UK Tour with McFly
McFly guitarist Danny Jones
Now this looks like a good fit.
A credible, successful, talented London pop-punk band formed in 2004 and already on its sixth album, McFly’s reputation is “not just a boy band” but one with “serious musical skills” and “genuine likability” that has also proved themselves to be endlessly charitable: They have recorded songs for Comic Relief, Sport Relief, and a double A-side release in aid of Children in Need.
They consistently get better reviews from concert-goers and listeners than from critics, who tend to temper their enthusiasm because the band produces “innocuous pop songs that mums are just as likely to love as their teen daughters.”
Sound familiar?!
Europe will do wonders for David. Let’s pray he’s allowed to discover some of it.

A few of you know I get a kick out of horoscopes. Check out David’s for today….
Although you will be a high achiever, most of what you do will actually benefit others more than you, and that’s your intention. You realize what you do for them you do for yourself.
Kind of ironic.

rascal- ♥♥♥♥♥ , do you bring a thread to end our suffering?
“May the sound of this bell penetrate deep into the cosmos
So that all suffering in them ceases
The miracle happens
One single drop of this compassionate water is enough to bring back the refreshing spring to our mountains and rivers.
Listening to the bell I feel the afflictions in me begin to dissolve
My mind calm, my body relaxed
A smile is born on my lips
Following the sound of the bell, my breath brings me back to the safe island of mindfulness
In the garden of my heart, the flowers of peace bloom beautifully.”

I’m happy he’s going to Europe. David needs to experience overseas. I really really really don’t want Jeff to go with him. But I know there is ZERO percent chance of that happening, so I won’t even get my hopes up.
McFly seems cool. But they kinda seem like the British Jonas Brothers, so whatever.
I think at this point, my dream artist for David to open for a US tour in the summer would be Ne-Yo. He’s had 3 top 10 songs from his album, written 4 number one hits for other artists, and has won 2 grammys on sunday. He’s the “nice guy” in R&B. I think his fans would like David. And of course, Kelly Clarkson would be a dream (Cook will probably have her, though).
But knowing his management, he’ll probably tour with the Jonas Brothers.

I really must apologize to AZOFF! I thought They were gonna let the FLUFF MONSTER swallow David, dashing our hopes for David to be all that we KNOW he can be…there’s still hope on the horizon.
But the UK won’t keep him, right?

I think this was a carefully crafted pairing. My 19 year old likes McFly..rather than a “punk” sound, they remind me of the Rembrandts. A bit raw, but it’s a nice edge. Great exposure for David. Keep Trusting the Archuleta.

Oh my lord, im ecstatic. I have been a casual fan of this band since their beginning. They emerged in 2004 as a sort of very teeny pop rock band (very much like the Jonas Brothers) and had a couple of hits off their first album which set them up (Ive played and sung one of them live in school for a christmas concert haha). Since then, as they have got older album after album, they have emerged into a far more serious and authentic band, still clutching to their pop/rock roots but giving it more edge and authenticity. They grew out of their teeny pop days successfully, left their original label and their latest album (produced, recorded and released all by themselves, funded by corporate sponsers such as McDonalds and Pepsi) has been a major success and their credibility has grown alot amongst well, everyone. I have always liked them personally but as theyve grown older, many others have joined me, alot of people (males) of my age. Like I said, we even played one of their songs in a school gig.
I think its a perfect matching for David. They have a very similar demographic and I have to hand it to McFly, they have really gone from strength to strength and developed and grown where other similar bands couldnt. Im also impressed with the venues and the placement too. The Hammersmith Apollo is pretty much the most prestigious theater venue in the UK. Everyone has played there.
Ill be following him around on this one I think but it largely depends on money. David will gain alot from this tour and I honestly couldnt think of a better act to pair him up with. Established and successful artist with a similar demographic. Perfect.
If you guys wanna look up some good McFly songs then check out Obviously, Lies, Ill Be Ok and Ultraviolet.

