a crystal ship
that sails across the night
to a new day,
a new day….
You are a new day.

David, you are the alchemist of our souls.
Thank you!

NEWSFLASH!
Below is a copy of a email form my local radio station, Pro-FM from Providence. I sent him a letter thanking him for being nice to David and asking better questions than most. I am waiting for a call back to know if its in studio or phone interview.
Kara
Thanks for the very nice email. I want to let you know that David will be here next week. Wednesday 10-29. We are trying to get the time confirmed. So far, some time after noon. I once again will speak to him Live on the radio. Please alert the fan sites as to his appearance to at the station. We are going to attempt to video webstream it LIVE! If not, we will air just the audio. You and the fan sites are so important in getting the word out on David’s success and talents. So, If you could post this message on the site for them to listen that would be great. We will be taking questions from the FANS via http://www.92profm.com very soon. This time around, the questions I ask will all come from, you the fans! Thanks for listening to 92 PRO-FM!

#197 Kizzi, I appreciate your offer to send me the CD. I have just ascertained that David’s Album will be released on 17 November to HMV and other stores in Singapore, so I will get my copies from any one of these stores. Can’t wait for 17/11 to come, I am behaving like a lovesick 17 year old over ALTNOY and I can’t get enough of it!

#205 highervibe – I am in AWE! Beautiful, stunning, poignant, and soulful. The Alchemist. I have printed it out and put in my meeting notebook that I carry daily–so I can read it when the meetings I am in turn dour. I think I am going to have my friend write this out in calligraphy and I’ll paint what is forming in my head as I read and reread your poem. THANK YOU!
#204 Freo – That Seattle interview is endearing, fun, funny, warm, fuzzy, and pure sunshine, bunnies, newborns, mown grass, ice cream cones, clouds….. David sounds SOOOOOO happy—the interviewers were so genuine in their ArchuLove–the female DJ said she wanted to put David in her pocket–LOL. Did you hear the part about they “have a ton of top artists in for interviews and everybody freaks out for everybody but every now and then, you bring somebody on who accoss the board people go nuts for.” Also, the part where TMH was written by people who used words that David used when he was recording another song.
#206 – ronaldsf – That would be cool if they both were Entertainer of the Year but it seems to start the competition all over again from my perspective if it is one or another. I read the comments and some weren’t pretty.

Kizzi #211: I know everyone has moved to the new thread (and new excitement!) but yes…”I didn’t know you could get chills on the top of your head” You are so right.
This could probably the oh, 55th version of Angels we’ve heard him sing, but each and every time feels like the first.
