Nobody sings the beautiful national anthem like our David. I am praying for this nation today . . and praying for our new president. I hope he can perform miracles . . we need them. May God bless America and the whole world!

Awwww! I left work in plenty of time to see our new President’s speech and ended up having to have my battery in my car jumped and by the time I got home for lunch I heard the last minute of his speech. Boooo car battery!

I DVR’d it though, so I’ll have to watch it later tonight when I get home.

Congratulations US pax! Am not an American but I teared up just the same while watching Pres Obama’s swearing in. The look of joy and hope in the audience was so palpable during this historic occasion. Am reminded of a time in my country when our 1st female president was sworn in So I can fully relate!

David must feel so proud to be a part of the big celebration. He sure has gotten the opportunity to experience alot of fantastic things at only 18 years old! Wow!

I wonder what he will wear to the ball . . can’t wait to see that.

Good afternoon everyone. As Pres. Obama spoke of unity and hope, I could hear David singing “a brotherhood of man” in the background. I hope he and his father were somewhere in the crowd. Better yet, I believe David has it in him to write the “Imagine” for his generation.

Brooklyndawn, my late dad was also a political junkie and would have been overjoyed. I’m glad you got to watch with your mom.

I am crossing my fingers that David meets one of his biggest idols, John Mayer. I think we all know how he must be feeling. We, who went to the AI tour, or the Jingles, or any other appearance know how it feels to be giddy with excitement knowing we would be seeing
OUR idol, David THE VOICE, with dreams that maybe, just maybe we would meet David too! David said he could barely speak when he met Mraz…uh-huh..that sounds very familiar to many of us! He just doesn’t believe he affects his fans the same way.

Hey guys, David here. Well I have been really busy with the Sundance Film Festival. It was really hot there at the venue and I was sweating like a pig. haha. Not as hot as Daniel though, who got stuck in the elevator but he’s OK. haha. It was so great to have him accompany me for the first time and I think he did great. Don’t you? Anyway, I got to go to the Latino Ball and then to the Recording Industry Ball too. Hijoles! It was way cool to hang out and meet so many great folks. I got to meet John Mayer!! Oh my gosh, I was soooo nervous! Oh yeah, I got to meet the President too. But John Mayer is so fantastic and super nice! It was such a thrill! I didn’t want to bother him, but he was really great. Did I say President Obama was great too? He was too, but John Meyer was AMAZING!! haha.

David, honey-bunny! You are THE VOICE! At 18 yo, you are up there with Marc..and he’s been at it for years!

OK. I just read David’s real blog again. Did he actually say

I am thrilled for David that he was a part of the inauguration. What an honor that is for him. I watched the swearing in and Obama’s speech today with a roomful of 2nd graders at my school. This is a day they will always remember! I was filled with pride at this new beginning for our beautiful country.

Several months ago, there was a discussion about how David was like another Sinatra, who was known as “the voice”, so I started referring to David as THE VOICE. It has caught on more & more here at ND. So
if everyone agrees, I think WE here at ND should do all
we can to make David known as THE VOICE, so much so that the MEDIA will catch on, and soon David will be introduced as David Archuleta, THE VOICE, instead of , the AI runner-up, or Archie, or Former AI…
So when you post at other sites, and mention David, don’t just say David, say.. David THE VOICE! Soon all the other sites will start referring to David as THE VOICE ..Let’s start our ND Champaign to let the world know David is THE VOICE who can sing the phone book and everything else like no other! If you agree..then let’s do this for David!

And, no I have not been drinking!!

I just wanted to elaborate a bit more about meeting some fellow ODDer’s last night. I’ve been reflecting about it spontaneously all day – like when you’ve seen a great movie!

And thanks to you, Kizzi, for arranging it! So ironic that the “part-time” New Yorker puts it together for us all!

I was so excited to meet other soul-stirred David fans in-the-flesh. I was rewarded with a rich evening of shared joy and stories and David love.

I don’t know anyone personally, (at least not until last night) who has been as touched by David as I have. I know it’s been expressed on here many times…how some of us feel alone in our ODD in our worlds and are grateful for nD as a place to share. But there is something different about meeting in person. Something surreal. I did know there are many of “us” out there, but it all comes rushing home in person.

It’s almost like what I image finding a long lost twin must be like. So many common feelings and behaviors! Even some common birthdays and names flying around last night – freaky! And I mean that in the best way!

Thanks again girls: Happy, Ninaf, Orchid, River and Kizzi for a great evening.

Looking forward to the next gathering!

If I was to blaspheme, I’d say the only thing David has to do is wait until his voice settles down from the changing, and work on consistency. (Ach! Did I say that?).

He has the most gorgeous tones, and his power notes are tear-inducing. Some days he doesn’t have quite as much control over it as others. But it’s always beautiful.

It works best when he is most relaxed and lets himself have a good time (or when he’s singing the National Anthem, which is always the most fabulous of anyone I’ve ever heard…ever. LOL!)

Marlie – No, not blaspheme, but I honestly don’t think we all would have the patience to wait for his voice to change. I believe that Dean (his voice coach) said the male voice does not stop changing until they are 35 years old.

I think we’d all be jumping off the ledge if David was out of commission for that long!