Actually, my music teacher from last year walked into the lesson once and said ‘Do you guys know McFly? I went to see them with my daughter last night, she was desperate to go. I was actually quite surprised at how good they were!’
Thats praise indeed, trust me…
They really are a band who have grown out of their teenage roots. If you go listen to ‘Obviously’ or ‘5 Colours in Her hair’ which was off their very first album and then listen to ‘Lies’ or ‘On the Radio’ which is off their new album, you will see what I mean about how they have developed.
And yes, they do get naked on stage haha.

What’s this about “naked?” Or “gay?” I’m confused. Do they mean like dance pop- Lady Gaga gay music? Or like the Killers?.
Either way… I can’t believe Jeff is actually letting David tour with them! I’m very happy about this. David needs to hang with edgier people. After the disney crisis, this is great news.

Yes, the MyFly boys like to party and get naked before, during and after their concerts. This is good for David. After hanging out with the Nickelodeon and Disney crowd, he needs to get another perspective.

Well..I’ve been watching every McFly vid posted..and I gotta say..I’m Lovin’ them!!! I really love “LIES”. These kids are really good!
But to be honest..I’m a little leary that Jeff & Lupe..not to mention some other’s close to David, have any idea who McFly is and about their antics on stage? And when they check ‘em out..will they discourage David from appearing with them? They wouldn’t would they? This could be the start of BIG things for David..A “learning” experience!

BJ# 97 “Our boy is strong of faith and character”… exactly… and he’s also got wings..I think this will be great for him. I think David can appreciate the music and talent of someone first and foremost. Has he added a blog about it yet ? I’m watching my alerts for it.
Me thinks the Marketing Strategy must be to diversify ? Just as we weren’t “thrilled” with the Nick/Disney stuff… I can’t imagine the parents of those kids are over the moon about McFly.

I’m a BBC fan from way back, to the start of Cable. I love the British sense of humor…so irreverant and cras. “Love Actually” has to be one of my favorite movies and the sexiness in that movie just warms the heart. It always renews my faith in mankind and enlightens me as to how good it is to laugh and release the puritanical frustrations that overwhelm us at certain times.
After all of the fun today I may even be inclined to give David a break and watch Hannah Montana knowing that he will be exposed (no pun intended) to the great glorious world out there when he crosses the pond.
For someone that admits he hasn’t watched any R-rated movies, when (if) David takes a peek at youtube and watches some of McFly’s videos he will be educated about life in one full swoop.
And dang it….these guys seem really nice and loveable. There is a joyism about them that is catching. They aren’t doing what they are doing for the sensationalism of it (or so it looks to poor old me) but for the pure joy of letting their hair down and basking in the fun of being alive. That is it for the pyscho-babble.

102Kizzi — The only reason I don’t like the child strategy is that it compromises his already challenged image with his peer and opinion-maker markets. They’re doing it because it has a far better chance of album sales than trying to break him in some untested, unproven, original way. Were he already established, if he had achieved some young-adult cred already, I would cheer the freaking Build-A-Whatnot and the Miley whosits and even the Hannah Monstrosity. But not when he isn’t defined yet.
A UK / European tour almost always helps re-cast American artists.

David: They know everything about me it seems, even stuff they shouldn’t know, you know? YAY! I’m ecstatic!
I teach English at a private language institution in São Paulo and most of my groups consist of teenagers and young adults. The girls in one of my advanced groups are absolutely obsessed with McFly. I could hardly touch my planned lesson until they had shared all their McFly scoop. These are quite sophisticated 15, 16 year-olds who travel a lot and have attended concerts in the Uk. I told them about David, but only one of the boys – who loved Mariah and Britney – was actually interested. Can’t wait to tell them the news!

I’m thinking this sounds like an INCREDIBLY fun oppertunity for David! I’m SOOOOOO excited for him!
HOWEVER, I don’t like the implications that Jeff is not letting David do his own thing. What make Y’all think he is holding David back?
I know I might get a little frusrated if it was implied I needed change my values (or at least living by them ) to by precieved as some one who makes own decisions. I simply adapted a more conservative lifestyle on my own. What makes you think it’s being forced on David? Do you really think that just because he travels with Jeff, that doesn’t get to do thing by himself ?
I really feel like young people who honor their religion/ value system by living it are REALLY put down from time to time on here (& in general). Jeff realizes that David can be friends with people VERY differrent from himself and be OK.
Let’s remember how nonjudgemental David is; and that is possible he (David) is not as sheltered as he seems..

