Peace. Love. Cred.

By rascal

I am thrilled for David that he will get an opportunity to broaden his horizons, but the two things I really like about the McFly tour are the clear indication that David’s management is not as narrow-minded and unimaginative as previous decisions might indicate, and the sheer showmanship of McFly as a terrific master class for David’s stage skills–not hoping for anything from David remotely like what the McFly boys do (that’s just ridiculous and creepy), but it’s an area where David has some room to evolve, and I suspect he will benefit handsomely from regular proximity to a bunch of rabble-rousing, freewheeling performers.

Although I remain deeply disappointed that money is winning every argument in decisions about the U.S. market, saddling David with image risks and compromises that could take years to undo, the international leg of his ‘09 tour is likely to have more of a positive impact on his image here than it might otherwise have, say, a decade ago, all because of our beloved Internet. News is fast and global, now, especially in entertainment, and the fact that David is touring with a band that has been favored on some of the smartest sites this side of Gawker–particularly and especially on gay sites (gay opinion is a powerful driver of what’s cool in the young-adult opinion-maker markets; I’ve said before that David would be wise to cultivate his appeal there)–is good news indeed.

I would still like to see more imagination in PR and marketing stateside. I’ve been asked a number of times to share my views on possible solutions, rather than just constantly playing Casandra, so, here goes. Music marketing is not my specialty, there are much more experienced folks than me to turn to on this, but off the top of my head, here are just a few ideas:

Surprise cameos at smart gigs. I am clueless as to who exactly these smart gigs would be, but I’m talking about up-and-coming performers, singer-songwriters, small combos, who are cultivating young adult audiences with a clear predilection for authentic, skilled, interesting music. The point of this is not to gain wide appeal or to sell albums but to generate buzz in the right quarters and seed the alternative press and blogosphere with a clear message that David Archuleta intends to be taken seriously as an artist and not just an American Idol alumnus with records to sell. Let David pick the gigs and a few acoustic songs. These smart, hipster audiences will be gleefully shocked at how impressed they are with him.

Surprise cameos on cool shows. The quickest and best way for David to become cool without sacrificing one iota of his already fabled conservatism is by making fun of himself. Appear suddenly in a skit on Saturday Night Live as a Boy Scout in the middle of a tawdry backstage party. This kind of thing writes itself. It’s easy. It’s hilarious. And it will confer upon David instant cool cred.

Artistic photography in fashionable magazines. David is gorgeous. Period, end of story. This should be celebrated and captured in beautifully artistic and interesting ways in publications like Paper Magazine and Arena Homme Plus. The reaction of the Elle Magazine readership is both utterly unsurprising and tangible proof for anyone blind enough to miss this.

Here’s the thing. None of these ideas are anything that David’s PR and management team don’t already know and haven’t done a million times before for other artists. David is undoubtedly being told that these strategies can be implemented later, once the kiddie market has been exploited. They’re probably telling him that he should in fact not engage such opportunities now, for fear that he would only have to repeat them later, and which would allegedly be harder to do.

Bull. The only reason they’re not doing them for David now is that they don’t provide instant cash by selling albums. They are part of a long-term strategy to build an image for David that will not only place him in a far better position to cultivate the audiences he deserves, but which will better reflect the full and true dimensional range of the man. David doesn’t yet have enough cred to get on the cover of Paper Magazine. But if they don’t start cultivating that direction soon, he may miss the chance altogether.

It’s easy, of course, to engage in armchair marketing. David’s people would be justified in their resentment and dismissal of those of us who constantly tweak their very able and, I suspect, for the most part well-intentioned noses with how things should be done. But David isn’t just any young new artist, and despite the fact that every über fan of every artist probably feels that way, even an objective reading of David’s attributes will reveal an extremely unique individual indeed. I hope David’s people can find it in their hearts to forgive us for blathering on about how much we care and how much we think we know.

We love him, that’s all.

Update:

After this emotional week and the controversies generated, I have come to the conclusion that my sensibilities may be too incongruous with the majority of the DA fan base at this point in his career, and that my own energies are needed elsewhere. I sincerely hope that my departure will not result in a preponderance of non-critical happy talk.

I want to extend my truest and heartfelt thanks to the warm, brilliant, hilarious, and remarkable people who have made notingDavid such a rich source of engagement and entertainment. I sincerely hope that we have been able to add some measure of support and worthy perspective to the evolution of David’s career.

Mostly I want to thank David for being such a remarkable source of… well, everything. Life itself, sometimes. Despite the opinion that so many have of me, I have not one scintilla of desire for David to be anything other than who he is and what he chooses to be. My hopes for him are whatever his hopes for himself are.

I will leave the comments open for another few days, and then close them. The site will remain up, and folks may communicate with me if they wish thereafter through the contact form.

Let’s not overanalyze this, it’s just time for a break. Many other duties call. If, at some point in the future, David’s career has matured to a degree where my own sensibilities may not be as antithetical to what most perceive as his best interests, perhaps I may jump into the fray once again. I leave with no hard feelings for those who oppose me, no regrets for anything I have said, yet with a sincere sense of sorrow for the beloved regulars who consider this place home.

It has all been for one, glorious, shining purpose:

The miracle that is David Archuleta.

Until we meet again,
Rascal

Agree completely, rascal – Well said, as usual.

Reposting the following from the end of the last thread: Good morning, everyone!

Keep in mind that by the time the UK tour kicks off, David will have had two months of touring in the U.S. and Asia under his belt. So — hopefully — instead of iCarly and Disney vids and photos, the McFly folks will be inundated by the sound and images of David on stage. If the Philippines shows happen as rumored, all signs point toward huge crowds and pandemonium. ALTNOY is No. 1 there, I believe.

In the two months from the beginning to end of the AI tour, we all noticed quite a transformation in David from hesitant and tongue-tied church singer to confident showman. I can’t wait to see even further growth as an all-round entertainer when he’s the main attraction. I believe we can count on David to take a few risks and blow us — and the Brits — away yet again.

This is why I neglect my real life. It really is just too much fun here. Look at what we’ve shared in the past few days: depths of despair over the cotton-candy stickiness of HM, giddiness over the McFly guys who have an apparent penchant for setting body parts on fire, and now the steady, clear-headed thoughts of a vision for David’s future marketing. It’s never dull here.

ND rocks!

Oh, I found the Philippines music charts, and David dominates them:

Awwww, Rascal. love the post.

THIS.

And I love you & ND, that’s all.

Caseydog, thank you for posting that. With the flurry of concerns in the last 3 threads, I wasn’t able to share that yeah, ALTNOY is doing really well here. Better in fact than CRUSH — and to think that the ALTNOY video hasn’t hit major airplay yet that was enjoyed by CRUSH, which peaked at #2 in the Top100 here.

Luck is not ‘Little’ for David Archuleta

After his smash No. 2 hit “Crush”,which spent five non-consecutive weeks at No. 2 without reaching number-one, David Archuleta has finally topped the Philippines Hot 100 with his second-single “A Little Too Not Over You.”

‘Little’ inches 2-1, making the American Idol Alum the youngest artist to top the Hot 100. The take-over is due to the increasing airplay in the rural stations and the huge airplays in the urban stations.

Back on the Hot 100, aside from Archuleta, Taylor Swift also ….

David Archuleta and Taylor Swift will Rule in the Hot 100

Teen superstars David Archuleta and Taylor Swift will soar on the Philippines Hot 100 to be posted tomorrow evening with “A Little Too Not Over You” at No. 1 and “Love Story” at No. 2.

The take over of both songs was due to the strong airplays on the urban stations and the rising airplays on the rural stations.

‘Little’ will become Archuleta’s highest-peaking single and his first No. 1 single on the Hot 100. Archuleta will rank as the youngest singer to top the Hot 100, which is currently owned by Chris Brown.

Meanwhile, Swift’s ‘Story’ will continue rising after a big leap to No. 5 last week. Aside from the first single from Fearless, her follow-up, “White Horse”, will also rise this week. This is Swift’s most successful era yet on the Hot 100 since she only placed only one song last year on the chart, and only peaked at No. 6.”

erin4david from the previous thread — by “thumpers” I certainly don’t mean the faithful. Personally, I believe in a greater intelligence, I think it’s narcissistic to assume we’re the top of the intelligence chain (God forbid!). What I mean are those who will laud their own personal beliefs over the beliefs and behaviors of others, those of righteous indignation for whom condemnation comes before compassion; the holier-than-thou crowd, of which there is a definite contingent that is part of this fan base.

Some interesting points there rascal.

I guess that is the unforuntate thing about the commercial music industry, especially one in turmoil. So much of it is about just making that quick buck and getting immediate return. That is the problem you have to face down when you are an artist trying to make it, commercially.

I do believe that the things you write here are definitly avenues that can be explored and should be. Having said that, I dont believe some of these things havnt been done already, I just think you want more of them.

Thanks, CHenson — but which of them have been done? The Elle photograph was facilitated by 19E on behalf of the entire Idol franchise, not for David… I have yet to see any reports of David showing up at a gig at some hip little club in Brooklyn or Minneapolis… Did I miss his spot as the Mormon-Office-Boy-For-a-Day on The Office?

I think the photoshoots are fairly close to it, some of them have been great (I personally love the ones he did for Square Magazine). I think the appearance at the ProBowl and Sundance film festival are also definitly in the regions of what you are talking about. I see your point about TV shows, an appearance on The Office would be great, agreed.

