I really hesitated to come here and be all negative but I need to vent, so sorry ahead of time. SF, I am glad you get to hear Crush on the radio in your area. So I was prompted to check again at a couple of the SF area stations. To this day, I have not heard it and I stopped checking their play list awhile ago. Anyone else? Collegemom? Nothing on Alice, but get this (I was really afraid of this), Cook’s lame Light On is on the list! UGH! MAJOR UGH!! Sorry if I’m offending any Cook fans here, but I was afraid of this because this makes me see RED! I just wrote the program director of the Seacrest affiliated station, after having scrolled through 440 songs on their list, no Crush but two of Cook’s songs, yes, the lame Light On that was released much later than Crush. I am soooooo angry!!!

Take a deep breadth… I just want the stations to tell me why so I can understand this nonsense, but I’m sure no one will reply. Fan sites always tell us to be nice and polite, but I barely have the strength not to tell them to go F%@* OFF!!

Did everyone see the Shoutout to his fans by David that FOD posted? He thanked FOD for being a great POSITIVE support for him. At the risk of offending an really getting on VIP’s bad side..I know David really appreciates “positivity” which means respect for his morals & standards..so I wonder why there seems to be no monitoring of his MySpace Page?
Does he even really go in there and does he read the text comments and mobile messages? Some of the photos of ‘his friends” are, shall we say..not up to David’s standards..some may as well be naked! My point is that I just don’t think David peruses his MySpace. I think he has a private page for his family & friends..but the one for his fans is just that..entertainment for the fans. Some of the questions he’s asked on his mobile # are downright offensive, but they’re not deleted. I just can’t imagine David listening to some of the messages and get upset. I’m jus’ sayin’ and it’s been buggin’ me for a while. I know I say some stupid things here, and yeah, I worry about it sometimes, but I’m harmless, right? haha!

Maybe someone can answer this: I am curious why the leader of the Mormon church was at the inauguration ceremony. Did he lead the invocation?

Freofan – I can take a guess as to why he was there, but I don’t really know for sure. The headquarters for the mormon church is in Salt Lake City, it was settled and founded by mormons, and for many years, Salt Lake City was mostly Mormon. Now, it is about 60% mormon, but the President of the church is very well respected and invited to most things. He did not give the opening prayer – a Rabbi from SLC gave the opening . . he may have prayed at a different part – I didn’t watch all the way to the end . . but that is my best guess as to why he was there.

Salt Lake City proper has decreased quite a lot in mormon population. Many other faiths have a strong foundation in SLC and most are very friendly with the mormon church. Most of the rest of Utah is still a high percentage of mormons . . usually 70 – 80% in many areas.

Random question for the Canadians: Is Canadian Idol, Theo Tams, well rec’d there? Does he have out an album yet? I’ve seen some of his youtube clips and he’s tremendously talented. However, last December, it seemed that some of the Canadian radio stations treated David as if he were more of an “Idol” celebrity.

Vermeer #77, Crush is #9 on the playlist of Magic 107.7 here in Orlando for a while now (finally) ~ you don’t know how much blood, sweat & tears went into that ~ but after finally giving up, I took a peek one day recently, and there it was! Also, if you click “On Demand” you can watch the fan interview that has appeared on many other stations as well. There’s more promotion going on than you think! ALTNOY will take awhile I’m sure.

Anyone else out there who lost sleep over David’s album sales this week? Why would I behave like that unless I’m seriously ill?

I have to remind myself everyday that his career is not in my hands but lies in a much Higher Power’s, as Silverfox says in her prayer, ‘…as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.’

I really do believe in that and I know it’s a great destiny. If only I could fastforward to that great part of the story!

#92 valbraz – I did some research on this when I saw the sales number as I am a new to music sales.

So I’ll share what I found: Album sales are always the lowest after the new year. The difference between #1 and #50 on the HDD sales list this week is 28k. His sales will probably be lower next week according to experts who know annual trends. He is doing fabulously with his sales over all and dips are anticipated this time of the year. He is ahead of many established Pop artists which is great for a debut artist. From what I am reading we fans need to request ALTNOY at our local radio stations to get spins so it will be another Hit Single – that will also promote his album. All is good from what I have been reading.