He will have to change his key as time moves on to accommodate his voice, but he’ll know exactly what he needs to do and when. He’s been doing this all along.

really fun last night… OMG, what will the fanvention be like?

I realized after I left that I did not thank you all as I would have liked to. It is refreshing to share laughs and ideas with wonderful woman. I find that I am so busy it is difficult to develop fellowship outside of my “ordinary” circle of people. My ordinary circle of people are amazing, but…I am used to them. And it is fun to broaden horizons! One thing that I have internalized in a most painful way, is that life is short, fragile, and precious. A life that you thought was so full and permanent can be gone in an instant… it is so cliché but- we only have today. In the past it would have been very unlike me to meet a bunch of strangers from the internet for dinner (and now I’ve done it three times!) But as Kizzi said, crazy as it may be, I feel like I have developed a level of trust here at nD. It seems many of us feel the same way. It was equally as fun to meet lurkers as it was to meet regular commenters…. When you talk for 10 minutes you find that we ALL think alike whether we comment or not, LOL! I want to thank you all…all of you, from the most regular commenter to the most intermittent lurker for enriching my life…and you rascal for providing the forum….ODD at notingDavid FTW!

Not sure if this will post (having “issues” … forced into involuntary lurkdom today, eek)… HG, I just saw David on ET too! Boy, I miss that face on my TV… and the two thumbs up? Priceless…

OMG! I just saw the Youth Inaugural Ball is the official event for “youth” ages 18-35.

When did the youth age increase to 35??!!!! Who knew I was still considered a “youth”? Heh.

I’m loving how the MTV/Rock-the-Vote folks who’re hosting this gig are already “over 30″ and are refusing to give up on their “youth” identity. ha ha!

I’m getting a kick that, years from now, they’ll still be hosting a Youth Ball for all “youths” ages 18-50!

No wonder David is hanging out with the “real” youth at Club Ibiza…

What was the coverage of David on ET? Anything new, or of his NA performance?

Love your phrase “soul-stirred David fans.” So glad to hear a group of NY NDers had a fabulous time together. I have been thrilled to meet some NDers at the Sacramento Jingle and elsewhere (SF in Lexington!). The bond we share is real. David has marked us, he has changed us and meeting each other is an affirming and nurturing experience.

Sweetie!!! I once got booted off three times in a row trying to post and I had the same feeling. Noooooo!!! Turns out that my messages were going into the ND spam filter for no reason whatsoever. It all turned out okay.

Aw, Obama and his wife are dancing right now, first couples’ dance. They look so elegant and her dress is beautiful!

I agree totally that it would have been so great if Lupe had been there with David at the Latino Gala. And as far as fashion..she always looks great, and I think she’d make sure David looks perfect for these important events. But maybe they need new stylist..Like whoever dressed him for the AOL sessions or Sacramento Jam.

Joner #46 Yeah, I hear ya. I didn’t mean “wait” wait, like not sing (God, what would the world be like?) I just meant he should not worry about it being like Marc Anthony – he will be even more than that as his voice settles, and at a much younger age. (I know they don’t finish changing until 35, but from 12 to 20 it is a huge change).

The only thing Marc has on David (no tomatoes!) is consistency and I think that comes from confidence and experience with what his own voice can do. David’s power notes are awesome (every song in Tulsa!), it’s when he sings softly (like in a radio station accompanying himself on piano) that he has a little stretch singing the higher notes.

HG #83 I think Michelle picked her gown because it was designed by a 26-year-old Asian designer just getting started in NYC. I suspect it’s part of the Obama family focus on diversity and their “new school” approach to everything. And it probably didn’t cost a gazillion dollars (same with their kids dressing in J. Crew).

Maybe he was…but the ball he’s going to is just so much more David. It’s the ball hosted by the Recording Industry Association of America and it’s a CHARITY ball.

Who knows, he might have been invited to both. I think it’s great that he’s participating in such a memorable evening, in whatever way.

juliebug#94 – your’re right, it is more him. Just wished the President could have heard the VOICE sing Imagine. I know he would be touched. I know his daughters liked him.

Ever since I heard him sing Imagine at the Holiday of Hope Tree Lighting. It totally floored me – esp. “…….you may say I’m a dreamer……” I swear he tears up everytime he sings that line. I’m always a total mess, too. My family thought I was real goner during the holidays. Could not even begin to explain why.

Okay, gonna chime in on the dress. I thought it was quite elegant, so a thumbs up on it. The outfit this morning, the color was devine, the style, not so much. I hope she doesn’t have to live up to the whole style thing though.

Marc Anthony is an amazing singer. I see why David would say what he said. I love hearing him sing, and I always wondered why he isn’t quite as famous in the states, he sings circles around almost anyone else, besides our David of course.

Ebonyangel, and Valbraz, today was an incredible day, full of hope and remembrance of things past. Thanks for sharing recollections of your Dads, they would have enjoyed this day. Valbraz, you are indeed a sistah!

GAH! Finally am able to log on and actually post! Such a hectic day. I was running late earlier so my 2 posts earlier were hurried & harried. One thing uncool with being away from the office is the things you have to face when you get back, right?

RE ND GET TOGETHER — Am jealous! And am not, never in fact, been the jealous type. Not only am I missing out on the experience of a lifetime of seeing David perform live but that I have to just sigh & whimper at not being able to enjoy the company of the wonderful ND members, for now.