I think there is more that still can be done.

The idea of David on The Office has me “all tingly” with anticipation!

rascal, I’m the faithful, then if that’s what you want to call me. I’m certainly not the holier than thou crowd. I work with several of those and believe me, they are the ones that give the faithful a bad name. I’m never here to judge in anyway. I know everyone just loves David and some just have different opinions than I do at times. I stive to be more like David everyday, he is truly a great example of the faithful.

Thank You Rascal – that was one heck of a post!

I stayed away the past couple days because of all the negativity raised here and also negativity heaped on you from other fansites. The only laughable thing about it was – we started our handwringing with the implication of the lunchbox. The others aimed daggers at Rascal, only to start their own handwringing with the HM news at which I said to myself – ‘What do you know? Rascal really WAS physic after all” – LOL!

The following from a FOD poster..But he can’t be talkin’ bout me cuz I ain’t high & mighty & I dunno any high end high sounding words..So this is bout all YOUSE guys!!
rascal..youse soooo infamous!!

Hi mates! (in British twang) Well, for a start, I’m excited that David is touring UK and maybe next Asia. Woot woot woot!

Hi GG, hi Candy, hi Russ, hi Scott, hi JoeG and hi to all FODers, no exceptions, Hi to All!

Well at first, I thought I was lost, I thought I was at Rascal’s NotingDavid. Hehe. Some posts here seem to be not favouring and not happy about David touring UK, not finishing his HS, why is he touring with a not-so-known band, in short they have their own agenda of what David and his management should do and not do….more like Rascalish and the majority of commenters there. They didn’t approve of David appearing on ICarly, as we do know it’s a kiddish show, but so what and comments over there appear to be more depressing and negative than not. And if you disagree and can’t debate well, they will jump on you and pound you to powder, so beware, they seem to be forming an “exclusive club” of posters for the smarts only, who will try to put you down and drown you with all their high end high sounding words. I would say, simple is beautiful. It’s disappointing to me, because to me, they appear to be selfish and selfish of David’s career. David is the epitome of humbleness, of humility, of kindness, of love and yet over at Rascals, it seems to be the opposite. I would say yeah strike the iron while it’s hot. To me David should cater to all ages, to all races, to all genders, to all faiths, even to all species (that’s too much now) which I believe he is trying his very best to accomplish. He should also tour around the world, be it in Asia, Latin America, Canada, Middle East and Africa. The more countries the better. He is still young and he will have all the time in the world later to concentrate on mature audiences. But for now, I say, everything goes. So now, anyone can pelt tomatoes at me!! Who will be the first. Haha!

Well, I opened up my eyes and I am at FOD. I’m not lost afterall. I’m in the most loving and caring fan site ever. Pass on the ice cream please!

Then this…

HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE YOU TUBE VIDEOS OF MCFLY? DISGUSTING! (NO, I AM NOT A MORMON, AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE ONE TO BE TOTALLY GROSSED OUT BY THESE VIDEOS!) TAKE A LOOK IF YOU HAVEN’T. I CANNOT BELIEVE DAVID WOULD AGREE TO TOUR WITH THIS GROUP, NO MATTER HOW GREAT THEIR MUSIC IS. MOST OF US FANS OF DAVID LOVE NOT ONLY HIS INCREDIBLE VOCALS BUT HIS STRONG CHARACTER AND VALUES. IN FACT, THAT IS A MAJOR PART OF THE ATTRACTION!! HE DOESN’T NEED TO DO THIS TOUR TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT HIS AMAZING VOICE. FRANKLY, I AM SO SHOCKED AT THIS NEWS THAT I CANNOT IMAGINE THAT IT IS TRUE – ASSUMING DAVID AND HIS DAD/MANAGEMENT TEAM KNOW OF THEIR ON AND OFF STAGE ANTICS. UGH!! TOURING WITH THIS GROUP HIS ANTITHETICAL TO EVERYTHING THAT DAVID STANDS FOR!!!!! PLEASE NO!!!!!!!

silverfox 13 — um, thanks, I guess….. (??)

Y’all can go and bask in all the loving and caring if you like, won’t bother me none…..

silverfox 14 – right, so, okay, perhaps the point you’re making is that FOD is going to wind up being that LAST place that the McFlyers are likely to feel welcome…?

I think it’s hilarious that the person who wrote that note used the words “the smarts only” which means it was likely that person that was baiting me the other night. And I’m also sorry to admit that watching the hand wringing over there is a bit of an interesting turnaround.

rascal, suprisingly, no cuz so far…
The good news is that the majority of the posters there and other sites were VERY excited about David’s UK tour..even after seeing the vids..knowing that David won’t be corrupted and doomed for life. That’s a good move to promote David The Voice throughout the world..

rascal, you are yet again on top of your game. I don’t know of any other fan of David who really does GET what David has to offer and how.

Thank you again, rascal.

you’re welcome, silverfox, but in the future, if you don’t mind, let’s leave the nD flaming from other sites on the other sites. K?

I remember a similar approach made with Daniel Radcliffe. A lot of people were saying that his career is doomed from the start because of the enormous success of the HP franchise. That he won’t be taken seriously as an actor cos outgrowing the harry character will be tough. Heck we still have at least 1.5 years to go with him as Harry, right? (1 movie to be shown this year & 2 more to go into production)

So what did he do? Take on a small indie project, December Boys and star in the theatrical revival of Equus.

Buuuuut, what really made people take notice and changed opinion on him was his guesting stint with Extras. He made fun of himself by spoofing his clean-cut image. If you have not seen it, you can check it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9T5cxnowyA

Overnight, that exposure took out the mickey out of his youth. As Rascal suggested “surprise cameos on cool shows.” :)

I just watched/listened to the video of McFly’s The Heart Never Lies. It’s really good. I really like their sound and love the lyrics. Thanks David, I just may become a fan of McFlys.

The feeling I get from some other sites is that the majority of the posters lurk here, have a lot of respect for rascal and “his smarts”..They come here to learn..to get insight they can’t get at any other site. I dare say, a lot of posters from other sites agree with what is said here but won’t or can’t say so w/o alienating the others on the site they frequent. I think deep down they admire rascal for staying true to his convictions..which is what they admire about David.

rascal #19..sorry, meant no harm, really.

wow, jackryan4DA, Radcliffe is a perfect example. The only other slight difference is that the HP series does have its own cool factor… It is critically acclaimed (for the most part), and even has the street cred that comes with being demonized by the wingnuts for being Pagan and heretical. But the point is still made — the transition from kid appeal to young adult cred is tricky and often difficult to navigate. Daniel did it, but he had to strip starkers — something tells me we won’t be seeing that from David…

Rascal, great post. “David’s people would be justified in their resentment and dismissal of those of us who constantly tweak their … noses with how things should be done.” I applaud your humility.

Right after A.I. finished I thought David would have made such a cool “ironic” choice to host SNL. Now I’d just love to see him do 2 songs and knock ‘em dead.

I’m intrigued with the savvy use of social marketing on both sides of the pond. The announcement of David opening for McFly sent fans for both camps spraining digits in their rush to YouTube to check each other out. And as we all know, once you start YouTubing David, there ain’t no turnin’ back….

Happy Valentine’s Day to you Rascal, and every ND poster and lurker!!! <33333

Just to share my perspective on the McFly tour…

At first I was giddy at the news then I began to have misgivings when I uncovered more of the anticis of this group. This morning however after much reflection, I feel calm and actually have a secret smile. The reason?

We sometimes forget about the power of David and his magnetism. I am sure that David has known about this possibility for a couple weeks now, and has in fact aimed his famous music research skills on this group. I visited the Mcfly site and saw some comments about how the group members may set out to purposefully shock David by their antics. I however believe the opposite will occur.

I will dare to place a bet that Mcfly will come to wonder (if only for a nanosecond) how come we feel compelled to do “shock-jock” things like setting crotch fires to win over an audience and all HE has to do is smile, look dorky and adorable at the same time. Then just when you think it’s safe to come out now – he begins to sing….and its all over.
I am supremely confident that while David will learn many things – good and not so good, I am also confident that after touring and peforming with him – he will touch their lives, at least in some small measure. Everyone who has had the opportunity to meet David in person from fans to celebrities – seldom anyone comes away unchanged.

And THAT is the secret weapon David carries behind his “Mona Lisa” smile……just be David.

I have lived in the UK for several extended periods of time (and also for a few years in Australia), and the extreme contingents of David’s fan base are going to be quite a curiosity to the British fans.

The extreme religious fanatics at some other sites are going to look like bubbling, close-minded idiots to the British fans. Sorry, I just had to say it.

what a difference a day makes…I’m walking vertical again and there’s a bounce back in my step

The post at #14 says it all. This is exactly why it is fantastic that David is getting this experience. If they had it there way, he will have no public career at all and would be performing at just church events.

joumus #26 That is the conclusion I also came to this morning. I was a little concerned for David when i read of some of the antics on and off stage from McFly. Then again, the forum is probably frequented by some of the most die-hard and shock-jock of those.

I think David will see and experience a lot of new things, but the influence is likely to go both ways.

I know these are dirty words here.. haha!

But if you click on the 3 little videos on the right you can hear David talk about a few things for Build A Bear about kids and volunteerism.

http://www.buildabear.com/lovehugspeace/song.aspx

Plus, it’s just nice to hear him talk. haha!