Kizzi and Ebonyangel, thanks for the reassuring comments. Anyway, after watching that Fox Utah I feel much better. those girls were so cute in their devotion for David. But honestly, I had nightmares last night and kept thinking of him. I think it was the combination of a silly article I read from a nobody who writes at a New Haven paper and the numbers. I also must avoid reading MJ’s too often. too much love for the other guy makes me slightly sick. Of course, they must feel the same way about us.

So I think I had better start by saying that as a fan of metal / rock and the occasional bout of ‘emo’ music; I was slightly dubious about the latest R n B offering, especially when it came in a 17-year old package!

However as the runner-up in the US’s American Idol and being listed in second place on Forbes List of Breakout Stars of 2008, there’s little surprise that this track really changed my mind. Woo!

I’m usually a little wary about people who have been churned out of talent shows, because more often than not, they are just the best of a bad bunch; with the obvious exception of Leona Lewis, Jennifer Husdon and Kelly Clarkson. And now of course, David Archuleta.

If you weren’t lucky enough to watch some of his heart stopping performances on American Idol, then you will be happy to know the song has slow-grinding verses mixed with a chorus which has your feet heading right for the dance floor and your ’come to bed’ eyes wandering for the best looking guy in the room.

If you take all the talent from the boy bands of the past few years – Blue, N’Sync or Backstreet Boys combine it with an more edgy sound and a super hot man, David Archuleta’s Crush is what I’m pretty sure you’d end up at.

What’s more, I can hardly believe that this heartfelt, catchy song is coming from a boy of just seventeen years old; and if this is what he’s bringing out at his age, I have little doubt that he is going to grow into mind-blowing tracks in no time at all.

An absolutely mind-blowing debut single from a real American Idol…. Well one in the making at least.

happy #121 – No SEATS! GGGAAAHHH – So 202 ppl (101 teens and 101 guardians?) but at least only 202 ppl and not 2002. Oh well, we stood for 3 1/2 hours on hard concrete in a, shall we say, rustic Northern LIghts bar to listen to 25 mins of music (after two other performers) so the silver lining is it is just David and maybe more than 25 mins and maybe new songs!!! So I wish you 40 mins or more of singing and new songs! And for me, I wish one of those new songs to be “Somebody Out There”, oh, please, please, please, TPTB, grant my wish!

Yes, I would love to know what promo events are coming up on TV and radio. Maybe they are still being worked out, or maybe ALTNOY is being promoted by the fans this time around. I am confused. Hopefully we will hear some info soon.

I see how big 19 year old Taylor Swift is in the big world of entertainment and the JoBros. and I wonder why when David has been so phenominal that he has not been swept away into the big time a little sooner and not just schedules made for promos…He is someone that is fantastic like everyone knows and wants to see so is that not enough reason for people to want him on their shows or awards nights?

…third time and I am out of here for someone else to write…After David had such an astounding success during the 53 concert tour and people flew to see him from thousands of miles away…that should have rung a few bells…Jay Leno should have him as a guest and be glad he could get him…the same goes for Oprah…or is it who you have as a record company and who you have as your managing team? Still the NYE being on the quiet side has me wondering like it does others…

Quit yer worrying!

David is doing fine, great…fantastic even. He’s doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing. This is a marathon not a race. He’s a NEW artist! We want him steadily out there but we don’t want over saturation. People (as in casual fans) will get tired of him and he’d be a flash in the pan. We want a DECADES long career. We don’t want him to stuff it all into a few months, right? Right now, he’s got buzz you can’t pay for coming out the wazoo. haha! And he’s building a career with a solid foundation, not just a “make as much as you can quick and then get out” career. All he wants is to make a living with his music. I have no doubt he will. Because unlike some of the others out there he actually has talent that will only improve with time. He won’t “outgrow” the teen thing. His music and career will mature naturally over decades. I wish I wasn’t so old so that I could see him selling music and giving concerts into his 80s (like Tony Bennett) if he wants.

There are other reasons I wish I was still his age…but…ahem….

Sandy – Taylor Swift and the JoBros have been around a couple more years than David. They are not NEW artists. He’ll catch up and dare I say blow them out of the water eventually and will last much, much longer. Don’t stress yourself out over it. (hugs!)

