In the Light

Dwelling in kindness, a monk
with faith in the Awakened One’s teaching,
would attain the good state,
the peaceful state:
stilling-of-fabrications ease.
Monk, bail out this boat.
It will take you lightly when bailed.
Having cut through passion, aversion,
you go from there to Unbinding.

HI RASCAL!
hm … “stilling-of-fabrications ease.”
hm… “… to Unbinding”
(Dang, translations can be HELL …lol.)
Ok, so David dwells in kindness. Check. He moz def has the “good state” thang down pat. His reward is living with the ease that one who is free of “fabrications” (pretense) enjoys. He certainly cuts through passion (as in undue drama, that is) …
and goes to …
unbinding?
(ok, wait…unbinding as in free from the bindings that burden most ordinary bozos…)
(oh yeah… and sails off into the sunset in his cute little archu_boat…)
lol… ok, I’m done. I’m going for coffee now. bye.

rascal.. That photo..shows total tranquility, peace of mind, heart & soul. It’s a look of love..for his life & gifts which he’s able to share with no expectations of anything in return..like he’s content with just “giving of himself”. I’ve seen other photos of David like this..It’s like he’s thinking..this is what I was born to do and he’s filled with bliss. He epitomizes purity of mind and body..it’s good..very good and I’m crying now so..I can’t go on.

What I saw in Gainseville was Jeff working He was the one that apprached the manager and proposed they move David for the M &G….. I am telling you I was worried the set up they had with David on that little porch and the fans packed like sardines to see him in a not so big area and winding up and down two sets of stairs. I had visions of a fire and stampede or the whole top deck coming down. I honestly moved myself & my daughter out because it was not safe It was smart and after David was moved downstairs, the line was much more orderly.
As far as him standing there, it was this bizarre tiny little porch, wtih the fans packed in the main area. Another outside porch the fans were on- outside and inside steps. The camerman was set up and the DJ and the electronics equipment. I think it probalby about the only place to stand and be available if needed. I saw a manager doing his job.
I do hear everyone about appearances. I think if there had not been all that hoopla on AI, we would not be having this discussion, but I guess PR is everything in the tough world of Show Biz- and not necessarily the truth.
Just my observations. I am not immume from being wrong to be sure. The older I get, the less I know.
At any rate, intereresting about that other blogger who was there. I was surprised the M & G got through. It was beyond insane- but I will stand in the rain to hear David any time.
I did hear him on AI tour, but this was better. That voice, so close, I am that red blur at the bottom of the white banister.

I’m taking the risk of offense here, but I think this fits the subject at hand. The following is a list that describes the impact a person living from Spirit has on the people around him/her. I think that the list describes our David quite well.
He/She:
1. instills calmness.
2. leaves others feeling energized.
3. allows others to feel better about themselves.
4. allows others to feel unified with everyone else,
with nature, with God.
5. instills a sense of purpose.
6. allows others to trust in authentic personal connections.
7. inspires others to greatness.
8. aligns others with beauty.
9. instills health rather than sickness.
(”Living from Spirit” may not be exactly as everyone would describe this state. Others may describe it as someone who lives from the Holy Spirit, or as someone who is on the path to enlightenment, or as someone who is connected to intention. The words aren’t important, in my mind they’re all pretty much referring to the same experience.)

OK folks….I’m taking a stab at this …and no, Rascal, I didn’t just smoke a doobie….
Dwelling in kindness, a monk…
David’s extremely kind nature is rare, thus isolating, similar to a monk’s existence.
with faith in the Awakened One’s teaching,
would attain the good state…
He believes in what he’s been taught religiously and that we can end up in a good place because of it.
stilling-of-fabrications ease…
That his confidence in this belief will quell any doubts…
Monk, bail out this boat…
David, help us with your knowledge, to keep our boats from sinking…
It will take you lightly when bailed….
When we unburden ourselves of the excess weight we will be lighter of heart
Having cut through passion, aversion…
having gotten past the restrictions and confines of some of our human emotions..
you go from there to Unbinding….
we can move forward without judgement…
OK….Where are those brownies?????