I’d really like to know what’s behind this UK tour pairing. Is McFly connected in any way to Azoff or Jive? I thought I read that they have their own label?

If they’re not connected, how would this pairing come about? If I were McFly’s management, I would prefer the opening act to have at least a semblance of a following in the UK if only to bring in more fans (seel tickets) beyond McFly’s. Chenson has said David is virtually unknown there.

Without a management connection, this seems like a coup for David: He gets exposure to a huge fanbase without having to pay his dues there.

Any thoughts?

juliebug — what do you mean “dirty words”? I did a whole video on that song!

Okay, full disclosure: I woke up this morning singing it. AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!

One poster on the McFly site said, “Oh maybe with David doing the concert, too, my parents will let me go” LOL!

I’ve been wondering that, myself, caseydog. Hey! You’re the investigative reporter! ;)

I’ve been reading comments from the UK fans who are perplexed at why David was asked to open for them (especially given his Idol history) and not an indie UK band. I’ve been telling them to check out David’s live performances online, that he is amazing live and they will not be disappointed. I think this act is quite a coup for David and will help give him artistic credibility. I am so thrilled that I can’t even describe it right now.

Hey Rascal! – LOL!
That song has been stuck in my head for the past couple days. What did me in wasn’t your vid (sad to say) but the vid of David singing that darn song.

How can I say this with a straight face – it was actually quite sensual without meaning to – you know what I mean? The look on his face when he’s enveloped in a song, him turning the pages, adjusting the headphones and his little shoulder shimmy to feel the pulse of the music…. can everyone plainly see the effects of replaying this vid has had on me?

The only connection I can see between the two is their participation in charities but typically only an event is planned around an association like that, not a tour.

I don’t have a problem with McFly antics to perhaps shock David as not as they are not mean-spirited, to make fun of him. That may only have a reverse effect and also get the fearful fanatics among his fans going even more about how “evil” this band is.

But if David can soak up some of the culture and diversity of these cities and just be with people living out their lives in many ways, and provided he is not whisked back to his hotel, or booked with certain types of events ever spare moment of his free time, this experience will be a phenomenal one for him.

Hi, Joner!!! Lots to talk about, once again! :-)

ahaha! Rascal! Sweet….la la la la la la

And Joymus – yup! I can’t quit watching that video. He’s beautiful.

Personally, I think that McFly is wanting to break into the US Market. They are first going to plumb the DA fans, and then since this album was done independently…I think we’ll hear at some point in the future that they are signed with Jive for future projects. Just guessin’.

Also,

http://teamarchie.com/international/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/charts-feb-7-2009-v2.jpg

Go figure! Touch My Hand is the number 1 song in…..Sri Lanka. hahahaha!

More here….

http://teamarchie.com/international/2009/02/09/david-archuleta-singles-on-international-charts-february-7-2009/

My guess is that McFly wouldn’t have any trouble selling out the venues even without an opening act. By having David open for them they are being introduced to David’s U.S. fanbase and really anyone who follows Idol news, which is a great coup for them too. On MJ’s board (a general idol fan site that leans Cook), some have been surprised that DA is getting such a great opportunity abroad so soon. Some even said they can’t remember any other Idols getting exposure like this in Europe right after their season, even Daughtry and Kelly. Hee hee. Like I’ve said before, I do think David could end up being more popular abroad than he is in the US, and that’s fine by me.

Caseydog, what are these huge events in the Phils you mentioned? Do you have some insider info you can share? ;)

juliebug – that’s it! I bet McFly and Jive are working on a deal…

A UK fan said: I sat and watched a couple of his videos on youtube, and to me he is just another pretty boy with a piano.
I love guys with a piano or guitar (see: patrick wolf) but his music feels shallow and for this type of music that is the most important thing to me. it’s just completely manufactured, every part of it

….I’ve been telling him to check out some of David’s penned songs that did NOT make the album, and also to give David a chance live. It is going to be so fun to see him being introduced to a totally new audience.

The connection I saw was McFly’s guesting stint with the Lohan starred movie “Just My Luck” by 20th Century Fox — which is part of the Fox community that also produces AI.

I don’t know how he does it, but that insipid little song thrills me at 3:00 – 3:07 – the VOICE just takes over and I’m bopping in my chair and loving David’s tone.

And whoever said there’s something sensual about watching him, GAH!. Always.

#26 joymus – this post has given me ‘much joy.’

Am I the only one who is also extremely excited about the concept of David’s exposure to a band that has put together their own label which in turn has afforded them more artistic freedom?

Marlie, Juliebug and Emme – Glad you appreciate my posts.

LittleMushroom: I can’t remember where I saw it, but it was around the time David was in Florida for that series of radio appearances. Someone on Team David mentioned that Philippines dates were being worked on – in the same way SLC concerts are supposedly in the works. And they said he would be in Asia for two weeks in early April, which led to speculation that two weeks is time enough to hit the Phils and maybe other Asian spots as well, such as Singapore and possibly Japan. It’s all completely speculation, but it kind of fits with the other tour plans. And we know he’s popular over there.

And Rascal, just to clarify: I’m an editor and Web producer foremost – I leave the hard-core reporting and interviewing to the pros I work with (unless it’s David we get to interview. :-) )

Joner – that is exactly some of the good that could come out of this exposure. I am sure in the saner moments of that tour – David will find opportunities to converse with the band members about their years of experience and garner salient advice for his future.

Caseydog, #32, I was wondering the same thing. The headliner must be the one to seek out/hand pick an opening act, yes? And yeah, why a U.S. performer not well-known in the U.K.?

A few McFly posters mentioned how much TV exposure the Crush video is getting over there. That, combined with the possibility that the McFly team saw David on A.I. and felt he (and his audience) were a good fit for their guys, could have kick-started talks.

And David, being Mr. Billboard Charts, was likely familiar with their big hits. And he is all about the music.

Next time you interview David, you’ll have to ask him!! ;)

The thing ill say about David and antics on tour is this. David has this profound ability to not be changed by people or experiances but instead to make an impact on them. Ill be the first to admit, im certainly not goody two shoes, mormon boy, ive done some pretty silly things in my time too but David had a large effect on me. With David comes a great deal of natural respect, an aura and sense of his own personal light and being that is rare amongst young people, its part of what makes him unique

You wont see David being changed or even offended by anything that might come his way. If anything, he will be changing them.

I am so excited about this UK tour!

Talking about timing. If we found out about the UK Tour before the MH gig, the perfect storms might not have taken place. With this reversed order (was it by design?), we had a chance to show our unconditional love for David. So, it’s all good in the end.

We have been talking about David redefining sexy. UK would have a chance to find out why fully clothed with a T shirt, a vest, and tight jeans = ultimate sexiness.

Rascal, my hat off to you for the last paragraph up there. Serious PRIDE!

As David spreads his wings and takes off with his career, he would continue to do something for his diversified groups of fans. At all times, he’ll be understood by most, and questioned by some. What he can count on is our unconditional love and support. We proved ourselves in the last few days.

I have only one worry. Would he be working too hard if he is going to Asia right before Europe? What would that do to his voice?

Well said, Chenson. David’s a true leader, not a follower. Hope you’ll be posting on your site about all this!

And rascal, “full disclosure: I woke up this morning singing it” bahahaha … it’s that Voice, resistance is futile!!! “Let’s talk about looooooooove”

Peru – one thing that the professional musicians have said over and over was that David was a PRO. And he knows how to take care of his instrument. Barring illness, he’ll be fine.

FYI, I haven’t heard it yet, but peeps are saying that David has left another voice message…

“He called up singing “I Just Called To Say I Love You” or whatever that song is and wished a Happy Valentine’s Day.”

He’s so cheesy. I love it! haha!

chenson: Perfect. You are very wise!

I can even relate to the part about not being goody two shoes. After all, I went to college in the mid 70’s :-)

Since you brought this BAB Video topic up, I agree about the sensuality. Here again is the David enigma. Replay is a beautiful thing! I find the beginning at :09 – :12 to be so HAWT. He seems to be getting positioned to sing. The view is from over his left shoulder.. He has the most beautiful facial profile.
How can a man singing a “child’s” song make it so fetching? Oh , and I was at the BAB store at 10 am Friday to get a few shirts for some “kids” I know. I had to wait for the delivery truck. Now that is dedication! Oh the joy of ODD.

Abrra

Did anyone else David’s new valentine’s message? He was singing to us ” I just called to say I love you” My kids and I almost fall out of our chairs! We love David so much!

I meant to say did anyone else GET David’s new valentine’s message?

juliebug, you beat me with those news

Great post Rascal.
Maybe now your tennants can energized their thoughts positively toward David.Especially after listening to his new singing message:”I just want call to say I love you”Happy Valentine’s day”Isn’t that cute?

I would love to see David guest star on “30 Rock”. He could take Kenneth the Pages’ job for a day!

OMG! Did you guys get your David voicemail today? I seriously blushed when he started singing “I just called to say I love you/ I just called to say how much I care…”

Man, if he were my for-real boyfriend, he would’ve gotten lucky tonight just on that message alone!

Not to sell myself short or anything…I’d still expect the flowers and chocolate-covered strawberries. :D

And people wonder why we Archies and Archangels are so devoted to him. Sigh.

Is Rascal signed up to get the voice messages? hahahahaha! I want video of that. tee hee

Rascal – thanks for this post especially your last sentence “I hope David’s people can find it in their hearts to forgive us for blathering on about how much we care and how much we think we know.”