This morning I watched an idol of David’s, Kanye West, on a video of “Love Lockdown” and I was confused as to why such an “premier artist of our time” (just ask Kanye, he’ll tell you all about it) would do such a lame video. It started out kind of artsy and then turned into a kind of “tribal” vibe that was totally out of context then the song ended with these chicks in patterned, colorful bodysuits and I’m thinking….”huh?”…and that was followed by “Womanizer” by Britney Spears and I’m thinking about what I’ve read about her “comeback” being “bigger than her last one” and I’m like “WHAT???”

I’ll take David Archuleta in a heartbeat, thankyou very much!

Sandybeaches, don’t worry David is doing just fine. I turned on my computer just a little while ago and the first thing that I saw was David’s face. It was a promo for ALTNOY the video, something about a girl David can’t forget, lol.

Earlier, talking to my 17 y/o, soon to be 18 in two days, she told me about someone sneaking their ipod into class and when Crush came on all the girls started squealing and getting all excited. They love David and think he’s hot. This is a tough crowd, they are into Tpain and the like, so for them to be into David is so exciting for me.

He is going to be alright, in fact he is going to thrive. David is going for longevity not to be a flash in the pan or the ‘it’ boy of the day. He is building his audience, and making his case every day. The music industry is in a bit of a slump right now, but this has indeed happened before, when singles and not albums rule. I am just going to sit tight and watch things unfold, no stress at all.

BTW, I post at Mj’s under the name abbysee, and it’s a tough room, but David is holding his own, as are his fans that post there. I do my part, and have since the first time I laid eyes on him. I am a little loathe to continue to play the game because I am all about positivity where David is concerned and the fanwaring is getting a little boring there. It happens every season, so it’s not just always directed at David. Of course it’s a Cook lovefest over there. I am okay with that. It’s an Archuleta lovefest here, so no worries.

Of the 12 songs on the main album, that is my favorite…I think the bonus tracks & Desperate are actually better than the 12 on the main album. JMO.

BETSY – that’s why technology is such a boon! If not for all the uploaded & downloaded materials, I don’t think any of us could stand w/o having some kind of withdrawal symptoms for not seeing him for even a short while.

And thank goodness for DVDs – am just burning the AI S7 show and it is about 16GB. Imagine if we could only rely on CDs — that would take me like forever to burn! I actually have it on my external drive but you never know, right? The only thing missing is that dang CRAZY audition clip… hmmmp! If only TPTB had the foresight to issue a DVD of the S7 show with the deleted scenes – gah!!!

Good morning to all of David’s admirers…

Thank you to everyone who responded to my restlessness over not seeing or hearing enough of him…

Times have changed and one point made was that the industry is in a slump and it has to be with all the craziness they allow to be called the music…

With Elvis and The Beatles, there were many others and we were not huge admirers of theirs because of a shortage! They are each so well admired and listened to today that the proof is there with their longevity…….

If David had been discovered in the 50’s or 60’s it would have been different for him…People had better sense and refinement…!!!

So today is today and by now you know I can be impatient…I have come to realize after all these many years that I may have an adult attention defecit disorder!!!…My uncle told me not too long ago that when I was very young I wanted things done quite quickly…funny no one told me about that…But, actually only things done quickly that are fantastic like David and waiting to happen!!

I just heard for the first time the full meaning of the song…and now I have listened to it a few more times…

That is David’s life about the future person he is to meet and why he waited…and you will say…well yaah..but he means every word of it!! That is why this will be #1…and maybe his #1…true through and through…Not singing about a girl that is make believe…This is in the life of David even to the religious part…Kara wrote this am I right? Did he have a paart in the writing?

“Don’t Tell Me”..and I sat here with a smile on my face, wondering “who” he was singing to on that song..I know he didn’t write it, but it must have had some personal meaning to him..I just like that he uses music to get his point across…maybe even way back then! His dad was asked if David would ever re-record that song and he said emphatically “NO!” hahaha! Too bad, cuz I really like it!!
David may not be able to express his “displeasure” about things in an effective way by speaking the words cuz he wouldn’t ever want to hurt anyone, so he expresses his deep feelings and emotions through music and lyrics.