I’ll answer for me and me only! It isn’t that I care about the control that Jeff does or doesn’t have, I just don’t like the general perception that is created when Jeff is attached to David’s hip. 109amq — valid points. But I honestly don’t think anyone is advocating that David change his values or indulge in anything outside his own parameters. What I do think there is a… let’s say a suspicion of, is that David is rather assiduously corralled. Maybe not shielded from things or kept away, necessarily, but most definitely guided in certain directions. There are numerous indications and suggestions of it. There is indeed a tradition of it in his faith. Mormonism is–and I don’t mean this negatively at all, it’s just a neutral fact–exclusionary. Not on its face, perhaps, and not in day-to-day dealings, but anyone inside the faith will tell you that there is an “us and them” mentality. I’ve written about this before, and this is not the thread in which to explore it again, but artists need to be open to experience in order to create. For whatever reason, strict piety and great art have never proven to be terribly compatible. Artists are humanists. David is well on his way to that — his apparently non-judgmental approach to people is a sign of this. But some people think he would benefit from an opportunity to explore the world on his own, the way a year abroad can provide, or college. David is not likely to have those experiences. So, I think there is a hope that, especially because David’s business management is also his family, that he will be accorded the opportunity of some liberty.

I hear what everyone is saying and I really feel David is very fortunate to have a father that is so dedicated to his son’s dream. I’m sure alot of folks could debate Jeff’s motivation, at times I’ve questioned that myself, but one thing I think is clear, he appears extremely knowledgeable when it comes to understanding David’s musical capabilities and what he can potentially do with them. I also get the distinct feeling that, when in a rare quandary, Jeff is the first person David will turn to, and trust, to get guidance on what direction he should take. I’ve never gotten the sense that David himself is annoyed with Jeff being around. I remember Jeff mentioning that he never worried about David that much because he was such a good kid.
I hope he sets his “good kid” free…

TOfan122- don’t think it was a curveball, but rather part of the marketing plan
for all who thought image was unimportant…. seems that TPTB were concerned with market image after all. David’s mini image-reinvention and damage control of the Disney debacle has kicked into gear after only a few days… skilled product placement… present your iCarly, HM, BAB, and Disney image in time for the AI thing at Disney… let the fan base that is inclined to eat this up rejoice…the other half will need paddles, but we will announce our UK tour in time to save them. The Disneyesque David will be seen by them as an anomaly, an act-of-goodwill-to-kids-because-he’s-such-a-good-guy….they’ll all google and both sides will be placated… for the time being.
kudos… From what I read on some of McFly’s comments they will eat him alive not eat him up were he to perform with a Disney image. I dare say that David will be bringing his more mature self to the UK stage…….

Wonderland Tour 2005 – Live in Machester
“McFly have progressed from being the band I was embarassed to buy the singles, to a band that i will totally defend. Seeing this dvd has just reassured me that there is no shame….”
They write their own materials – so that is good for David. Am sure he will take away alot from this experience
Woo-hoo!!!!!!
Sampling from one of their songs: The Last Song
So here’s to all the lonely hearts
Cause mine’s been ripped and torn apart
I’m colder now, it’s getting dark
But I’ll be OK
Bury me with my guitar
And all the way to hell I’ll play
If this is the last song I’ll ever sing
Then I’m giving it everything
I’m giving it all.
From Disney to a band inclined to do nekkid stuff on stage and a drummer who shaed a past with Lindsay Lohan — LMAO now!

Hi BJ and Kizzi, I haven’t watched any of the McFly vids yet, only saw that one pix of the mighty buff and lean guys! I am actually never concerned about David deviating from what’s at the core of his spiritual beliefs because he is strong (not that I have any opinion one way or another right now about what McFlyers do), but I was just imagining David’s possible discomfort with some of the wildness on or behind stage, just like the time that Boys Like Girls guy started talking about bodily functions, etc while doing a mock interview with David. It is such a different world from his. No doubt it is good to be exposed to new experiences and I’m sure he can always take away things that will inspire him in songwriting in the future! I know he is ready for travelling and experiencing new things.