You see, the LifeStory mag was out of stock already when my friend in CA checked… so I was content with having just Square….Now this It is one great surprise…am perfectly giddy!

ON THE 1ST LADY’S OUTFITS – Can’t weigh in that much cos am your basic tees, jeans & sneakers kinda gal. My daughter in fact says am useless when it comes to fashion or anything girly-glamy haha…

But definitely, Michelle’s fashion sense is NOT boring, but still practical, no-nonsense. (Arms & shoulders are to die for!) Her threads have that air of accessibility which I think is so right for the times. Love, love the outfits of her daughters, though!

Well, I don’t see Michelle sharing Laura Bush’s fate because, as you reminded us, while the former First Lady had no style, our present First Lady clearly does!

Now, fashion style debates don’t bother me. What bothers me is when there is refusal to deal with the sharp wit and intelligence that women like Michelle clearly possess. That’s when the media buzz over women’s fashions get tiresome because there’s more to talk about besides what an intelligent woman is wearing.

I also agree that not having David Archuleta sing at any of these events (apart from the Latino gala ball) is a travesty. Let’s hope he will have a greater impact four years later, as you put it.

Just a note on the NYC “ND’s” dinner – I think I’m the last to comment on what an incredible and almost surreal experience it was to meet, these incredible women, who felt like old friends from the start. (Of course I’ve already met Kizzi & Happy) What was amazing to me was the lack of any awkward moments, as one would typically have meeting someone new. I felt like we never skipped a beat, it was just a continuation and extension of our ND conversations. With that being said, thank you Happy, Orchid, Rapture, River and a special thanks to Kizzi for organizing such a beautiful evening. I can’t wait to do it again!!

Oh and SF – even though you weren’t there, you were there in spirit. It was great talking to you on the phone and I have to meet you sometime, even if it’s not planned around a David event, (although, I would love it to be).

so my gma lives literally 4 houses away from dean kalin (and im not even exagurating) and they are really good friends with him. so my mom went over to his house to record somthing and she asked him about david, and dean said that over christmas somehow everyone knew that david was gonna be coming home on the 20th and so people went to his house waiting for him to come home and then wouldnt leave him alone. so the archuletas had to rent a house in vegas and spend christmas there. i feel soooo bad. i cant beleive fans would be crazy enought to invade his personal space. i mean serously.

FREO on #120 – That is so sad… for the family to flee its home to find some peace during the holidays. Don’t they see how much David gives of himself already during performances, meets&greets, autograph signing, etc? Don’t they realize that the guy needs a break? The family needs some quiet time? I feel bad about this.

What a shame about his Christmas at home being ruined by fans. I know he would have liked to sleep in his own bed for a change instead of the constant hotel rooms. Things will never be the same for David and family. He’s paying a price and so are they. The rude papparazzi are one thing, but for fans to act that way is just disrespectful and no way to show the love.

In case I can’t log on from home…I just have to say one thing..we all have been at a loss to explain why we feel the way we do..why we feel a kinship, why, when we meet each other we are so comfortable with each other like we already know each other…why we all love David the way we do.
Why? well, why is it so hard to believe we all may have known each other AND David in a previous life? Or maybe, we didn’t KNOW each other, but we all Loved David in a previous life..
Look, I know it sounds really crazy, and most of us don’t or at I didn’t use to, believe in “such nonsence” but more and more I’m starting to believe in the possibility….I mean the kid is 18..has a glorius voice, sure..and looks great..but I’m a grown woman, and so are all of you ( and men too ). I’m too old to be so OTT over a teenage sensation…who makes me feel like a teenager myself. And BTW, my kids know how I feel about David..and they are very ok with it cuz they see I’m happier than I’ve been in years. My sister & I share our ODD..but I’m a little worse..although she had a severe bout of ODD for a while..She’s calmed down somewhat..I think though, that she will seriously consider committing me when she reads this post..
But until someone comes up with a better explanation for all the WHYS? this is my answer for myself..and it’s strangely comforting to me.

And it’s ok if all you beautiful women who have said in the past that you would like to meet me, are changing your mind now…but really, I’m just trying to find answers too, so judge me to harshly, ok?

MOM #127 – ODD can be frustrating at times can’t it, especially when something exciting happens for David and it’s all you can think about and all you want to talk about. I know.

I’m fortunate to have friends that let me babble on and on about him, but it’s not the same as talking with people that feel the same way we do.

I’m slowly “converting” friends so as to widen my circle of “confidants” LOL but in the meantime, it’s nice to come here and share the love of this talented young man.

In the process, I feel like I’ve made some amazing acquaintances and now have an extended family with all the crazy, quirky personalities of a real one.

We challenge one another, we tease one another, we surprise one another, at times we irritate one another then forgive one another and we support one another. We laugh, we cry, we shake our heads at one another, we worry, we hope, we pray, and we bake brownies.

Seeing as we all seem like old friends due to our love of David…….Anyone willing to set up a Ventrillo or Skype server ? Voice chat FTW. Cost is minimal and can be shared by all. My daughters know I am crazy about David and his music but not the extent of my ODD. There is really no one around that I can talk to about it. My husband really isn’t interested.