I can’t take the screaming which seems to be like a trademark, if you will, when he sings. He has a good voice and I just don’t think he needs to do that on every song he sings.

The descriptions of Crystal & Indigo “children” ( who grow up to be adults, right? ) is so right on about David, and so NOT “woo-woo”!

JR..I read that David did not write the lyrics on DTM, but I find it hard to buh-lieve that he didn’t have a hand in it. I can’t see David singing a “rebel” song at such a young age unless he actually wrote some of the lyrics.

Freo..Jeff is not emphatic that David did not write the song, just that he’s not going to re-record it. I also read where Jeff said the song was about the “music business”, not any persons in particular. Whatever. Who cares, anyway. I really, really like the song, lyrics and music and I think David should recourd it again, but with a more current sound..like Works For Me. yeah! Then he can use the Elle photo as the photo to promote the song..can you say “rebel”!! haha!

vermeer and others, When I asked Jeff on vermeer’s account about Don’t Tell Me, he said, (as vermeer wrote in #205) that David wrote the music and a friend in his 20s wrote the words. Jeff then said that the song is not a rebellion against him, but against society.

Oh, the Dec. 16 Chicago snowstorm!! Joner and I were caught in that, too, helpless in traffic while David was waiting to meet with us……

Where can I hear “Don’t Tell Me”?

mamassun….people aren’t talkin much about TBWY yet but it is beautiful and not hard to figure out…I can imagine him on stage playing the piano for this one…it will be even better because that is how his songs become in person…

As for TBWY..I’m betting if David is invited, he may debut the song on AI..But that’s a big IF, cuz even though that’s what I initially thought, I had forgotten that DiGuardi also wrote a song for Cook. We all know Cook will be a guest on AI..that’s a given. So, now I’m not sure if David will be invited or not. We’ll have to wait & see. If not during the season, maybe for the season finale..

Interesting food for thought when contemplating why some “don’t get David”, and fun to read and think about on any level…. This story got the largest and most global response of anything I have ever written, for any publication. I think the enthusiastic classical-music blogosphere helped give it a viral life, as did the availability of quality video. It’s kind of humbling, and I thank you all….

There is an interesting backstory to this event…I first got the idea for this story about two years ago, when I emerged from the McPherson Square Metro station on the way to work and saw a ragged-looking man playing keyboard. He was quite remarkably good, and no one seemed to be noticing him. He had maybe a buck or two in change in his open case.
I walked away kind of angry. I thought, “I bet Yo Yo Ma himself, if he were in disguise, couldn’t get through to these deadheads.” When I got to the office, I actually tried to reach Mr. Ma’s agent.

Life intervened. Time went by, but this story idea always stayed with me. It was my friend Tim Page, The Post’s brilliant classical music critic, who eventually suggested Joshua Bell. I had thought that the most difficult part of this story was going to be securing Bell’s cooperation, but that proved relatively easy, as explained in the story….
When I decided to do this, the first person I called was Jane Covner, Joshua Bell’s highly capable publicist. Jane listened to the pitch, and then was silent for a moment or two. I expected a genteel rejection, but then, she said:
“Can you keep a secret?”
It turns out Josh had just been informed that he was going to win the Avery Fisher Prize — American classical music’s biggest honor — on April 10. Jane wasn’t at all sure that Josh would agree to do this, but she was thinking like a publicist, and said that if we’d be willing to schedule the publication of the piece for April 8, the odds of his agreeing would increase. A double-whammy of publicity always works to a performer’s benefit.
So, we deliberately held the piece until now. Heh heh. A small price to pay…”

I have always thought that TBWY is like a hymn and a prayer. “And when you’re standing here in front of me__that’s when I’ll know that God does exist.” The piano is played reverently, like something heard in church. A beautifully contructed composition where the music and lyrics are never “two worlds spinning out of control” and then “come together eventually,” but are seamlessly united throughout the song. Sublime.

SF – I’m pretty sure that I read in some trade articles that she did write a song for Cook also. But it just most probably didn’t make the album. The one that Diane Warren wrote for David didn’t make it either.