Snarky’s has gotten some info on Mcfly see rascal’s post #19, which the snarky’s girls found hilarious..but not sure if they think the poster was J/K..cuz you know how their minds work over there..like some geniuses..they are a little quirky & a little weird, kinda like David.
Also went to McFlys MySpace page..the comments about David..range from Who? to Don’t care, to Yeah I like him.

“A ninety-minute set full of frantic guitar riffs, high-energy drumming and plenty of cheeky showmanship from four boys eager to entertain.
The music?
Well, that seemed almost inconsequential to the people I witnessed screaming non-stop at Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd.
ads clearly used to hoards of wipped-up teenage girls almost drowning out their music with hysterical crys of “oh my god! It’s McFly” and “I love you!”.
That and avoiding pants being thrown on stage by those – including mums – who could clearly multi-task in all the frenzied excitement.
In between, the band managed to blast out a highly quality range of work, featuring an eclectic mix of old favourites such as ‘Room on the Third Floor’ and new songs, including ‘Stargirl’.
Their forthcoming tune – ‘Baby’s Coming Back’ – a cover of a Jellyfish song, notable for Danny’s expert vocals and Dougie’s prowess on his pink glittery guitar.
An acoustic version of ‘All about You’ with just Tom (on piano) and Danny (on guitar) even managed to hush the 3,000 strong crowd for all of three minutes.
A rare quiet moment the boys took advantage of to ask the audience what they should play next: Ghostbusters, Fight for the Right or Don’t Stop Me Now (Queen cover).
A defeaning chorus of approval for ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ the cue for normal service to be resumed.
A wall of sound that only ended when the McFly finished the night with the track that made them famous – a rendition of their first hit, Five Colours In Her Hair.
And even I was screaming by then. Danny’s so cute, you know!”
SF- since this was 2007, AKA before David, were you the mum throwing her pants on stage? come on confess…..

OK, this whole thing has me a little, how can I put this?
Insanely excited now about the solo tour! I mean I was excited before but…David Archuleta__the guy touring with Mcfly the following month. Yeahah baby! Why does this do something for me? OMG, I think I’m gonna need, really need, may actually pack a paper bag to breathe in when he brings the hunkerdowns and stomping and look aways with the sweat making his adorable hair all wet… Am I wrong to feel this way? Anybody else getting the same sweet vibe? Is it a reaction from all that sugary icarly, disney candy suddenly taken from me?

OMG, I think I have just lost my mind. I’m going to be getting off a cruise in Barcelona on May 3 and I am seriously thinking of going to the Ipswich date. I looked at the cost to fly over and its only $171.
OMG, I don’t know what to do. My friends on this cruise with me are not happy about taking this little side trip. My roommate is like, “I soooo have to think about this.” She doesn’t like AI or David. (how is that frakking possible?)
CHENSON HELP! How is Ipswich? Is it pretty safe if I went by myself? I would fly into Heathrow and hopfully not get lost driving to Lpswich.
David, what are you doing to me. I have lost what little sanity I had. You know, flying to the mainland by yourself is one thing (they’ll be Archies there); flying from one european country to another when you’ve never been to Europe before is just crazy. RIGHT? and they drive on the wrong side of the road too. dang it!

Oh, my. An education for David. I do love this: “For whatever reason, strict piety and great art have never proven to be terribly compatible. ”
My 26-year-old son is home this weekend. He spent a year in London studying. I asked him if he wanted to go to the UK in April or May and he said he’d go. Oh, my, will I do it?
Then my husband told him, “Your mother is going to Buffalo to see David in March. She will either come back with an “I Love David” tatoo or never come home again.” I love my husband – what a cool dude who always indulges me with my David madness and with good humor, too!

happy191 — I don’t know, but I do know that it would have been one thing to have a band that celebrates nudity and partying and grand ‘ol good times, but it is quite another that there is a decidedly gay sensibility to it. Naturally, I think this is brilliant, if only from a marketing perspective (the choruses of “hot!” from many of McFly’s male fans posting on their boards after checking out David have already begun), but this aspect will really convince the wingnuts that David will be surrounded by devils.