Joymus #37 lol

Joner #48 I thought about this too. The only real way to be able to do exactly what you want is with your own label. Perhaps this will also come to David in time.

HG,
I was at the hairdresser’s under a drier when the phone rang – I could not explain how it felt hearing that little love jingle. I gasped out loud ’cause the message was so unexpected.
Thank God for natural melanin, otherwise I would have been caught blushing to no end – LOL!

David’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You” phone message:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqSmebvbhew

I love this phone singing stuff!
David singing Stevie. It had to happen. And I had to shut myself up into my room to call back a second time.
I want to keep it on my phone as a ringtone. Anyone know how to accomplish that?
Grinning!

Happy trails to you…Rascal

Peace

Dawn65 – Thanks for the link. This kid is just amazing. I melted hearing his voice!

joymus #26 – I was glad to see that I wasn’t the only one who went from elation to slight concern to feeling great again. This McFly business took a bit of time to sort through. Lovely post!

chenson – #53 – Both you and joymus talked about David’s profound ability to affect people. Yes! We’ve all experienced that or we wouldn’t be here. It will be interesting on many levels to see how the whole UK tour experience plays out. Can’t wait!

rascal –

rascal- my heart is sad…..from joy to sorrow…….

A Tear And A Smile
I would not exchange the sorrows of my heart
for the joys of the multitude.
And I would not have the tears that sadness makes

to flow from my every part turn into laughter.

I would that my life remain a tear and a smile.

A tear to purify my heart and give me understanding

of life’s secrets and hidden things.

A smile to draw me nigh to the sons of my kind and

to be a symbol of my glorification of the gods.

A tear to unite me with those of broken heart;

a smile to be a sign of my joy in existence.

I would rather that I died in yearning and longing than

that I live weary and despairing.

I want the hunger for love and beauty to be in the

depths of my spirit, for I have seen those who are

satisfied the most wretched of people.

I have heard the sigh of those in yearning and longing,

and it is sweeter than the sweetest melody.

With evening’s coming the flower folds her petals

and sleeps, embracing her longing.

At morning’s approach she opens her lips to meet

the sun’s kiss.

The life of a flower is longing and fulfilment.

A tear and a smile.

The waters of the sea become vapor and rise and come

together and are a cloud.

And the cloud floats above the hills and valleys

until it meets the gentle breeze, then falls weeping

to the fields and joins with brooks and rivers to return

to the sea, its home.

The life of clouds is a parting and a meeting.

A tear and a smile.

And so does the spirit become separated from

the greater spirit to move in the world of matter

and pass as a cloud over the mountain of sorrow

and the plains of joy to meet the breeze of death

and return whence it came.

To the ocean of Love and Beauty—-to God.

Kahlil Gibran

Rascal – I understand. Stay well.

rascal……this hurts, my friend. I am trying to understand.

Rascal, your blog will be so missed, but I understand your reasons behind your decision. I love how you were never afraid to speak your mind. I hope that we can stay in touch.

Wait… what did I miss… what does this mean?????

I’m having separation anxiety.

notingdavid is no more?

rascal is no more?

someone help… my head is spinning

Hi HG. Am sorry for your loss. Glad to hear from you.

rascal – What can I say? Shocked, will miss nD as it was a compass always seeking the direction of truth…..did I say SHOCKED. I am sure our paths will cross on this David fan journey in the future. Best of luck!

I’m am more saddened by Rascal’s departure than iCarly/HM/BAB combined…

I’ll be out there again in the world with no place to go with by ODD.

I just won’t fit in with the gushing and oohing and ahhing without something of substance to latch onto.

It’s a sad day… not even youtube would cheer me up now 8(

Dear Rascal,

I feel like a rug has been pulled from under me. That’s being selfish I know, cos I can imagine that this is not easy on you.

Am tearing up actually as I write this. Try as I might, I don’t understand. But whatever precipitated this decision… sad…

You have my respect and admiration. I will miss you and the ND community.

ps: Is there any way to change this course you have taken?

Just to give you guys one perfect little example of what’s been going on, I actually received a hate mail about my departure note!! I’m not kidding! Calling me pompous and delusional. Can you imagine? I mean even if you think that, who kicks someone in the ass on the way out? Wow, that’s icy.

I don’t accord these things any credence, of course, the vast majority of these people have neither the courage nor the fortitude to put themselves out there and instead hide behind anonymous emails with bold words they would never say otherwise, but I do have to tell you that months and months and months of swimming upstream can get exhausting. And I have a lot of other things that require my attention just now. I do appreciate your understanding.

rascal, my heart aches, but I send you love.

This totally sucks. I mean we have the tours ahead of us. This spring was shaping up to be such a fun time for us ND’ers. Now the rug has been pulled out from under us, again. I don’t understand at all. This will fuel so much speculation.

I was one of those who didn’t always agree with you Rascal, but I certainly respected you and your ideas. Dammit. I am not a happy camper!

Dear Rascal,

Took a few minutes to digest the news with teary eyes. It is sad…, but your decision is understandable. Good luck with your endeavors. You and nD will be missed.

I am completely at a loss for words. Not sure how I am going to deal with ODD. We have to learn be patient and continue to support David. Hope we will meet again and enjoy David’s success together in the very near future.

Don’t do it… I’m begging… don’t do it.

don’t let a bunch of haters with their panties all up in a bunch.. UNDO all you’ve done.

Don’t you know…hate mail arrives…because you are a threat !!!

Rascal, this is so sad right when we were all feeling so elated. You and your site will be so missed. It is difficult to find any other place where we can have intelligent conversation about all things David. Can I just tell you that, like David, I am LDS, and am saddened, as he would be, by the lack of tolerance and love out there for a true fan. David has no better advocate out there than you. Please reconsider, don’t let the bastards get you down.. I know, easy for me to say. But I do say it. You mean a lot to us all.

If this were Idolforums I would be linking to a gigantic cry-smiley right now.

Rascal, we will miss you! Will the rest of us at least be able to congregate here while you’re gone?

Rascal, this is really sad to hear. Like others here, I want to say don’t go, don’t close up shop. So many of us like it here, and we’ve been around for almost a year!

Sigh. But you wouldn’t be the first blogger whom I’ve enjoyed reading to take a break from blogging. It’s draining already without the drama of haters.

However, I’m not hearing that you’ll be shutting down ND forever. At least that’s my wishful thinking. More like taking a break (like you had done last year – like about a month; thanks for the warning this time!).

In the mean time, where will those of us who’ve met each other and created e-friendships and e-communities (even meeting up in person at concerts and the like) hang out? We need an alternative space because what exists out there in the ArchUniverse is no match for what we’ve built here in terms of an Archie community. I love Snarkies but that’s a different vibe from what we have here.

If there’s any consolation in reading this news today, it’s that I learned about it before I left the country. Returning (especially on such a sad occasion) to the blogosphere with no Rascal and no ND would have been too much.

I’m really sorry it has come to this. :(

That’s my challenge, NDers. Once the comments get shut down, that’s it!

So, when that happens, and I’m overseas, I humbly ask one of you to please create a new blog where we can all congregate once again. Pretty please?

We can call it the “Little Rascals” or “Our Gang”! :)

Or the “Refugees” or “Keeping Vigil Until Rascal Returns.”

I mean, seriously. Besides, we have yet to plan our Fanvention, with or without David present.

Peace!

Rascal – I was just starting to get into the flavor of your writings and comments and now you’re leaving us?

One thought: Being in Europe without the support of his American fans will be a huge adjustment for David. Plus, he won’t have a female buddy to hang out with after the show. I have been reading the posts on here and the real question is, “Is David impressionable?” If he is, then touring with this band could influence his thoughts and behavior. If not, then it probably won’t. David is extremely grounded for his age, yet he is justs eighteen. The question is what do we want for him? I personally don’t want to see an attitude change. I love him the way he is, inside and out. I do, however, think he needs to open up and experience his true self in every way, but I don’t think that an outside influence will push David to do this. He doesn’t seem to care what outsiders think of his behavior and beliefs, and if anything, I think it could have the adverse effect. He may realize he’s not in his element, and settle some things in his own mind. The main thing is we don’t want him to tarnish too early in any way. I just want him to be at peace with himself. Just my two cents.

pps: perhaps there is still another way to approach this? I mean wasn’t there a period when you were so busy that you almost didn’t have time to post?

Grasping at straws here, people!

Am thinking of HG and her venting/ranting/raving glory – that has got have some outlet you know. Or how about HAPPY? she needs to play her volly and offer her brownies! Oh of course SF! she even infected her sister with ODD. That household has got to have a home to bunker in! What about all the lovely NDers that people your blog – how in the world will we ever find a way to finally hear you sing the the bear song, now that you have warmed up to it?

Seriously, am panicking at the prospects…. {{{hugs}}} rascal

Rascal,

I know I am not one that has contributed much to any of the discussions here, but I have always found this blog site enlightening, funny and never boring. I didn’t agree with some of the opinions here at times, but that is the beauty of this world, we are all different. If we all thought alike it would be a very boring world with not much to learn, and without any progress at all. Thank you for this site and I hope that you will come back and be our host again sometime soon. Best wishes to you in all your endeavors.