Sorry, I’m butting in after not following every comment today. Caught just a few about the mall performance in NO. Isn’t that one for a radio station? He’s still having to work at getting airplay, I think. Schmoozing with the stations. Too bad that’s necessary, if that’s what’s happening, but radio deejays aren’t known for being forward thinkers.

How do you try to explain something that for a year has taken over a big part of your life? What is it that keeps me focused on David at ODD moments throughout the day? My thoughts are never very far from him. I have asked myself what ODD is, and like so many others, have come up with no definite answer. The people in my life like him and appreciate his voice, but don’t experience what I do when they hear it. The only answer I can come up with is that, when I heard The Voice, something inside me that was asleep, awakened. Something that has been asleep for a long time sat up, and opened its’ eyes and ears and KNEW that voice! And still, everytime I hear it, I go all euphoric and it’s just a deep, deep bliss. No one has touched me like that, on that level. He fascinates me, this awaker of my soul. My fascination has led me to discover that this Voice is driven by a young man of such virtue and virtuosity, such passion and intensity! The way he talks about his love of music; the way he pours himself out in his song till there’s nothing left, except him standing, spent and exhausted on the stage. The way his eyes glow at that moment and his smile lights up the whole room. This much I know… something sacred in me loves him so very much. Something profane in me loves him too. Not gonna lie. If you go to the B97 FM website, they state that David and Jesse will perform together on Sunday, Feb 15. Details are forthcoming. While not as talented, Jesse is much more well known than David. I think this gig will be lots of fun for them and the audience.

Angelica #184 – Beautiful post. “…when I heard The Voice, something inside me that was asleep, awakened.” Yes.

My first fumbling image to describe the experience of hearing his voice was something like a funnel of energy coming at me. Something pure and strong and true inside of me connected with that Voice.

Perhaps as the lovely SF has said, we knew each other in a past life. For me, it is more that I am remembering what I am. I am connecting with my true self. Yes Angelica, for me too, this feels like an awakening.

When I met David, I said that what I appreciated about his music was that he goes to the deepest meaning of music, and connects hearts and souls. That this transcendent soul is housed in a person of such beauty and compassion, well, it’s all just too much. I discovered David last May, and literally, there has not been one day since then that I have not listened to his voice.

See – this is why our family and friends don’t “get” us. This is waaaaay too weird to share with the “unconverted” haha!

smanda – Yes, let’s meet David again together. I must admit that I agonized over what I would say. And I practiced it haha!!! And still had trouble getting it out!!!

Liz- I was so afraid that I wouldn’t actually get to see him when I so much wanted to that I didn’t want to jinx it by being overly prepared. (writing this makes me laugh!) My kids were there, and also my best friend who is a Cookie and thinks I am slightly certifiable. When I arrived at the buses in SLC, I suddenly realized that I am an “old girl” and when David looked at me he was NOT going to see my radiant soul, the soul that loves him so much, he was just going to see my old body. I was such a mess, I didn’t even have anything reasonable for him to sign! All I could do was ask to shake his hand and as soon as he did, I blurted out, “Love you!” and for just a moment there, he looked at me and I think he DID see the soul that loves him so much. It was incredible.

Haha – I have the feeling that I am going to be a little old lady in her rocking chair, telling all the nurses this story!

Rae #80 Your post, about whether or not we all have something in common is so intriguing to me because I’m very analytical too and try to figure out a mystery until it’s a mystery no more. All I know is that when you hear David’s voice, it changes you forever. I believe there are angels among us and David is a perfect example of one. He has given us so much enjoyment but most of all he’s given us a feeling of peace. There’s something about the sound of his voice, and I believe I even feel it when he speaks, that creates a peaceful glow. For me, his voice alone, and the euphoria it brings is enough for me to stay a fan of his. But there’s so much more. There’s his integrity that is rare in someone his age; there’s the way he talks about his family and friends; there’s his infectious smile, his facial expressions and his intelligence; the way he smiles when he finishes singing, his good-naturedness and the uncomparable angelic glow in his eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!! ****Sigh****

Back to the Sundance performances for a bit..You can really tell how good-natured David is when, during a song, fans desperately offer their hands for David to touch and he so willingly and without hesitation touches their hands in the middle of a song, over and over again. Not only is he good-natured but the doesn’t miss a trick.

I haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting David in person but I’m certain that I’ll have a very hard time talking to him. I was a mess the other night because my daughter said she’d be home at 9:00 and it was 11:00 and she still wasn’t home. I knew she had to take three friends home so she had three stops to make but still it angered me because it was a school night. I had to calm down. I flipped on my ITunes, heard David sing ‘”Barriers”, “My Hands” ands “Somebody Out There” and by the time my daughter walked in the door, instead of giving her the riot act again, I hugged her, so glad she was home and safe. That’s one venture I believe dear sweet David should have passed on. If his peeps didn’t even try to get him on the Kids Inauguration Ball roster (where he could have been serenading two of his most important voters from last season – Sasha and Malia – alongside Miley and the Jonas Brothers), then they most certainly could have skipped the Build-a-Bear thingy too. JMHO.

However, I totally agree with what Brooklyndawn said: “Many in the industry see idol as a short cut, and are envious of it. So in order for David to have the credibility he wants and deserves he must earn it, and having a gorgeous voice is just not enough.”