Good night all!
For David..I still have to post the prayer..and will continue to do so, until rascal tells me different..
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his Archangels do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David and HIS VOICE healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
Amen.
Sweet dreams! Be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!

How many LOL moments have I had just catching up on the latest with NDers!
After a long, stressful, sad, and anxious day, I couldn’t go to bed without checking back in, and what do I find?
A giddy Rascal, Happy getting happy, and videos of a British group I’ve never heard of and already think, “these guys are waaaay cool! The British humor and the gigantic b—s (no pun intended) to do their gay shtick with such wit and audaciousness.” They’re like the Monkees – the Next Generation or something! With a bit of Benny Hill Show thrown in. ha ha!
I’m loving them already and so excited for David to be sharing a stage with them. (David’s gonna love the UK – hope he gets to see a whole lot of London – I love that city).
So many life lessons for David, who tends to take everything literally. He’ll be growing up fast (at least Kathy Griffen initiated him a bit), and I concur with Tess that it would be really really cool if Jeff stayed behind. But you know he’s not gonna, and not that I blame him. Would you stay behind if you got a chance to travel with David on a tour of England?
Thanks for the laughs, everyone (and for the condolences for those of you who gave them).
G’nite all!

I’m just going to be brave and say this. Thoughts at the end of a giddy day:
At first I was all excited and happy for David. Great I thought – he gets to travel to England and open for this cool young English band. Then I learned a bit about the band and I thought, great, they are a bit out-there and this will be fun. And then I learned a bit more and I’m seeing that they are really REALLY out there and I just don’t know. I’m wondering how this will all play out. I realize that it’s all in fun and it’s all a shtick, and I’m sure there is an English sensibility that is eluding me, but their whole scene is light-years away from David’s world.
Here’s my question: how will audiences that come for McFly respond to David?
Isn’t there anything in between Hannah Montana and McFly?
No tomatoes please!

Kizzi, we usually don’t scream during songs. We sing along, at least at adult concerts (ok, so there was screaming from start to finish at the Take That concert I was at – during their first career, LOL, yes I’m old, hahaha!). I have been to uncountable concerts, and there never was screaming during the singing like I experienced at concerts in the USA. We scream in between songs, if at all. It’s more like cheering, hollering, clapping your hands wildly LOL – the energy levels are crazy intense. It’s awesome! David will love it!
As for the concerns about McFly being “out there” – well, this is Europe. We are very open about stuff like that, we kinda don’t care (of course we also have some haters here) we just enjoy the music. The last German Idol was gay (and very very out there, too, LOL), our last runner-up was gay and even married to a man and still made it to the finale. UK is just as open. We have Elton John and had the great Freddy Mercury… If David wants to be accepted here as more than a teenie-popstar with a nice voice, if he wants to be seen as the singer-songwriter, in a league with the ubercool Bedingfield-siblings, someone who appeals to more than teenaged girls, if he wants to be an American import added to the European pop culture he has to show that he is open, non-judgemental and doesn’t care if you’re gay or bi or hetero (and from what I’ve seen how he treats his gay American fans, he doesn’t care. There was absolutely zero difference in his treatment.). Just because McFly might rip off their shirts during their show, it doesn’t mean they’ll make David do the same. LOL (now that’s a disturbing mental image LOL)
Besides, I think David gets a thrill out of meeting people who are so different from him. I mean look at his friendship with Lady Gaga. And how he always says this or that person is “so cool, because they’re so different”.
Gosh, people here will go nuts over “Works For Me” and “Touch My Hand” and if he’ll sing “Angels” he better prepare to get overpowered by a 3K-5K-choir LOL! And “Somebody Out There” will slay us. Gosh! I can’t wait!