If he does debut TBWY on AI I hope they let him do another song also. Even though it would be great to have him do TBWY and have Kara sing with him on it (even though I’d rather she hadn’t in the first place), it will just reinforce some of the criticism he got during AI. Ballad boy. I’d like to see him come out with a more up tempo song and then finish with TBWY to show his versatility. But I doubt they’d let him do that. (sigh)

FYI, though I love all of David’s song for different moods and different reasons, I find as time goes on that my most played up tempo song of David’s is WFY, which GOSH DANG IT, is not on the regular album (grrrrr). I LOVE that song! Gets me grooving and singing along. I must look like an idiot in the car driving down the road with that song blaring. haha!

juliebug #240 I hope David sings something from his album that is more upbeat, concertish if he appears on AI. I want him to strut his stuff, hunker down, run across the stage, capture the audience in the palm of his hand and make them sit up and take notice. Maybe TMH. But if he’s going to do a ballad, I’d like it to be Somebody Out There.

Just busting in to say:
I miss David with every fiber of my being.

I know he is about one of the hardest-working artists out there right now and I really don’t begrudge him his time to rest away from us but dang it – I really miss him!
He really feels like a close friend you just want to hang with – talking, laughing and goofing around singing kareoke – LOL! I want to know how his day went or some fun dorky, quirky stuff I’m sure he’ll write about soon.

At this point though he is probably in a ton of meetings prepping for his concert, recording the bear song or learning to play some of his other songs, rehearsing with the band or writing new material. He NEVER really rests does he?
Anyway – thanks for allowing me to whine -LOL!

Well some great stories from last night and new pictures…so enjoyable!!!

Aaahh!!..To be With You…people miss the connection with you David when you are not around!!! But that’s life…

highervibe…That is where David is I believe…but what about the people who recognize that there are higher vibes? Are they on a higher vibe as well in some capacity? We have a dog who scares you with his connections to the higher vibes…orbs and such things as caught on digital cam…He has complete goodness, talents in the show ring unmatched, very much like an English gentleman, takes everyone outdoors when any noise like a smoke detector goes off…worries about people who are ill…Here is the craziness…he plays the piano…one that lies flat on the floor and he uses his nose to play the keys. He sits perfectly in front of music boxes to have them turned on and the music is classical. He brings the recorder to my daughter to play and he gathers up all the other dogs to sit in front of her to listen….I get flute and clarinet music on youtube for him to listen to, he puts his musical toys (Fisher Price has classical music with their toys)…in front of him near his piano and sometimes he turns them all on at the same time…He falls asleep to classical instrumental music most nights…I am not crazy so don’t think it please. and ban me from the site!!!..There are higher vibes and higher energies….

Many say that David has been chosen for special reasons for special things to do…aren’t we fortunate to be part of this!!

Hmm, I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen David with his shirt tucked in…the white dress shirt with tie. Is he finally getting comfortable with his body? He looks fantastic!

I love how the photos show the color of his eyes. And the black and white photo with him in the white v-neck with his arms on his legs screams a classy Calvin Cline ad to me. I bet that someone will offer him a modeling contract.

In regards to David’s cd as a gift…When we have Christmas dinner, I dress up the table with party crackers at each place and a small present for each person…This year I had the same size present for each person…the exact size of a “cd”…All were afraid and thought that I had bought them…husbands and wives…the same cd…So, the comments started before they were opened before desert…One comment…”Why did you give both of us the same cd when you only needed one and we could share?” …Or…”You really are sure that I will like it!”…and “I knew that you would do this”….The end of the story is that they opened their gifts and it was not David’s cd but a same size gift casse containing a wallet size Swiss Army emergency kit with scissors, tiny pen, little screw driver etc…I really had the laugh on them because I had to listen to their comments on and on until the gifts were opened…and bingo dead silence…not a word…I actually had the last laugh …for once…

Kait…the teasing has calmed down by my youngest who is 29…I played SOT last night and she called out from a distance…Who is that?? Well, I just said…David…I believe she really liked it but after calling me weird and so on before she couldn’t quite say she really liked it…I told them all that they would find out about David sooner or later…I went to the concert in Toronto with my husband and he told the kids it was “amazing” when they asked…he is not a music buff so they were very surprised…

I’m not sure what to think about this..wasn’t even gonna say anything..but, you know me..always startin’ sumpin’…