This! This is why I believe TPTB changed their enthusiasm from supporting David initially to backing Cook. I believe last season the franchise showed their hand – they were clearly looking for “street cred” so promoting a more mature, entertaining and talented “bartender” who’s “paid his dues” traveling the grunge bar circuit helped them look like the show has “grown up” past their cheesy image of “cutesy pop stars” (isn’t that one article said?). Having David as the AI Winner would not have given them “street cred.”

Ignorance, if you ask me. Because don’t tell me, had David been crowned American Idol Season 7, that 19E wouldn’t have had David Archuleta up front and center at everything and everywhere important in Washington. Like performing at the Kids Inauguration Ball, at the Youth Inauguration Ball. Trust me when I tell you: if David were the American Idol winner (and not runner-up) he would have been singing at a major ball where the President and First Lady were in attendance (i.e. Jordin Sparks singing at the Commander-in-Chief Ball).

What did they have Cookie do during this hugely important event? (Someone wanted to know upthread.) He was singing overseas for the troops. I see for all their support for Cook as their winner, they’re still relegating him to “paying his dues.” Don’t get me wrong. Singing for the troops is a high honor. But during the major Inauguration Balls going on in D.C.?!

Still playing up Cook’s “street cred” I see. If David were the winner and not runner-up, do you really think they would have had him doing something similar during the Presidential Inauguration activities? I think not!

HG…all makes wake-up sense to me…Those are the real reasons why things happen…never for a moment do I believe that AI relinquishes the final decision of the winner to the fans…I said before that is why they made such a great fuss over DA the night before the final show…They know who is great and don’t want to appear like they are stupid on the subject…David has been paying his dues for as long as he has been singing and taking himself places such as to the fire stations following 9/11…What he has done before stardom is his early payments on his later dues…his caring and giving cancels out all of his dues that really are a croc of whatever you want to call it…we will call it beans…

David’s dues were paid at each of the 53 concerts this past summer when he gave hope to many discouraged, showed how one can genuinely care and on and on…he has many followers who are waiting for the powers that be to treat him as he treats everyone…and they need to pay their dues and pay up pretty fast…and put him in the front row of singers where everyone can continue to see and hear him…Ah, it is the long and winding road all right…When you are in school and you are amazingly bright they let you skip grades as far as your intelligence takes you…the same should be for anyone with amazing talent and abilities…

The extreme reactions to both that bed shot (“too risque/grown-up”) and the Build-A-Bear song (“too childish”) indicate the expectations building for our David even from us, his most ardent fans.

It’s no surprise reactions are strong, given that we all want only the best for him. But maybe presuming we know what that is puts even more pressure on him. Dunno if that makes any sense.

My issue with that pic is just that it was hacked from a private photobucket and posted with no one’s permission. All kinds of wrong.

Me thinks that David’s fan community is going a little overboard with deciding what is right and proper for David, what is too young or too old, how he should be presented, what should or should not be available for viewing on the internet, etc.

David is not a Saint, he is not the second coming, he is not the moral center, he is not the perfect representation of American youth, he is not an idol to be worshiped and adored.

David is an 18 year old young man who has chosen a very difficult and visible career path. He, and his parents, have chosen individuals and organizations to help promote him to the public and get him name and face recognition. Somethings work out well, others fall flat. His choices will never be perfect, there will always be pitfalls and stumbling blocks. His choices may not be his fan’s choices but we should support and respect those choices. Every picture David poses for, every situation he places himself in, every song he sings are choices, some good some bad.

We need to accept all of the good and all of the bad that flows in cyberspace. It is there for anyone to find or access. Uncomfortable pictures or statements flow freely and that is part of being a public figure.

I have a real hangup with all of the pictures and videos where Jeff Archuleta is a prominent fixture in the background but I have to come to terms that his being there is David’s choice. Would I not post a link because this makes me uncomfortable? I hope not!

#233 Angelica: My vote is to keep your picture link there. It is a good looking, fun and clean picture. IMHO if it is removed, it would fuel people’s curiosity and suspicion as to how the picture was “inappropriate”. The effect could be far more negative.

#234 Tess: 100% in agreement with you. Give David room. Redirect him if it were something totally utterly undoubtedly wrong. I do not think we have seen that yet. (But I do agree with Smanda re: permissions)

I was reading David’s Life Story with my 10 year old daughter last night. She said, David got all As in schools, right? I was like, yea, until AI, and he got one B. And she said, “That’s still very good.”

And then, we flipped to the page where he was holding a stuff animal dog, and she went, “oh, this is so cute. I could rip the page off.” It was the first time I heard her talking like that. And then she said, but my favorite picture was the flowers one. So we kept flipping, until we came to the one that David was smelling a bouquet, with eyes closed. Again, she went, “I wish I could rip this page off.”

I don’t know what I am trying to say here. I guess I was just happy that some David’s picture made my daughter happy. That moved me. I guess, sometimes, certain things may not work for some people, but may work for others, so it is still all good.