Let’s see….
The photo. To me David seems to be filled with a love so pure and sweet it is almost palpable. It pulsates from within him and radiates from his eyes. He seems at this moment in time to be in a peaceful, serene state filled with joy. He has just been singing.
The poem.
Dwelling in kindness, a monk (that’s David)
with faith in the Awakened One’s teachings (he has great faith in a diety that he follows the teachings of)
would attain the good state,
the peaceful state:
stilling-of-fabrications ease.
(attainment of the good or peaceful state is arrived at by putting away or to rest fabrications, ie; lies, pretense,
or guile.)
Monk, bail out this boat.
it will take you lightly when bailed.
(he must discard some things that burden him and in doing so will move forward)
Having cut through passion, aversion,
( Webster’s dictionary describes passion as
1. the passion of Christ.
2.suffering
3.the state or being acted on by agents or external forces.
4. emotion or intense drive
5. ardent affection or sexual desire.
and aversion as
1. the act of turning away or avoiding something one finds repugnant.
(To cut through both passion and aversion is to move beyond both what attracts and repells.)
you go from there to Unbinding.
(he moves toward freedom and autonomy and power.)

Has anyone ever seen an expression on a face of an 18 year old like the one in this picture?I haven’t. This is the charisma I spoke about in the previous thread. Truly spiritual people never talk about how spiritual they are. They just are, and people are drawn to them for reasons that can not really be explained or understood. David has a whole other thing going on within him. He is spiritually no different today than he would have been if the judges had lost their minds and sent him home after his first audition. Events do not determine his inner state.
In the ’80s, a friend got me involved in Siddha Yoga, which is a yoga based on a philosohy of life rather than body positioning. (Hey, it was the ’80s. Give me a break)
The head guru was a young woman who was very peaceful, loving, and joyous, and spoke in common sense language about “life”. I found it very grounding and peaceful to listen to her, regardless of what she was talking about. I get a similar feeling when I listen to David sing , talk, or, in the case of the recent video of him walking and eating, doing anything. It’s the energy that surrounds him and that he shares so easily with everyone that makes him who he is. The singing is the medium he uses to share his gift, and the singing is so beautiful because it is an extension of his inner state, which is untarnished and pure.
A young girl once referred to David as her “new crack”, to which David responded “well, I guess it’s better than the real thing.” Everyone laughs at their ODD, but if it takes the place of other negative emotional and mental states , it sure is a better condition to have. Every time you feel overwhelmed by this world or the events in your personal life, watch David in a video, or think about him, or hum one of his songs. During the time you are doing that, all negativity is blocked. To quote David, it “Works for Me”

Iamblisskasden , love this “Truly spiritual people never talk about how spiritual they are. Good night everyone!
David looked good today in the vids..a little tired maybe, but very good!
Dear Lord, Though we are unworthy to ask,
Please take Care Of David. Watch over him, Protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that is thrown in his path. Give David the courage and guidance to say no to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround David with loving and supportive people who love him UNCONDITIONALLY as we, his ARCHANGELS do. Separate David from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he’s weary. Give him stamina to sustain his hectic pace. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep David healthy & strong as he fulfills his Destiny which was written in his Book of Life before he was born.
Though we may be unworthy, we humbly pray.
Amen.
Sweet dreams! Be safe & secure in our love always! Take care. You will always be numero uno in our eyes! Thank you for all you do and for just being you!

“He is a tree watered by the River of Beauty,
Bearing fruit which the hungry heart craves;
He is a nightingale,
Soothing the depressed spirit with his beautiful melodies;
He is a white cloud appearing over the horizon,
Ascending and growing until it fills the face of the sky.
Then it falls on the flowers in the field of Life,
Opening their petals to admit the light.
He is an angel…”

Excerpt of summary of David’s talk at the fireside. Post 753-Paula at the FOD site.
Paula says: February 3rd, 2009 at 11:00 pm
“… Some of the youth in our Stake had written down some questions for him. He thanked everyone for coming and he sang Be Still My Soul and told us why that’s one of his favorite songs. …. Then he started answering the questions. As he would read and answer the questions he talked about challenges and how the Lord is there for us to help us get through hard times (sharing some of his experiences on American Idol that were difficult times for him); he talked about how our plans for our life are not always the Lords plans (ending up on American Idol and the way his life is now); he talked about how important his family is to him and how much he loves them and appreciates his parents and that even though they can be annoying sometimes (siblings) that he loves them so much and misses his siblings when he’s away; he talked about how he loves to go to Seminary; he talked about how important prayer is to him and how he prays before his performances; he talked about the fact that even with his very busy and difficult schedule he had when he was on American Idol that somehow he always found time to read his scriptures everyday. He closed the fireside with I Know That My Redeemer Lives. He spoke from about 6:30 – 8:10.”