HG – I think that we need a place to congregate until rascal reappears. It should be a blog run by you with guest visitors from some of the ND community.

rascal (((hugs)))

Rascal, I already feel a terrific sense of loss. Your perspective is sometimes very different from mine, and I have come to rely on your eloquent voice and the strong sense of community that you have fostered here. I won’t say goodbye, but instead a more hopeful, “Until next time.”

Rascal,
So many times I wanted to send you personal correspondence, just to talk to you about certain things I feel i cannot say because the looneys would crucify me.
I even dreamt about you (faceless, in a scuba suit!). In that dream the huffing, sniffing, uptight crazies were after me. You laughed your ass off and then jumped into the sea, without a care.

Thank you for all of the new firsts for me. For allowing a reader to write. Not well, but I don’t really care anymore.

The sanctimonious ones sending you hate mail on your departure note? There is nothing “Godly” in that type of unholy behaviour.
It’s time for me to go listen to “Tulsa Angels”
Love,
Betsy

Guys, I appreciate your concerns, but it is time for me to apply my energies elsewhere for at least a little while. Who knows, maybe something will come up. Maybe a private forum. Check back occasionally, and perhaps there will be a little potted plant of some kind, all ready to grow again.

In the meantime, please talk about David and not me….

rascal, with all due respect, I think you need to let us talk about you for a bit. We all love you and need to just say some stuff about you. Okay?

LIZ, I like the idea of a group blog where each take turns blogging …until Rascal returns.

Of course, I won’t have time to set anything up until the end of February/early March.

If anyone is interested, send me a personal note: hobsjayceeh@yahoo.com

Well, I’m out for the rest of the night. G’nite all!

Oh shit, Liz, you just made me cry.

Like I haven’t been crying for the last hour!!! Look what you made me do??!!!

We love you rascal. You are a beautiful soul. You have carried this load for a long long time, and it’s okay to put it down. You can put it down for a short time, or a long time, or whatever is good for you.

The community you created here will continue. It will be different, but you have created something quite wonderful here, my friend. And that will continue.

Good Luck Rascal! A variety of opinions makes life interesting and this place has been a haven for that. NotingDavid is known for having mature/varied/controversial/insightful opinions. It’ll be missed. I hope you reconsider or come back soon!

Aww Rascal, I haven’t posted often, but have lurked daily…. As many have said, you will be sorely missed in the DA blogosphere. Reading your posts and all of the ensuing comments has been one of my favorite forms of entertainment since I found you through your comments on David’s Think of Me youtube… always thought provoking, enlightening and fun.

I really hope you take your break, but eventually realize that your voice is needed out here! You provide such a great balance against all of those gushy, mushy sites. This has been the best place to come for intelligent analysis. I am so sad that you have had to endure hate mail and the like… those people do not live up to the ideal that is David Archuleta!

Good luck in all of your endeavors… I will look for your book on Brooklyn, but hopefully before then, you’ll return to blogging again about our favorite Idol.

Some of David’s fans can be really nasty, especially if you print ideas contrary to the those held by the extreme conservative end of his fan base.

Rascal, I’m so sorry. You don’t deserve this. I remember what a gaping hole you left when you closed ND last time and how joyous it felt when you came back. Take the time you need but know how much this special space has meant to all of us. So sad, so very sad. Would like to hug you for real.

I love Liz and HG’s idea!!! A blog with shared writing responsibilities. I’m in! The vibe of this blog is badly needed in the fan community.

Well, I have to let my silence and try to express my feelings now, because I’m sad.
I’m sorry for Rascal decision to close the site. This is the best place for adult fans of David, with mature critical on posts and comments. I think David deserves a place like this, for serious discussion about his professional path.
I think that fans who attend assiduously this site will pay for the ignorance of some people. The closure of this site will be a victory for moralists, puritan and immature people, who consider themselves owner of all truths. I hate such kind of people. I’m from Brazil and we are a liberal people. I do not understand or accept moral patrols of any kind.

Anyway, as assiduous, although silent, frequenter of this space , I want to let my solidarity and my thanks to Rascal, hoping that his decision is not permanent and can be reconsidered as soon as possible.

And forgive me by my terrible english.

ppps:
perhaps assign a sub, rotate the post, while you are away? Just like HG said, we are not hearing you are closing ND forever?

It is really hard to maintain a blog, if you are on your own… There is strength in #s — look at Holy Trinity of Snarkies!

You have a lot of good, really good writers here that share your perspective – HG, SF, Bliss, Casey, DavidLiz, Kizzi, Chenson, brook, Angelica, am sure am forgetting a whole lot more — come on!

have to step out for while. Some errands for my daughters thesis – she is defending it tomorrow. Hope that when I come back, things have changed?

Freo, I am in as well. I just dropped a quick note to HG declaring that sentiment. I was thinking where could I go and not feel out of place and frankly there is nowhere else to go when I fit in.

Rascal, I feel like just grabbing your pantleg and not letting go.

Maybe if I start spamming…..

he wont

go?

Brooklyn, I dropped her a note, too. Let’s keep the vibe and fighting spirit alive! It is exhausting to carry it on your own, but together we can carry on the good fight. :-)

We love you, Rascal! :-)

You’ll be back Rascal. Sure as the sun rises in the East, sets in the West…..

You will tend to and bind up whatever wounds have been inflicted, and you will listen to the voice inside that compels you to be true to who YOU are… regardless how painful or uncomfortable or bewildering it may be at times for yourself, and others…

It will compel you, the way it compels all of us who express unshakable and undying love for David here and all around the world… compels us to show our true selves to one another on these boards – fearless, fearful, intelligent, proud, empowered, unafraid, passionate, besotted, mesmerized… by an 18 year old man from Utah.

You will be back, because resistance is an exercise in futility…The love for David, and the community created here as a result of that love will win in the end.

I am a newbie to this site….just a few months really.

From the first time I posted, I felt welcomed and loved.

I am meeting ND friends for the Alb, NM show,

I feel that diversity of thought is the one of the most valuable things we have as creative beings.

You may be more liberal than some….heck perhpas even me! But all opinions should have a forum.

The folks here are so funny, and eloquent. I have felt at home here and enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts on not only all things David….but all things life!

I sure hope you reconsider.

Don’t get too upset..he’ll be back. Everything is a chess game for rascal.

Well I am a fighter, lol!

I know it’s exhausting and it can be difficult, and I am sure that some of the nasties that pestered him about his views on David have taken their toll.

I just know that this community should not be silenced as I believe that even if David doesn’t read here we are saying things that others dare not, and for that reason it must in some permutation, continue.

I will be there that is for sure.

Rascal. I adore you, you have a fine mind and even though we did not always agree it was always a blast. I mean who’s gonna fly the freak flag with me?

Eliz. What part are you representing in this ‘game’?

Just calling it like I see it.

Hi Rascal. I have never posted before but I am an avid follower of your blog.

I just wanted to say that when I first discovered this blog, I thought ‘how profound’….to have found an artist as gifted, beautiful and incomparable like David and then, to have found a fan i.e. you, giving beautiful, thought-provoking, intelligent and fun insights, perspectives and narrations of all things David Archuleta.

Most importantly, we are here because we want to see a David Archuleta with a long and full-filling career, recognized for the brilliance that he is. Because only with a long and full-filling career will we get to see more of the brilliance that he is. (And boy do we need that brilliance to be fed to us on a daily basis…)

I see this site as supporting exactly that.

I sincerely do hope after this R&R (preferably brief) you will come back with a spring, a bounce and a gleeful hop (as in your BAB video : ) ) and with also the ever-needed narration and insights into the adventures of David Archuleta, artist extraordinaire!!

<3<3<3

LOVE. PEACE. CRED.

If we can muster the courage, I agree with HG~ we can try to sustain an extension of this nD community as a gift to ourselves and to Rascal. I suspect that it will not be an adequate substitute for Rascal’s house though. The loss of the founding member will leave an unfillable void. We will have to reinvent ourselves….not an easy thing to do. I have so enjoyed the time I have spent here and I am thankful that I indulged myself. Just another example that when God offers me a gift, I am wise to accept it and to know that it can be taken away as quickly as it was freely rained upon me.

The thing is… though we have been repeatedly questioned about it, our nD family really does know what unconditional love is. Love without conditions is love without having our needs met first, it’s about serving the other in their dark hours and in the hours in which they are overwhelmed. It is about giving of yourself and doing for them what they cannot do for themselves when they are in need, certain in the knowledge that the love you show is a glorification of God and a manifestation of His love.

Rascal’s house has brought much to my life… a true sense of community, joy, entertainment, affection, and yes, love. Love takes many forms and this is one of them. The haters are hard to take. Trying to effect real change in any world brings out the haters. Martin Luther King advised, “I have decided to stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear.” We get the love and rascal bears much of the burden,… and for what end? As much as rascal might want to think it…it’s not all about David. It’s not even mostly about David. It’s about Rascal and us…and the gift that is this blog.

I thank you rascal. And I know I say it all of the time but, …. have I told you lately that I love you? ♥

Rascal,

I respect and completely understand your decision.

As an admirer of yours going back nearly a year, I do hope however to still hear your voice weighing in at crucial points in David’s progression. May the dissolution of ND bring you the freedom to do this without the tedium of maintaining a blog — and the constant battles that that entails.

Just let me know where you land, OK?

Thanks.