Happy #50, I know it’s a ways back…but, you gave me goosebumps when I read it! There’s just something totally awesome about this ND group! Those that are “out” all the time, and those that “lay-low”! There have been many hours of great times! I have now completed my first week of college!!! I’m so super glad that I decided to do this. I honestly believe I could be a professional student! (yeah, I hear ya, it’s only my first week. Ha! Ha!) David has prompted many of us to do good things with our lives. He has my sincere gratitude. I will always and forever “have his back”!

It doesn’t matter to me if the photo link is taken down or kept up. I thought it was an innocent pose, and if anything, he looks awkward and a little goofy with a lopsided grin on his face. Whenever I see that photo, I always hone in on his shoes on that white comforter cover — it drives me crazy!

Thanks you guys for the feedback on the pic. Didn’t really want to bother Rascal anyway cause he must be really busy. It shall be dropped. Just as soon as I say, “shoes on sheets FTW!” I am an artist and like the time-honored juxtaposition of incongruent things together. Like shoes on sheets, David on a bed…the huh? factor that is intriquing and fun. OK, it’s dropped.

Still waiting to hear back from the Clearwater Mall. What a bummer if he won’t be there. Just when he was gonna be a whiff and a whisper up the road. Well, a four hour drive, but what’s that when it comes to David, I ask you?

I think all this commotion about the “bed” photo is so funny. Just like what Freo and Marlie said – I cannot even look at the photo because of the shoes on the white comforter. All I want to do is scream at him, like I would to my own kids, “Please get you shoes off the bed!” LOL

Tess~#234~ I agree … David’s choices are David’s choices…we have to respect that he is choosing what is right for David and the career path he has chosen.He is no pushover by any means. I do believe he knows what he has to do and what is right for him.Each decision is not necessarily going to be the one each and every one of his fans would make but those are not our decisions to make, they are HIS. With the wide age range his fanbase encompasses, not everyone is giong to agree with some of his choices .And this is OK..Everyone is entitled to their opinion which is why ND is such a joy to be part of…Many voices with many different views on David’s decisions..He is doing what works for him,big events or small, we have to remember he is 18 and we are not…sigh..He does seem to be having a blast doing what he loves..We all want what is best for David and that is what is most important. ninaf #249…many of David’s fans feel the same way. What I’ve noticed is that it depends on the venue as to how visible Jeff is..ie..NYE, very visable (on stage)Sundance, very visable (behind stage)..
Latino Inauguration, none..so much so that fans fretted about David being “alone”. On the other hand, I would have loved to see Lupe accompany David to that event.
I think now that David is 18, Jeff will try to stay out of camera range more..I hope so anyway, since Jeff is no longer traveling with David as his guardian, but as his Manager..

SF – I hope you are right! I just feel that David will have a harder time being taken seriously, as an adult performer, if his father is always around him.

Anyway, it really doesn’t matter what I think, or what anyone of us thinks for that matter. This is all up to David. It’s his life and career and he has to do what he thinks is best, even if it means having his father taking a more prominant role in his life than what the rest of us are comfortable with. I didn’t mean to say that Jeff should stop what he was doing in his support of David and his career. Nor that his knowledge of the music industry wasn’t an important part of the management of David. I do believe that Jeff’s influence on David in all areas of his musical career is necessary. And, their love and respect for one another is very obvious – for it’s an intergral part of David. I just wish Jeff would be more in the background of things when the media is around. It’s not Jeff, as much as the perception of Jeff in the public eye. For me, it doesn’t matter. I love David unconditionally..

Hi SF & mamasaun! let’s just say, David is a typical teenager and has his own ideas and has a huge part in his career, Jeff has been a guide for his career, but David is in control.

Ninaf, I agree with you. Jeff wanted a music career but his own father (David’s paternal grandfather) sat him down and talked him out of it, telling him that he could never raise a family and have that kind of (touring) life. I think it’s a human reaction that Jeff is living at least through some extent through his son.

And please don’t misunderstand what we are saying..There has never been any doubt that David has a very loving relationship with his dad & the rest of his family..The sacrifices they all have made have been enormous and not many families would have been able to do it. That has never been in question.
I have never met Jeff but everyone who has, has only good things to say about him. Most likely, even if Jeff was not his manager, David would still want him to accompany him whenever possible. We know that’s true.
Unfortunately..It all comes down to ” Image” (hate that word, when it comes to David). And being taken seriously by the “business”.

Even though I think I am David’s “#1 unconditional fan”,
(like we all do)..I sometimes hope he doesn’t become the HUGE superstar..Don’t know why exactly, maybe for many reasons. Just talked to the Clearview Mall manager in Metarie. I was so looking forward to seeing David there as planned. She had just this morning posted the announcement on the mall internet site that David would be there PERFORMING with Jessie McCartney at 12 noon. She was shocked when I told her B97’s site said David would not be and said she would investigate and call me back. Anyway, it turns out he won’t be performing at the mall but Jessie McCartney still will, but they will both be performing a mile down the road outdoors at 4:30pm. She finally told me, “this is what it is. David’s dad did not want him performing at a mall.”
Why is it OK for him to perform on the street outside and not in a beautiful new mall when Jessie McCartney still is, and he is a bigger name than David right now? I’m bummed but still planning on going to the outdoor event at 4:30, but I want some confirmation on that too. There was to be a Meet and Greet of sorts for B97 winners to meet with David and Jessie and David will be at the mall for that, but only Jessie will perform there. I am dismayed.