Awwww Rascal, you sure know how to pick a winner
I adore JONER’s interpretation (#30) & DAVIDLIZ post (#19). And am laughing here like a loco over JESSEQ’s post (#60). Haha.
From the mundane to the sublime — that’s our ND! Looooove it.
RE THE PHOTO — I find David’s countenance here perfectly capturing his “in-the-zone” moment : when he commands his faculties to go into that special place, tunes out all external variables and zero in on the source of his light/energy.
I agree with what BLISS wrote: “It’s the energy that surrounds him and that he shares so easily with everyone that makes him who he is. The singing is the medium he uses to share his gift, and the singing is so beautiful because it is an extension of his inner state, which is untarnished and pure.
Conscious or not that he is sharing that special energy, I think that David cannot help it. He simply radiates with it. So like a moth to a flame, we are drawn to him. We get re-energized and in turn, we re-create that positive vibe in our own little sphere of influence, personal or otherwise.
Isn’t this what we all have been going through, at varying levels and degrees?
What makes it more interesting ( at least to me) is when that special energy becomes purposeful – like his singing. The experience is like no other. Mind blowing. Heart tugging. Unforgettable. Unexplainable. Words fail cos it is always, more….
The joy, the serenity that we glimpse from this photo I believe comes from the satisfaction of spirit, which could only come from knowing. And I refer to David’s eyes for this. Those are knowing eyes. What he knows, he puts into good use. He uses his power aright and he finds that to be his best security. Serene. At peace.
But his wisdom is not simply of the mind. I believe that David’s wisdom dwells in his heart. Hence, our inescapable, inexplicable connection.
These are the ties that bind from one that is Unbinding. What a journey!

AND A NEW SONG, A BONUS TRACK IN THE JAPANESE ALBUM EDITION which goes out on Feb 25
* 1)Save The Day
* 2)Crush Remix Version
“ボーナストラックは” must mean bonus track. tee-hee
Someone at IDF posted that the Jap version will be diff in the ff sense:
Original album jacket sticker,
video clip for cell phone, ( its like a ring tone. whenever you get a call, cell phone is playing that video clip)
Enhanced crush music video,
Translated lyrics booklet,
and maybe…some letter written by David.
They’ll change the album cover, too.
Oh one more thing, on ASCAP, Kara Dioguardi also co-wrote a song named Save the Day but am not sure it is the same song. Thalia performed it

Lovely picture. Thanks Rascal, and David. Sandy Beaches if you manage to find this post, I just wanted to add that this is indeed a photo of David from his Sacramento jingle ball concert. And if I’m not mistaken, he’s singing You Can. Here’s a link to the video in case you missed it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO_Q-glP9yE.
This is one of my many favorite David moments, and I keep coming back to this video over and over. The look in his eyes and the expression on his face while he’s singing is just magic…he has an ease about him yet there’s also an earnestness that just stops my heart. And oh yeah, he sounds gorgeous too.

lotus_b,
Thanks for pointing out that the photo was from the Sacramento Jingle and from You Can. I remember watching that video over and over and thinking that his voice was so amazing in it. But, the thing that really struck me was that his eyes almost topped the VOICE in that video. They just burned and glittered with so much fire and passion. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. Can’t watch now because I’m at work, but I’ll have to rewatch that when I get home.