Im loving this talk as if McFly are devils and do obscene things on stage, it makes me giggle. McFly arent bad, they just act like mischievious little boys, like most other british teenagers/young adults. Its just what we are like, more open and free but trust me, there is a lot worse that could happen up there on stage or even backstage too haha.
The thing I gotta remind you all of, even if they are like that, their primary audience is essentially the same as Davids. Thats why Davids management hooked them up with these guys and I think he will go down really well. David has this ability of blowing people away live, some who didnt even like him before. There will be plenty of impressed people there.
It will be an experiance for him no doubt, but seriously, McFly arent all that rebellious and I think David is more resiliant to his morals and less judgmental than you might to think.

Annie245: Great information. I am definitely going to a couple of the UK concerts – probably Edinburgh and London (the venue is awesome) and hmmm…nothing in Wales–isn’t that where the McFly guys are from. And, the European audiences’ participation to David’s music, well, I have to experience that because that is just how I react…ah…to be in the middle of that would be bliss!
chenson246: Chris, aren’t you lovin’ all this and in your backyard too! You so believe in his artistry and future–I love that. Ya’ know we Americans can be so “unsophisticated” at times–lol. I love that David gets a chance to sing to broader audiences—and, yeah, he is so non-judgmental he will sail right into the hearts of his yet to be international fans just like he did ours!

Chenson247- no one here has “talked as if McFly are devils”…quite the opposite. We are learning about them a little at a time and have certainly yet to determine if the are or if they aren’t. We recognize the difference between essence and image but many people don’t…that is the whole point of the last several threads.
The image of mischievious little boys setting their crotches on fire is a lasting one and there will be fans who will react to it, just as some of us reacted to the iCarly, HM, BAB, and lunchbox images. You can’t have it both ways…either image matters in marketing or it doesn’t…some of us happen to think image does matter and we have been admonished and insulted for that belief for the last few days. It is petty perhaps, but it is hard to refuse that sometimes it is fun to watch “what goes around comes around.”
As far as the McFly audience liking David, I have ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT that they will love him after/while they experience his performance. Whether they go in to that concert expecting to like him is another story…. that my dear, will depend somewhat on which google images THEY find more of…. Lunchbox David or Hunkerdown David. Having to overcome the image some of McFly’s fans may have going in is the very concern expressed here for the last several days. And it is only a concern if McFly’s authentic teen demographics are David’s primary audience….
….And all of this after only a couple of months of goofy teen heartthrob images. What would/will years of stuffed puppy photos do to his credibility and would/will he be expected to set HIS crotch on fire to alter the image? Nobody wants that…hence the concern expressed on the last couple of threads.
…just sayin’….and still smilin’….

Good morning all! I’m posting from an Amtrak train on my way to the city – taking care of some business before I head overseas next week.
i decided, during this down time to check back into my favorite place … and elsewhere.
Something occurred to me, while learning about McFly and seeing a fairly positive response to David from McFly fans who wanted to know about The Voice.
It goes back to marketing David. I believe many of us gave Jive a hard time because they have specialized, not only in producing very young music artists, but also in “growing” them. I had no doubt in my mind, when they first released Crush as David’s premiere single and then produced a debut album that covered a wide range of pop sounds – teeny bop tunes to mature ballads to angsty emo ditties (like Desperate) – that Jive was intending to “grow” David from his very young teen debut to a more mature young adult artist.
Hence, why I joined with others in crying foul. Jive, who specializes in growing their young artists, seemed to be regressing in the past few days, and I certainly didn’t think they were doing David any favors.
During our debate, many admitted that David is still considered “too young” to be cool among his peers, hence the strategy to market him to the 10 year olds. Hence all the handwringing and gnashing of teeth that occurred here recently.
Now this news of David touring with an edgy pop boy band from the UK, and I’m back to the “schizophrenic” feel of his marketing.
But then, once I glimpsed a few comments of the McFly fans over there, who had never heard of David and, when youtubing him and discovering his myspace, are 1) excited that he “looks seriously hot” and 2) pleased with his music, I can’t help but think this is yet a test to see if David has potential to be taken seriously as a young (not “childlish” or even “teen”) music artist.
What is pleasantly calming to me about some of McFly fan reactions is that they don’t have the lens of American Idol to interpret David. So, just going on his looks and his musical talent, they can give him a chance and see if he’s any good when they go to the McFly tour. I absolutely cannot wait for David to slay them with a live performance of “Angels” (if he’s smart, he’ll include this among his performances over there).
If the Brits react positively to David, Jive/Azoff might then develop another strategy to earn him some “cool” points over here. In the mean time, I guess we get Disney David in America, while Europe gets the serious artist.
I’m positive the Brits will really like David. Unlike Americans, Europeans get eccentricity, so David not conforming to a particular idea of cool would not be a setback. And seeing that David never brings up his faith, is very tolerant and open-minded, and just such a lovely sweet guy all around, I see David conquering his foreign peers on a larger scale than I guess he would over here.
This is really exciting. I wonder if he’s got any summer tour plans coming up? Now is the time to experience David Live, it seems!