Oh Rascal… It hurts to know that you have been hated upon by people who think they have David’s best interests at heart. You have always always been such a champion of David. I really don’t know how to deal with the sadness I feel right now. Please reassure us that it will be a break only? I do understand that it must be hard to keep on keeping on, but I feel that David needs you, as do all of us here. I will be searching daily for the potted plant Rascal… it must grow.

Thank you rascal for making OOD so much fun. I am going to miss your threads. They are to be savored like a fine wine. I always take my time and read them slowly and devour every word. Then I read it all again. You have so much common sense. I admire your spirit for life. I will not say good-bye.
Don’t know where, don’t know when, but we will All meet again.

Much respect and love,
Abrra

That’s sad news to me. I love NotingDavid and Rascal’s writing and vision without necessarily having agreed with everything. Rascal’s leave empoverishes David’s fandom as a whole and this saddens me to no end.

I feel like I’ve been silenced, uprooted and made homeless in my affection for David without this site to voice it for me. I don’t hate anything except haters.

Rascal,
I understand but hope you reconsider and wish you all the best

Oh no, Rascal, you are not going to leave me and the loving community here homeless again, please!

Sorry, I am too emotional to proceed further, I will come back later when I am more composed.

Rascal, it occurs to me that the same folks who’ve attacked you and sent you hate mail could very well be lurking here feeling smug.

If so, I just want to say that one of the things I treasure most about David’s music is the way it brings people together … so if his fans truly love how kind, generous and non-judgmental David is, they would do well to follow his example.

Peace be with you all.

(And Freo, Liz, JR, I just emailed HG to say “count me in” to help hold the fort.)

HG
I sent you an email requesting an alert if we get another place to meet until rascal returns. For me there is no other place to post. The maturity here is what draws us and we need to have someplace to continue our own flavor of ODD.

Abrra

Folks — This is not a response to the self-righteous arbiters of all that is right and proper for David. They are in their own way far more guilty of precisely what they accuse me of, which is of course evidence of their tiresome and all-too typical hypocrisy. Mostly they bore me.

No, the controversies that developed in response to my thoughts and our discussions about David’s marketing, and some of the reactions to comments made about the prospects for his UK tour were spread throughout a much larger contingent of the fan base, and involved far more people than just the holier-than-thou’s.

But even so, these developments were just the push that I needed to make a decision that has been on my mind for quite some time, a decision that has much more to do with my own personal priorities than with the reaction to my role in the fan community. It is just time for a change.

Okay, Rascal, fair enough. Thanks, then. Thanks for everything. À bientôt….

Rascal,
I sensed a storm brewing but it became full blown esp. this afternoon on another site. For the past couple days the all for one Archies/Archangels seemed to be segregating into decidedly different camps, and posts filled with immuendoes and name-calling began to emerge. The gloves have come off and the battle to keep David all rainbows and unicorns 24/7 got its first casualty.

Rascal, the thing is – we may not have agreed with you all the time but that was the beauty of this site. It encouraged and stimulated not only our debating skills but our brain cells as well.
Since when documenting the exploits of David Archuleta – the good, the bad , and the ugly has become decidedly hazardous?

It will be hard to go back to only cotton candy at the concession stand.

Rascal – I will miss not only your deep intellect, but our conversations on the site for me that truly discusses and analyzes the artistry of David Archuleta.

You know I started this post okay but am now wiping away the tears as I type. I can’t even make a post with this much thought or depth on any of the other sites. If we somehow manage to recreate a semblance of this site – PLEASE don’t be a stranger. Change your name if you have to…. We will recognize your “voice” when you do. “WE” love you Rascal, its ironic that our hearts got broken on Valentine’s Day….

joymus: I have to agree that the current prevailing winds may very well create fan and fan community casualties, and that this will be a very unfortunate development for David indeed. Ironically, he will be losing some of his most potentially influential supporters, the ones with greater discernment and more sophisticated sensibilities: The very ones that I have been warning about him losing as things seem to veer more and more inevitably toward base conventionality (not that I think he will lose them as fans, but that they will no longer share, evangelize, or participate). To make matters worse, the moment a slightly more interesting avenue appears, a full-on freakout seems to ensue. In some ways, my greatest fears about his chances for broader appeal are materializing right before my eyes. But let’s not get too terribly dramatic.

The next six months will be very interesting indeed, and I know it will be tempting for me to express myself. But at this point I have to confess that I am more interested in simply observing how things play out. I have said virtually everything I think I need to say at this stage, we’ll just have to see what unfolds….

Drama queen. I assumed you were tougher than this. Everybody of any interest on the Internet attracts a few haters. Comes with the deal. So, big deal. Ignore them. Most lurkers are like I am. We applaud you 80 percent of the time and can’t stand you the other 20 percent. It’s what keeps you interesting. Like when you and some of the other posters jump on your high horses of what you imagine to be enlightenment and sophistication to look down upon the Bible-thumping unwashed masses comprising the rest of us. Surely, you know that. Jeez, you should be lecturing us, not the other way around. Take a pill, and see us in the morning.

Count me in HG.. I’ll do my best.. I won’t do nearly as well with the graphics or creativity as our dear rascal.. and right now.. well crap..

…it’s a horrible day when words escape me 8(

Gee, the charm and intelligence expressed by all the lurkers coming out has really made me question my decision to bail on this circus.

I second that ezaz. Every single word you said.

Rascal, do you recall what Paula Abdul said to David, after he came back from the We Can Work It Out disaster? Something along the lines of how one handles and overcomes adversity doesn’t build character – it reveals your character…. Something else to ponder as you take this self imposed exile dear heart.

I will miss you rascal, just like I did last time you took a break, but I will be there for David no matter what transpires in his fandom.

Thank you.

rascal! I just got wind of some bad news and I’m frantically scrolling up and down looking for your message with the bad/sad news but can’t find it. Gathering from what people are saying (I haven’t read them all yet), are you shutting down nD? taking a break?? My heart hurts. Do things have to come to this, really? I feel really bad, for us but more for you.

Gee, the charm and intelligence ?

I’ve been “ahem… surfing…. ” .. and I think the above is kind of an oxymoron…. from what I’ve been reading.

Seriously Rascal.. please reconsider… think about those truly about the “artistry” ..

Ok, rascal, I am going backwards and just saw you saying you’re questioning your decision to bail out!! Please question it!!!

vermeer – Rascal added an addendum to the main post at the top of this thread.

Can’t we just say.. Dang it.. and move forward ?

Not for nothing…but you know.. I logged in..about 1 minute before I got my David call… I couldn’t even get excited 8(

this is profoundly depressing

vermeer — I was being facetious. I am finding some of these comments to be really obnoxious.

Rascal #139. What are 5 haters (or a bunchful) compared to the innumerable (I’m sure of this) lurkers who love but just don’t always say so??

I’m sure we can take a little hassle for David’s sake…

He is so worth it… <3

aquamarine21 — Please read 133

btw, the JoBros are on SNL right now. So cute, so boring, so not talented.

Rascal #151…I understand…

OMG… you could hear a pin drop in here. I swear I’ll have to go back to being a closet fan.

p.s. we have horses? I thought we only had brownies.. I feel completely left out now.

Just read #100, Rascal says:

“Guys, I appreciate your concerns, but it is time for me to apply my energies elsewhere for at least a little while. Who knows, maybe something will come up. Maybe a private forum. Check back occasionally, and perhaps there will be a little potted plant of some kind, all ready to grow again.”

I feel so much better now. Yes, by all means, Rascal, take a well-deserved break to attend to your own affairs. I will certainly check back regularly and I hope it would not be long before we hear from you again.

Going back to reading the remaining comments.

In case the door to comment is shut before I could come in here again, may I extend my love and sincere thanks to Rascal and the delightful gangs here for the pleasure of your company and opinions!

Sigh, I feel so lost, this is the only site I love, maybe in the interim Snarkies would be fine.

Rascal,

Your voice will truly be missed.

I can’t imagine going through this journey that is David’s career, without your eloquent, thought-provoking words and the joy that I get from reading the posts here everyday.
This is such a special place…really…

dawn- use the contact form to send rascal your email. ask him to forward it to me regarding sayreville.

I can’t tell you how sad I am right now. I have followed you from Rickeys, missed your beautiful and eloquent words when you left Rickeys, and was ecstatic when I discovered ND.

I know that I don’t post as often as some, but checking in here daily has become such a routine with me, that I’m almost as obsessed with ND as I am with David. I’ve met the most incredibly intelligent and wonderful people on-line here, which have developed into real life friendships, that I hope will last well beyond my blog years.

I understand your need to do this… I just wanted to let you know how much being a part of the ND community means to me. I’m hoping that this is just temporary and i want to let you know how much I will miss you and I love you.

rascal, I just realized that you were being facetious once I read all of the comments, particularly the “obnoxious” ones preceding yours.

Very sad that there are always people who think nothing of being very unpleasant, uttering things they may not if they were face to face with you.

Needless to say I’m very sad, worse than the first time you shut down. But if you say your decision is based more on things you need to give attention to than on reactions from whoever/whatever people out there to what you’ve been saying, then I will wish you the best.

I firmly believe as David does, if something happened, then it was supposed to have happened. No matter how it feels now, there is something else waiting for you obviously. Ironically, this turn of events is mirroring my own situation in some ways. Instead of losing my job this Monday, I was given a chance to transition to something else that on the surface did not look as good but your words echoed mine in that, in the end, this situation of mine is actually what I had been contemplating so I could divert my attention to something that I’ve been feeling I really needed to. So I completely hear you.