This morning Cook called in & was interviewed on a radio station here in my city. Nothing strange about that, right? WRONG..this station is a POP station..nothing but POP..no rock what-so-ever..They play David’s CRUSH, never have I heard Cook on this station. The interview was to plug “Light Out” or whatever the name of his single is..Anyway, I listened cuz I was curious to see if the DJ’s would ask about AI or David..they didn’t..But I don’t think Cook gave them a chance cuz they did ask about Kimberly Caldwell..They had the nerve to ask Cook if it was true that Kimberly cheated on him! Well..Cook said “My blood pressure just shot up!” so needless to say..they went to a commercial, played a couple of songs, then went back to the interview..the tone had changed and they asked no more questions..just played a stupid game with him. Then asked him if he had ever been in KY..Cook said NO!! What? He was here in Lexington!! How quickly they forget!! haha! (Bet David remembers!). Then they mentioned Cook’s song and asked him how it felt to be a rock star..blah, blah, blah. But they never played it??? Or maybe they did later on in the morning. My point about bringing this up is that WHY is he plugging his music which he himself says is ROCK, on a pop station..especially since it’s been out now for several weeks? Why now? When David’s POP single, ALTNOY was just released?? What?? Somebody explain it to me like I’m not a DAVID ARCHULETA fan and completely devoted to him heart & soul, so it can make sense to me…if you can.

This I will tell you David admirer…AI thought that they would have two winners this year and they did it this way so that they would…if David A. was the winner of this contest…there would only be one winner because Cook would not make it too far as runner up…that is my view right or wrong…They knew that David was ready for super stardom and did not need the confines of AI winner…in any way…In fact, being the winner could possibly hinder DA…I will never believe that they do not have compolete control over the whole outcome…voting is nice but the end result was carefully thought out by producers around a table…To make it a phenominal year they did it this way…DA was honored on the first night of the finale and DC on the other…The judges expressed how they felt about DA (not to look too stupid for the years ahead) but let it look like the fans made the final decision…Everything in business has political undertones and control…

Poor DC, he neither has the temper of DA or the charisma…he needed to win to be anywhere other then attending his bar and I am not trying to be any meaner then Simon…

GH..you have a point about David’s good looks being a plus as far as TPTB who have no vision. We all are cra-zeh for David’s beauty and more so as he matures. But honestly, his looks were secondary to me when I first heard him sing Heaven. His LOOKS didn’t come into play FOR ME anyway, til the AI tour. It was then that I began to NOTICE how great looking David was, but I was already in love with THE VOICE. But I guess TPTB were thinking of the tween/teen target audience who do go for the looks of their teen idols, whether there’s talent there or not. So maybe, if the looks weren’t there, he may not have gotten a contract so easily. So sad to think that could have happened! I think though, that David is fulfilling his destiny..great looks or not.

For me, it was the “helloooo gorgeous” recognition. THEN, I discovered that a helluva voice accompanied the beauty, and I was hooked. Then, the sweet personality, and the love just kept on growing exponentially. ha ha!

Unfortunately, in an industry that thrives on superficiality, the looks count. And I must say, these latest “supermodel” photo shoots, it doesn’t hurt that such a divine gift as David’s music comes wrapped in such a scrumptious package.

Lise, Cook is being promoted as a “pop” star because, honestly, that’s the best he can do with the AI title right now. I seriously doubt hardcore rockers would take Cook seriously as a “rocker” no matter how much he claims it.

Regardless of what you may think of Simon, after today’s photos you have to think he must have been a bit prophetic when he called the truth from Hollywood Week – You’ re young, good-looking, likeable and you’ve got a great voice!
SF – like you David’s voice captivated me first because at the time I thought he was cute but with beautiufl eyes. Somehow over the course of the AI tour and the revelation of his personality in the way he treated his fans – he went from simply being cute to GORGEOUS! His outer appearance seems like a lethal bi-product of his beautiful inner spirit. Everyone who meets him in person goes ga-ga over his “niceness” as well. That’s right David – slay us when we’re already weak – lol!

SF – am actually just kidding and sorry for the double post — I thought I canceled the 1st one cos I had to add that “at Cook” cos no way will I be saying that to you at the top of my lungs but just want to make sure that is clear.