I’m not dismayed (well, I wasn’t planning on going!) that David isn’t doing the Mall gig. I think Jeff is looking out for him, and that is the choice that fits them right now. I think doing a free Mall performance is, how should I say it, a little beneath either Jesse or David.

Freo – the way I understand it from a poster on IDF and Snarkies who lives there. This particular parade (there are MANY in New Orleans area during Mardi Gras) is in a suburb and is a “family friendly” parade. No flashing. So no worries. The more risque, shall we say, parades take place in NO itself near the French Quarter. According to her.

Of course we’re going to wax poetic on David’s artistry, his looks, his performances, and – yes – our fears and anxieties about the direction David’s career seems to be taking.

Look. The music industry and the entertainment world in general are treacherous. No matter an artist’s potential for greatness, no matter how phenomenal an artist may be, Image, Management, and Label Sabotage can derail a genuine talent.

So many of us jokingly talk about how cuh-ray-zee we go when we don’t get any David news for a week. Can you imagine never getting any David news for a year? For 5 years? That’s what mismanagement and/or sabotage can do.

That’s why, even when I don’t always agree with Rascal’s posts, I completely understand where he’s coming from when he frets about David (or his peeps) not taking his public image as a music artist more seriously.

That’s why, even when their paranoia takes them to all kinds of irrational places, I empathize with those contingents in his fanbase who immediately become suspicious whenever promotion seems to decrease or when they can’t get his ALTNOY music video on the VH1 countdown or when he has to perform at some mall.

We as his fans know his massive potential. We’ve also been burned because we saw how certain media spin and behind-the-scenes manipulations cost him the AI crown, which doesn’t mean much really – except in those tiny instances where you think, Dang it! I could’ve been watching David on my TV during one of these Inauguration ball events Tuesday night if he had won.

David obviously has dreams for success. He says he’s already living them, and I want him to keep living them for a while longer. I want to hear him on my radio when I’m driving to and from work (not just on my playlist) and I want to see him occasionally on my TV (not just on my pc).

I will be able to make peace with his decision if David ever personally chooses to leave public life, but if others make that decision for him (by mismanaging or sabotaging his career) that is what I won’t be able to stomach.

I’ve always loved this blog for being able to share with other Archies my hopes, dreams (literally), joys, and even my fears and anxieties.

i came in here this morning feeling a bit snobbish about NOT wanting David to sing in shopper’s paradise…THE MALL… but I aired my thoughts…not that well received this a.m….but after a few hours I am happy to see that some others have the same feelings about it..

Kizzi #281.. I ask myself this question. When do our fears and anxiety about David’s career path become a burden to him? He needs to do what “works for him” without alot of pressure from all his different fanbases. I am very thankful that we can come here with our concerns but I do not wish for David to “take on” our obsessive concern and over analyzing. He seems happy and as long as he can sing, and I believe that what level of “stardom” he achieves is not that important in the big scheme of things.
I know it has been said that this is a place for us as his unconditional fans to vent and fret and gush!
I love it here. Our mutual love for the Voice is such a blessing.

betsy, I had a dream about David about a week ago, but haven’t shared it because, well…it kind of upset me. With all the comments about the mall performance, I thought I’d share it. It was very real and I woke up with a bad feeling.

Anyway, I was at a concert, not sure where, and David was performing with Jesse. I don’t know if he was opening for him or they were sharing the stage. After David was through singing, Jesse came out and said, “So I hear you haven’t had your first kiss yet.” David was starting to answer and Jesse just grabbed him and gave him a big kiss, To say the least, David was stunned and Jesse just laughed. The crowd was in an uproar and I felt sick. Then I woke up.

I don’t know why I would dream something like that. It was the first dream I have ever had with David in it. If they are going to be like that, I’d rather not have them.

I for one am glad David is not performing at the mall!

Julie – How odd. I was compelled to watch that this morning. I haven’t watched it in about 2 weeks, until today.

I don’t know how lond I can keep Adam off the avi. I have a new one that I love but I don’t want to gross anyone out. It’s his first taste of rice cereal and he is spitting it out!

Jesse lucked out when Leona Lewis was chosen to sing the song Bleeding Love, which was co-written by Jesse. The song is a HUGE hit..still being played on the radio several time a day in some markets after almost a year. Jesse has gotten a lot of buzz and respect just because of the song. Jesse lucked out..no voice, no nothing. But you know what David would say? He’d say..”Jesse’s cool”.
Thing is, Leona has a pretty good voice, but not another Mariah like Simon said ( she’s his discovery ).She tries but just does not have the range that Mariah has..IMO.

Did you guys see the email from the New Orleans Station Manager over at FOD? Why do I have a feeling there was drama involved with David’s people canceling this mall performance….

I have mixed feelings about the mall performance. While I can see the point many have made about this gig being “beneath” David, performing or appearing in malls is typical for teen performers. Its not so much about the venue, but mall performances that attract hordes of screaming teens always get tons of free press. It’s great promo more than anything. Remember when the Twilight cast appeared at some mall just before the film was released and all heck broke loose? It was all over the media and helped pique interest in the film…

Freo, being choosy about venue like this does not sound like David to me. And let’s look at it from a bigger picture. Even though the gig may be cheesy, he would be appearing with Jesse McCartney, who is a pretty big star on the pop scene. In addition, David should be as accomodating as possible, as he needs this station to be playing his songs. I would love to see him in a small but classy venue too. But, David chose the pop route, and malls seem to be a typical pit stop.