Please know that this blogsite of yours is where I’ve been coming to without fail everyday since the AI days because I loved your writing and the content that you provided. It is the only blog that actually discusses David’s artistry. Granted things got heated sometimes but you gotta love the regulars and the occasional posters.

Those of you who felt/feel nDers are snooty or whatever, I will just say I will pray for you for you are needing more love in your heart for yourself. Peace.

rascal, I look forward to when you come back and I think you will because David is not going away. He is here to stay just like us.

caseydog, thank you for letting me know about the update.

happy 156 .. done 8( .. I’m so sad.. I’m off to bed now

Rascal, I truly undertand and I am not going to beat a dead horse, but your departure occurs and has overshadowed what I have been looking forward to for days. A discussion about how David should be marketed.

Joymus if you have the time email me at deecee675 @ hotmail.com. I have a question for you.

rascal, I can’t thank you enough for ALL that you’ve done. I am rereading the posts and I sincerely hope to be part of a private forum in the future. I wish you the best of luck with everything. When I spoke of my own situation above, I did not mean to say at all I can actually understand what you are feeling as only you know what it’s taken to keep this blog going and to swim uphill sometimes. I will miss you and this house/home very much. I am actually still struggling to process it all.

I was there when you took that first break Rascal. It feels different this time. It’s entirely your right to do as you so desire.. I get it. I just don’t want you to go.
I’m not done learning from this place. I started college because of David and you. All these classy, fascinating people who write about David with you “at the helm” have inspired me to learn. I will sorely miss your “lectures”.
Thanks for the great times. PEACE!

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”

Bad weather, snow, sleet, heavy rain, kept me away until now, and I find that so much of this little part of the world that I have been living in and enjoying so much has greatly changed in the matter of just a couple of days. How strange! How wonderful! How sad life can be!

First, I am thrilled, Thrilled, THRILLED! that David is going to overseas soon, leaving Puritania for Freetania! What wonders those three months will do for him…to be shown that the world need not be a confining, constricting place, but can be a liberating one. His role model may well be Josephine Baker. When I earlier wrote that he had some mountains to climb before he could be taken seriously as a mature artist, I did not anticipate that those mountains would be the Alps. How glorious for him! His ascent begins, and I am so extremely happy for him. May he surmount all obstacles that may be put in his way by well meaning but life-inhibiting others and become acquainted with an even greater power than any he now knows, the power of the untethered soul, because he is the happy warrior who….

“… is the generous spirit, who, when brought
Among the tasks of real life, hath wrought
Upon the plan that pleased his boyish thought:
Whose high endeavors are an inward light
That makes the path before him always bright:”

And we Archie and ND fans, in our happiness and our grief, may remember the words of the Great Bard:

“….Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests, and is never shaken:
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.”

Thanks for the memories, Rascal. Don’t let the bastards get you down. Hope all turns out well that means well.

Rascal, I just want you to know that I may have disagreed with a few people here, (mainly the unsympathetic lurkers), but have always agreed with you. Even when I may not have liked what I read, I knew there was more than a grain of truth in what you said and was enlightened and better for it.
You are a sweetheart, I want you to know that. Let this go if you need to, but know that in David’s kingdom of fans, he has lost a powerful ally in you and in this blog.
I feel such a loss. Where will we go? I can not hurrah on a daily basic on other fan sites on the latest puppy dog cuteness of David or the adorable way he sneezes. Jeez. He deserves more thoughtful sites and insights than that. He is a genius. I suspect you are too. Well, adios and take care, dear Rascal. Please come back to us. We and David, need you more than you know.

I got the news from SA. I enjoyed your earlier posts. But yes, lately your criticisms has been destructive rather than constructive. I myself would not agree to unjusifiable gushings of whatever David does, but I certainly do not understand why there should be mockery and ridicule…if I should have lost my respect for you in my earlier post, then I don’t think I will ever gain that respect for you after reading rachel’s post at SA. That one was really it. I don’t think you are a fan at all…and I suppose this site ‘closing down’ is the best option for you.
And for those of you here who joined the ‘making fun of and really looking down and mocking’ on David’s recent activities , you should read up on a post at SA about the definition of being a LOYAL FAN. I can accept you all are great fans, but are you loyal? Are you supportive? Are you constructive…
PEACE!

persimmon #166: You will have to acquire a few more of the scars that come from living a bit longer before you are able to distinguish the difference between true love and puppy love. I realize that my words will not make the least impression on you, because that is the way it is with those who find rational thinking a bothersome bore.

persimmon, rascal started this site out of love for David and his music and I don’t suppose you know the effort that goes into maintaining a blog or you wouldn’t be dismissing him and his effort so casually. I will have to chuck your attitude to complete ignorance.

Maybe some day you too will understand the difference between a critique and what you characterize as “mocking, ridicule, looking down”.

And lastly, FYI, there is a mutual respect between this site and the snarkies. Why don’t you ask Amy, or Dana, or Sabrina?

Good night!

rascal, hope that your new avi is only temporary. We need your voice, my friend.

I have been a lurker forever, it seems, but have very rarely posed. I will miss this sight immensely—it has helped me through life-threatening cancer. When I was in the hospital, there was a computer not too far from my room. I would stumble out to it with all these gizmos and gadgets hanging off me, and google “noting david”, and read all of your wise, inspirational and witty words. Rascal, you and David have kept me going! I know I will be able to keep up with David–he is going to be hugely famous some day–he already is in my mind. But I don’t know where else I will be able to feel like a part of a community like I have here. I have a wonderful family, and many loving friends, but I feel like you are all my family, too, even though you don’t know me. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know how much I will miss you–you make my day—every day!

So then where is silverfox? Looking among the disaster for David’s evening prayer…well we can all remember what it is and that will be close to the same…

I think that there is always a fine balance that is needed which is I guess… not speaking in the English language that becomes difficult to understand and then there are different translations…that is where the trouble can come from…If we speak with the perhaps simplest and purest words that all can understand then we can avoid conflict…This I say in good faith….For the kindness of the thousands, speaking in a more simple version would be giving the care and understanding that makes a place not just for some but for all who want to be in this place to learn and enjoy the powers of David…

I believe that every one of us sometimes has feelings that we want to express but it would be costly considering the multitude of people from around the world who frequent here and on other sites…Speaking in more of a universal language keeps us without trouble…

Leaving is unfortunate and not the only option for sure…

rascal…I believe that #170 is the reason to stay here…not the conflicts, the dramas, the silliness, well, the silliness is fun…but, beyond everything else, beyond everyone else, there are the people whose lives are enriched and healthier because of this site…

The most important reason came with the posting #170..Some of us don’t need to read here to get by but so many do need this place….

SF – I am missing you. Would you mind if I posted this on your behalf? Love you sweetie, hope you are doing okay.

Dear Lord, I am unworthy to ask, but I am asking anyway, please Take Care Of Our Earth Angel, David.
Watch over him, protect him from all harm. Cloak him with your love and give him the strength to endure all that thrown in his path. Give him the courage and guidance to say No to those who ask for more than he can reasonably give. Surround him with loving and supportive people who love him as we, his ARCHANGELS do. Seperate him from those who have agendas other than for his well being. Give him rest when he needs it and stamina when he feels fatigue. Give him assurance when he feels doubt. Give him joy when he feels sad. Cloak him always in your protective arms. Keep him healthy and strong so that he can continue to fulfill the Destiny that was written in his Book of Life before he was born.

This I, though unworthy, humbly pray. Amen.

There is not a good end to the day when SF is missing…

Thanks davidfanLIZ…this will be all sorted out and we will have to have good faith…

mellowmom#170, AMEN!!!

I’m afraid our silverfox is without words. I can only feel for her and miss her nightly prayer for David. It’s been a long time since I haven’t seen her prayer… Sure doesn’t feel right…

LIZ, thanks for posting SF’s prayer. It wouldn’t be right for it not to puctuate this day. It truly appropriate.

Thanks david fanLIZ. Maybe now I can get some rest.

I know not one of my people are going to understand my affection for this site………………

Rascal, these past few days have been a rollercoaster ride. But always, always we turn to you to hear your eloquent thoughts on the latest details of David’s career. Each day I come to nD first to see what is up. I have come to love all the posters here most notably SilverFox, hello gorgeous, happy…too many to name. Perhaps you’ll take your leave only to return tan, rested and ready to opine. I wish only the best for you, Rascal. You are a gem.

persimmon#166

You have an interesting name. This from a post by Rascal this evening #166

“Just to give you guys one perfect little example of what’s been going on, I actually received a hate mail about my departure note!! I’m not kidding! Calling me pompous and delusional. Can you imagine? I mean even if you think that, who kicks someone in the ass on the way out? Wow, that’s icy.”