In any case, Re Cook’s songs category… it is often difficult to define genres… one person’s rock is another person’s pop, which makes it even more difficult – esp with how iTunes segments the songs. For one, both genres have changed form immensely over the years.

And the term “pop” is basically used in 2 ways. The 1st is really a genre of rock, where it means kind of a lighter, more tuneful approach–Squeeze and Crowded House are perfect examples of this, as well as early Beatles, Elvis Costello’s lighter stuff, etc.

The 2nd meaning describes the most popular music of a given era…today, it would mean stuff like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, but if you talk to any generation, they’ve got a type of music they called “pop”, and they’re all different.

So I think the only reason why Cook’s songs are categorized under pop is because of intent of the term “pop music” when it was created – which is to be popular to the masses. Choosing radio & TV to launch your songs/album is indeed catering to the popular mass as opposed to a time when rock bands and rocks stars would never even venture into the mass medium, otherwise you are considered a sell out. So if I choose to be anally retentive about it, then Cook’s not rock.

There is actually a 3rd way how others view the diff between pop & rock but it is too harsh — with pop being talentless , no inclination for songwriting and all that bubblegum acts VS rock regarded as real music… That’s coming from the purist. Of course I don’t agree with them.

CRUSH PARODY
You just know that something or someone has arrived when it is being imitated, let alone parodied! Love that Shelby Abbott guy. I wonder where he performed that cos the audience were lapping it up. When you get that kind of reaction, you just know that CRUSH has gone mainstream and is already in the consciousness of the public – tee-hee

Cook got my attention when he did Eleonor Rigby. Wasn;t impressed with I Will Always Be Ur Baby and Billie Jean — because to me, he was just being smart in the competition. But if you pay attention to his Eleonor Rigby (because I am a mad fan of the Beatles) and Diamond’s All I Really Need Is You, you’d see/hear that he has IT, too.

Of course, nowhere near our David! Haha!

on-line cuz it’s a special “Art Issue Featuring David Archuleta”.

Good evening everyone! Since we are talking about converts…I did give a David CD & candle to friends of mine for an open house party. Received a nice note back that they were enjoying the CD and the candle! Maddie, with her mom, Michelle, and brother, Drew, bumped into Archuleta as he left the hospital. So Archuleta graciously posed with Maddie for an impromptu photo on her mom’s cell phone.

ebonyangel – Yeah, I’ve looked at Gavin’s reaction during that performance too and feel like it was in good spirits. He doesn’t appear to be a mean spirited person, but who knows…

I think it’s really interesting how we all feel we know David when the reality of it is that we have formulated an image of him in our minds, then project it back onto him.

It’s true that he gives us all alot to work with because of his candidness in his blogs and interviews, but the truth of it is, we don’t “really” know him. We know that he seems consistently humble, courteous, kind-hearted, patient and hard working. He has shared with us the things that make him happy, excited, sad and nervous so we do know alot more about him than other people.

Looking at pictures of him during photo shoots is so interesting to me. He projects so many different images, and does them all so believably, that it always leaves me wondering which one best depicts the “real” David.

I guess that’s just the enigma of David Archuleta that keeps me so intrigued by him.

Joner..IMO, the “real” David is the one with his parents, especially with his mom, who I think he has a deep connection with even though he spends most of his time with dad. We have to remember that all photos in his photo shoots are “posed”..the photog gives David a direction, and David complies. (mark of a great future actor). We all do it when we are having our photos taken professionally, don’t we? The other photos which I think shows the “real” David are the candid photos taken by his fans..the ones he doesn’t “pose” for..those are some of the most beautiful of David. As the title of the Square article says..he’s “just David”.

Betsy, You are being Archu-cautious! Smart girl! I’m not sure if you’re in Michigan or surrounding, but if you are, I get it! This storm already dumped craploads yesterday! 7-10 more coming today, they say. If you’re inside looking out and nice and warm (like me), it really is quite beautiful. Glad I’m not driving in it though. Godspeed to all those who must endure!

Someone once wrote a “character” list in choosing a Husband. I remember #1 being “A man who loves and respects His mother”. Works for me!!! I can’t imagine a “Mom” on this planet not wanting David for a son! (or a Dad, for that matter).