Your so welcome Angelica! David’s eyes in that video really struck me as well and I often get lost in the song and find myself just staring into his eyes and at his face. As if I don’t most of the time…
Anyway, I hope you enjoy watching the performance again. It’s a wonderful reward at the end of a long work day!

lotus_b…thanks for the information in regards to the video. i watched it and it was great to see…
I wonder from all that is written if we are putting a lot of expectations on David? He once said that the expectations were building and that it makes him more nervous before performances.
I believe that he is wonderful and we are so lucky to have him in our lives but are we embarassing him possibly by placing him on a pedestal? Can we show our true feelings by being there without expectations? I know that we are protective and want the best but he is being protected and taken care of. I think that sometimes we don’t know all that surrounds a video and we see something that is not in place and we worry but give credit to David that he is incontrol…of course nothing is ever perfect in everyone’s eyes…
I would hope that we can put him at ease even if just for a moment…He wants to still be a young person and maybe it is a word to everyone, a hint, that with the older age comes the maturity. After all, he just said that he still likes comic books!!!
I’ll start ducking the tomatoes any time now…

One minute I’m crying watching the Sacramento version of You Can because he sings, well you know. Then I pop over to Snarkies and they have a clip of David freaking out when he here’s himself sing Jason Mraz’ I’m Yours recorded from earlier in his interview at the radio station and I’m ROFLMAO. Snarkies has an MP3 of his whole interview. Very funny, and archudorable

Yes….I saw that whole interview and he got to sing I’m Yours by Jason Mraz. FOD has the instruction on how to get the archive of that interview. He sang it so well…would make his idol proud. Too bad he did not finish it..would have made a lovely addition to my mp3 collection of David. Here’s how to get that interview:
David (somewhat surprisingly) appeared in-studio on WILD 95.5 in West Palm Beach this morning. There is video to be watched, but you’ll need to follow these directions. Becky is working on ripping it to post, but in the meantime here is what you need to do to watch it live.
Go to WILD 95.5 Webcam page
You will see this under the video. Click on “camera 2.”
A new screen will load. Along the bottom of the video screen you will see a little box that looks like this: This is the “archive” box. Click on it.
In the box where there is a time located, type in either 9:01 to see when David first gets on camera, or 9:38 to see the “I’m Yours” karaoke!!!! GOOO! He changes “da@* you’re free” to “THEN you’re free.” Well played.

I’m totally amazed, though why I should be, of the development of David that has happened during these radio gigs. I can remember a time that David was a “space case” (only in the nicest sense) when he was put in the hot seat.
Now, he really seems to be enjoying himself. Puts everything out there and really doesn’t seem to Give a dang about how he is perceived by the listening public. He really is comfortable, now, in his own skin. His vocabulary has improved, he is so much more relaxed, he loves laughing at himself, and most of all he isn’t afraid to be the “nerdy” kid we have all grown to love and admire.
Also, I can’t get over that he can sing a song (kareoke) without sheet music or hearing himself and that he is pitch perfect and note on. Wow, what a gift!

#73, 74, 75 – It has been many years since I thought about the old hymn, “Brighten the Corner Where You Are,” one of my long-departed dad’s favorites. That video of David freaking out when he hears himself sing Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” reminded me. I don’t think I have ever seen a better corner-brightener than David.

Sandy Beaches #72 – I completely agree with you. No tomatoes ever . . but I think we are expecting too much . . he just barely turned 18. In Mormon culture, that doesn’t mean a whole lot. They might go away to school for a semester or two, but then most boys go on a 2 year mission for the church at 19 yo. That’s when the boys seem to grow into men . . it doesn’t seem to go by how old he is. Just kind of a culture thing. David has said he doesn’t know if he’ll go on a regular church mission . . he’s already on a mission of sorts and has touched so many people . . but for most young men around here – they grow from boy to man on their missions. (19 – 21 yo)
About Jeff . . I think Jeff will fade away when it’s the right time. (Now I’m ducking the tomatoes.) The two times I’ve noticed him on the stage were at NYE – and it was full of all kinds of people, not just Jeff – the whole family and lots of friends were there and it was really casual.. . just a big party. Then on the “porch” in Florida . . and it looked to me like he was trying to find a corner, but there just wasn’t one. JMO
Rascal – LOVE LOVE LOVE this picture. It says it all!

Sneaking away from my pile of work (hey, gotta finance my ArchuAdventure Tour!) to catch up… too excited to work anyway… just got my Allentown tix in the mail…eeeeeeeeeeee!!! Sorry, having a moment.
Kizzi “this particular thread feels like a bubbling, thermal, salt spring full of heart, soul and the beyond,” sooo true! And samsfan ROTFL!
Nice to see you back JesseQ!
And thanks HG for the freestylin’ link… is there anything David cannot do? (Except drown in the pleasure of his own voice the way we all do?
)