David has no reputation over here so the only image that matters is the one that David brings to the stage. McFly, although setting fire to their crotches now, where very much a disney-esque pop band when they started out but as they have grown older as people, so has their image, which is the point ive been making about David all along (although David wont ever set his crotch on fire, would be funny though).
Ive been to tons of gigs of all different genres and there has only ever been to 1 gig where the opening acts reception has been based on a preconceived notion and thats because the artist was mismatched with the headlining act. David wont have that as he is unknown here, what he has is a chance to impress to a group of people who are very much likely to be his fans over here.
I also hope he does some TV promotion for his album here too.

chenson257- I think you continue to miss the point I am making because you are confusing the present with the future… you say, “David has no reputation over here so the only image that matters is the one that David brings to the stage”…. that is true now, but what if we were talking, say 2 years from now, and his reputation over by you is that of preadolescent, smiling, J-14, stuffed puppy, David…. then what? crotch fires were the very thing necessary for McFly to turn their own image.
you make my point…NOW he is free to earn respect through his art over by you… let him earn his reputation through his art in the US too… not by entertaining and pandering to 10 year olds…
so, I guess we are actually in agreement…
really, really go to go now….

HG, I’m always enlightened when reading your interpretation of David’s career. Thanks. I think this is great news for his future. We, in the U.S. aren’t near as liberal as Europe. My sister-in-law lives in France, and has for most of her adult life. Her and her French husband, (2nd one, no less!), are a riot! They both are so open about things we would “shudder” to even think about!

Great point, Happy! Archangel48, one of the reasons I think we here in America usually have a hard time being more open is the dichotomous, schizophrenic splits our culture makes. We go from Disneyesque extremes of innocence to excessive porn culture. We offer no continuum that enables us to gradually move from childlike innocence to adult expereince. Neither stage is treated openly and honestly since childhood isn’t always innocent and adulthood isn’t always about experience.
Why else do we think people have a hard time accepting that “innocent” never-been-kissed David could be powerfully sexy at the same time – without resorting to some kind of pedophilic fixation on childlike innocence? David represents that complexity that I think we should be able to embrace and celebrate.
As it stands, American culture likes things simple – you’re either Disney or you’r'e edgy, you’re either black or you’re white, you’re either “whitebread” or you’re “multiculti ethnic” (funny that David is BOTH! ha ha!).
What can I say? I love David’s eccentricities. And I hope Europe will too!
Anyway, looks like my stop is coming up so have to shut this down.
Have a great weekend and Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!