It’s cool if David wants to have certain “rules” about the types of places he will or will not play. I just don’t think it’s cool to back out after a commitment had been made.

LittleM, I understand their wanting to have him play at better places than at malls. But can someone tell me where that tree lighting ceremony was held? Was it at a mall? I haven’t seen the email at FOD. I know the Clearview Mall manager seemed truly sorry to hear he would not be performing and that with no notice to the venue. I think she may have been an Archie. She certainly seemed to realize the loss of David would be a blow to turn out and sales. They were really looking forward to him. He would have amazed so many people who won’t bother to go to his concerts cause they don’t know him or think of him as the way he was on AI and don’t realize how awesome he has become since then. It was during Mardi Gras too, or Family Gras in Metarie and the crowd would have been enormous. So many people there for the attractions and food and festivities. He would have blown that Mall away!

Cook may not be planning on making money the first couple of years in exchange for attracting a huge fan base. This will almost certainly result in huge album sales in the end and much more expensive concerts when demand is greater. But maybe he has more money to buoy him up during these early years since he is the winner. I wonder how much help David is getting and if profit has to be more a factor for him. I’m sure Cook isn’t getting paid for the USO concerts but think of the crowds of thousands he’s reaching.

LittleM – I remember a lot of those college concerts were paid for by student activity fees or something like that. I think I saw a ton of concerts for free or peanuts when I was in college and there were two colleges in town. Those were the days.

As for Jesse McCartney, I remember him from the soap “All My Children”. He was about seven or eight years old and rather cute but had no acting chops. So now Jesse is trying a singing career. I’m sure he’s relieved that David’s not singing at the mall but he must cringe every time he finds out that David is performing at the same venue. Jesse might have the look and the dance moves and wrote a pretty decent song for Leona Lewis, but when it comes to singing, Jesse…please leave that to David Archuleta THE VOICE.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you know that the rumor about David performing in Utah on February 14th is not true. There was a chat on Snarky Archies tonight, and they were tossing around tour date speculations. This was just a random date mentioned in fun as they were all wanting a concert near their home.

Before we go assuming David’s camp are the one’s who did not want David to perform in the mall with Jesse..we need to also think of the possibility that more buzz was created about DAVID THE VOICE than Jesse performing, maybe causing a problem with headlining..
ie..who performs first? This may not have one thing to do with David’s decision. It may all be a problem with Jesse’s camp..David just does not have the ego to insist on the DIVA treatment ( although I think he deserves it !).
On the other hand, after all the flak that was caused by the NYE & Sundance gigs..maybe there was a problem with certain aspects of the Mall gig and they thought it would not work for David The Voice. We just don’t know the happenings behind the scene. I’m still thinking Jesse’s camp don’t like the competition..or the the fact that David’s concert tour will be starting about the same time. But I’d be assuming too, and you know what they say about people who ASSume??

I wish you were right about that. But Jesse has a big hit – Leavin – and composed a mosnter hit – Bleeding Love. He has been in the music scene longer than David, has a fancy band and backing vocals, and as some have said here, is a big name in pop, especially among teens. Fragile as his voice is – sounds like he’s on Helium! – his musicality isn’t. I think he makes the most of the little he has and is a confident performer. David would surely gain more fans in his target audience by performing alongside him. I just feel we don’t need to diminish other artists’ accomplishments. I know David wouldn’t. He acknowledges everybody and I think this shows his wisdom. Let’s keep it real. David is amazing, but right now not enough people know that.

Yes, I’m talking about people seeing him as an amazing, current singer, relevant to the current music scene, and whose music they might want to check and buy, not simply knowing he was on AI and can belt out a ballad.

I’d prefer Chris Brown, too, but I think it’s a dream. Which veteran singer would you pick, HG?

I’m with Silverfox 399, I don’t believe David’s management backed out of a signed contract. I believe there was a misunderstanding on the part of the radio station and the venue (Clearview Mall).

As for the tour, Ticketmaster now owns Azoff Mgt and is run by Irving Azoff. Given Ticketmaster’s relationship w/concert venues, I believe they can easily pull off this last minute solo tour for David.

Re. Jesse Mac, I respect his musicality as mentioned by valbraz. If you look at his Jingle Ball/Jam interviews and meet & greet videos, he looks a bit disengaged when interacting with others. Also, he rec’d some poor newspaper reviews during those tours. Some reporters called him “uninspired”, a “throw back to boy bands”, and the “old man” of the tour. Hence, I don’t believe he has something personal against David. Perhaps Jesse is just going thru something distressful in his personal life.

Do you think David’s label wanted him to open for someone big, but Jeff wants him to do the solo tour?

I have a thought: Wouldn’t it be better for David to open for a big-name artist this summer this time around?

I discovered Butterfly Boucher, who opened for Sarah McLachlan, that way. After the concert I bought her album. After Sarah’s tour was over, Butterfly then did the small-venue club tour in many of the same cities, and we went to see her at a small standing-room-only bar.

Doesn’t that seem like a better strategy?