I’m up early (early for me on a Sat) and will be gone a good chunk of the day so I’m skipping over some of the comments so I can say a few things. First, davidfanLIZ 245, thank you for having the guts to express your concerns during this happy let’s all get giddy phase because I got alarmed myself reading McFly fan comments about how wild things get on and backstage. I was only concerned for David thinking back to the time during the group number at the AI tour when Cook threw some panties at him. It was funny but he looked horrified.
But I am so glad and I’m sure LIZ would feel a bit or or very relieved to hear comments from AnniefromtheEU 246 and Chenson 247 giving us their take on things. I imagine also typically comments from young fans can take on a tone of bravado describing shocking things that go on backstage and how David would take the first flight home after 2 minutes with McF (their words).
So thanks AnniefromtheEU and Chenson for your more sober or truer picture of how they are. I don’t doubt you guys are “freer” in many respects than Americans (I myself went to a French school most of my childhood so I know it’s different) and it’s really great to know that McFly fanbase is probably similar to David’s and therefore will react to David similarly.
As far as David goes, I love the fact that he is completely non-judgmental and since the freer expression of self and the lack of censorship that’s more the norm in Europe is all part of what Europe is about, it is terrific for David to get this great opportunity (and so soon in his career) to experience something new and very different from his own world. McFly fans had me worried for awhile there.
I also saw Kizzi’s comments 248, wow, lucky you going to 2 concerts!! I would love to hear about how the audience will receive David. David wins fans singing live and his charismatic self is sure to charm a lot of people.

Hi davidfanLIZ! Now I have to run off, but I’m getting very excited for David and his future. I still hope to see David paired with something more in-between the two extremes – iCarly/Miley/HM and McFly – at some point. I’m sure his management is working on it. That’s why I reserved to comment in the last few days on the marketing strategy for David. We know close to nothing. I prefer to see it unfold than to go on and on hand wringing. Hi everyone! Such exciting news about McFly! Honestly I was depressed yesterday AM about that Miley news and doing some self examination about why that had impacted me so as I headed to work.
Like others have indicated, I think that David is very open minded to different, edgy and new.
Also, IMO, no one holds him back in any manner with any personal or social choices. I mean his dad is a jazz musician and his mother a dancer, with cool latin roots. I would imagine they have been a number of clubs through their years, and been involved with various show biz people, with a very diverse backgrounds. Clearly he was raised in his
faith, he has very strong convictions about who he is, his conduct, while not being judgemental of others. Gosh that is one of the things I have admired him so very much. I don’t have to work in the tough world of show biz, but I think we all try to keep ones core values and treat people with respect, and maintain our integrity
while still doing our respective jobs, what ever they may
be.
Chemson: I enjoy your perspective and posts and am glad you do not have to part with any body parts this time you see David.
Since the Miley duo was dependent on timing, let’s hope there is not time. I cannot even see how those voices would remotely go together
Wish I was 22, and could follow McFly and David over England.

Good morning, everyone!
Keep in mind that by the time the UK tour kicks off, David will have had two months of touring in the U.S. and Asia under his belt. So — hopefully — instead of iCarly and Disney vids and photos, the McFly folks will be inundated by the sound and images of David on stage. If the Philippines shows happen as rumored, all signs point toward huge crowds and pandemonium. ALTNOY is No. 1 there, I believe.
In the two months from the beginning to end of the AI tour, we all noticed quite a transformation in David from hesitant and tongue-tied church singer to confident showman. I can’t wait to see even further growth as an all-round entertainer when he’s the main attraction. I believe we can count on David to take a few risks and blow us — and the Brits — away yet again.

Running out for the day, have done my morning posting and lurking.
I do find it interesting how DIFFERENT each of David’s fan sites are and where the emphasis is placed. The poor BAB site is being inundated (so says one Fansite) and apparently is having major difficulties keeping up with the requests for the special song. Silly me, I didn’t know that this was a contest…I really thought it was a charity donation.
I’m not belittling the campaign or the enthusiastic fans that want to support David, just reinforcing the fact that David’s appeal is so very difficult to pinpoint and that his fanbase is so diverse.
Still trying to figure out what I can sell to see DA tour the British Isles. I haven’t been there for over 40 years…got my hair cut like Twiggys the last time. What a great vacation it would be….a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I’m very excited for David and this new adventure he is going to start. Sorry guys, I’m sure Jeff will be going with him, but what’s funny is that some think Jeff is a prude or something. Remember, he’s a jazz trumpet player and has been in the club seen. He’s letting go, little by little. David needs to experience life, but David will do it his way. David is in control of his own life. I do have to say, I like the direction this is going though. I was getting a little worried about all the teen idol stuff. I think David just really wants to be treated like a serious artist. Oh, and as for the comments about “thumpers”….call me whatever you want to call me…I love God and I’m proud of it!