As usual, he says it better than I ever could. And as to whether we here are loyal and supportive, yes we are. I guess I was absent the day the actual loyalty oaths were siged. I am loyal, but I have a right to dissent with his management just as Rascal and anyone else here. At least we used to. I read this tonight on the Golden Archie site, as long as we’re sharing:

“Well, Rascal is gone. He got some really unkind emails and is going to shut down to concentrate on other things right now. This makes me so sad. I have loved the thoughtful comments there and have felt so much love for David. Not always the rah rah kind but it was in a way stronger than the superficial stuff I read elsewhere. People, including Rascal, (who I really believe is a sweet guy with only David’s best interest at heart) took the time to really pour their heart out there. Some of it was not always rainbows, some of it was thunderstorms too, but that’s life and we need the rain to appreciate the sun. And believe me, I felt plenty of sunshine there too. The fact is, though David is still young, he is a once in a lifetime experience. I have read about Rembrandt and Mozart, but never thought I would actually live in a time when an artist of that magnitude lived. Some people don’t get David, just as some people didn’t get those great artists till they were gone and future generations had to learn about them in books. Those blessed with ODD are those who perceive in their very souls that something new and wondrous is on the earth with us today. Those who lived before and those who will live after will miss this miracle. Rascal tried to make people see this, and if he was at times, only lately, harsh with David’s management, it is because he knows what David is and the potential he has to change the world of music, and thereby change the world. It is a sad day. I have not always agreed with him, but he has made me think and cherish my ODD as a real gift of enlightenment in this age. I will miss him and his thoughtful, often hilarious, sometimes irreverent blog and bloggers so much. Rascal truly loves David, and was often moved to tears by his music and whatever love came his way, which was not that often. He carried a huge burden to fight against critics and those who would try to diminish or trivialize David’s gift in any way and for that I will miss him.”

Correction on the posting: rascal’s was at 85.

Wow Rascal, I am totally shocked and my heart has sunk to the floor! My respect and admiration for you is just peaking and you are closing ND? Wasn’t it yesterday that you were talking about going to UK for David’s tour? What had happened within the last 24 hours?

I am a permanent visitor. I start my day here everyday. I know it must be real hard to maintain a blog like this and I marveled at you all the time. But truly, I was expecting this blog to be one of the last ones standing for
David!

David needs ND, otherwise his world journey would be too lonely. He’s barely 18, he needs strong support when he tries to venture into exciting but uncharted waters. ND people understand his “Works for Me” and “Don’t Tell Me.”

It is almost funny. Who am I to ask you to stay? I did not post much. I was bland. You don’t even know me. Why should you listen to me? I am just too s.a.d.

Please take care of your business and yourself first and come back to loudly support David in your own special way. If starting a private forum becomes your decision, please clue me in.

Sincerely,

Peru.

Oh no! Every time I sit down at the computer I have to come here to catch up with the world of David and the bantering back and forth and all the thought provoking, interresting conversations directed by you, Rascal. Unless you actually take this site off the internet, I am going to consider that you are on an extended vacation or a long business trip. We need a postcard from time to time so we know you are still around and that you might actually come back. Thanks for caring about all our opinions!

hm… I am too busy for last 2 months… so I have checked your blog, but have little glance of the comments only, so basically I don’t know what happened at all.

I’m shocked for your leaving.

I love David so much, I hope somedays when his status is what you’re hoping for, you will come back.

Take care.

Rascal! Noooooo!

Your voice represents the grandest vision we could conjure for David.

What would we ever do without notingDavid?

Gosh!

Dear Rascal,

I came out of lurking just to tell you how sad I am after I red that you are going to close this site.

I have been here with you and with all these wonderful people from the beginning. But because of my bad english language and the big time difference, I have not been part of the conversations. I don’t know how to say what I want and when I am here you all are sleeping. Like now.

Today when I came here as usually and red your post I start to cry. And have been crying three hours now.

Somehow I feel like i am loosing David when I am loosing this site. There are adult, fun and intelligent people here and I have felt that I can share my love to David with all of you. And it has been a great pleasure to read your threads and all the comments.

Of course I understand that you have to think your own life too, so I am not mad. Only so sad. And I really hope that you will find time and passion to come back as soon as possible. With your beautiful words (allthoug I need to read them with dictionary) and interesting opinions.

So, thank you Rascal and all the others!

With great respect

Nina, from Finland, living in China now.

Thank you, Rascal for bringing together one of the best groups of fans, ever. I hope your respite at this time is brief; but if not, I wish you an abundance of joy in your future endeavors equal to all the hours, days and months of happiness, delight, tears and laughter you’ve given us. All your time and hard work for NotingDavid is truly appreciated. You may be “out-of-sight” on this blog, but you will be stay in our thoughts…with much love!

:( Rascal

I dont know what to say really, I sympathise with your reasoning but I just feel like your letting ‘them’ win by doing this. You dont always say what the masses think and thats part of what this site great. I dont always agree with what you say but I have never once doubted your intentions or your passion for David and his success, you only have his best interests at heart and no one ‘gets him’ more than you do. Sometimes people forget that. I remember being thrilled when I found this site many, many months ago. It has always been the place where I feel I can relate the most to Davids fans, we may all be different, but we all share the same philosophy on David, that not of one from a fangirl perspective, but one from the artistic and spiritual perspective. I have always come to this site (even for so much of it as a lurker) and I love it here.

Its a shame to see this go and that some of these people have had such a bad effect on you. Sometimes you have to unpopular to stand for what is right, or for what you think and back it all the way to the end. I hope you reconsider but I understand you havnt come to do this to make enemies either.

Good morning everyone! I probably won’t get another chance to post another comment before this blog closes, but I did want to say thanks to those of you who have e-mailed me. I won’t get a chance to respond to all of you but hope to catch up by the end of the month.

Also, for anyone who wishes to see an interim blog – during Rascal’s absence – please check my “All Things David” site (which I haven’t tended to in a while, so busy keeping up my other blog). I will have a new post up directing traffic to the Interim Blog that NDers can use to meet up and share our insights. All Things David is at:
http://allthingsdavid.blogspot.com/

Finally, Rascal, I realize that I forgot to say “I love you” on Valentine’s Day. Well, a day late, but I love you! It’s never too late to say that, right?

I’ve been in tears reading through the latest comments since my last post, which is probably what is propelling me to keep something going – despite my insanely busy schedule (in which I always make time for David and ND). It’s a sad day when the Archangels go to war – that usually signals the beginning of Armageddon and the end of days, doesn’t it? I hope this won’t impact on David in any way. What a travesty that Rascal, as Joymus has said in #135, is the first “casualty.”

Have a great week, everyone – despite recent developments.

Let me add: check the All Things David site for new info at the end of the month, or the beginning of next month.

Peace!

As I fly past the coffee..without socks..without brushing my teeth…I’m going warp speed to inquire on the status of impending doom.

Alas.. doom… is still upon us..

Rascal, I hope you’re still reading and my apologies for blatantly disregarding your request that we stop writing about you and get back to discussing David.

I just wanted to say thanks. I didn’t always agree with what you wrote, but always enjoyed the way you wrote. It was a pleasure and you will be missed.

However, I can’t say that I feel sad. It’s much like when a good friend tells you that they’re moving to another job or another city or another country. I know that they have their own lives to lead, and have very personal reasons for decisions they make. All I can do is hope that something good awaits them where they’re going. I try to think of what it means for them and not for me. So, best wishes to you. I hope you enjoy some peace and much deserved down time from taking care of this blog.

But it’s not like you’re really going anywhere. I know you’ll be following David’s career and will be lurking around the various fan sites and we’ll hear from you sooner rather than later. Someone as ‘verbal’ as you could not possibly keep quiet for too long. Take care of yourself.

Rascal: My oldest son is home for the weekend, so I missed popping in last night and slept late this morning. I got my coffee, came into my office and logged on. Scrolled down without reading the blog header and noticed…goodbyes?

I want to say how much I’ve loved this place. I came here and read for a long time before I finally dared to post. I read your commentary with eagerness, waited for a new post hungrily, read the comments of all these wonderful people with warmth in my heart. It saddens me to see you go, to see the community you have built scrambling for a new home or a place to temporarily hang our hats until you can come back (hopeful thinking!)

You really have built a community, a very rare and bejeweled community filled with diversity and color and sometimes raucous good fun mixed. This has been a gift to us all. Thank you for being here, for daring to call it the way you see it, for giving us this place to share our love of all things David.

I hope you have a good rest, can focus on what you need to and will come back to us when you can. This is a sad day.

Rascal, there is nothing I can say that has not already been said, and so much better, by others. I have loved you and this site since its inception and missed it during the hiatus. I am a longtime lurker who visits every morning and evening and feel so comfortable here.
There is no other place like ND. As sad as I am I wish you all the best and hope you will be back. I will continue to visit as long as the site is up with hope in my heart. Thank you for your hospitality here. Much love and best wishes to you.

HG #190 – Thanks for stepping up, even in the middle of traveling and some personal sorrows.

Let’s all continue to stay in touch while rascal takes his break.

I sent Sf an email. I told her we missed her prayer and asked if she was ok. I hope she posts some feelings today. She is the sunshine of nD.
Thank you LIZ for stepping up in her absence.

Abrra

HG, All I can say is…Thank you. I wasn’t ready to “let you go” yet. Rascal neither, but I DO understand. Doesn’t mean I have to like it!

Thanks, Rascal, for being such an eloquent and elegant host.

Thanks, NDers, for being so much fun, for laying your hearts on the line, for being realistic, for being so compassionate, and for LOVING David so much.

The one thing life has taught me is that there is no black and white, but only shades of gray. This site has given me the opportunity, whether seriously or with wit (I hope) to understand all of the nuances of the joy and sometimes a bit of the sadness that comes from supporting someone I have never met.

And to you, Rascal, Thank you, for answering my questions about ‘how to market, David’. It, truly, has and is giving me a great deal of new perspective. I am sure that it took a lot of your valuable time and it is muchly appreciated.

Until…….

RASCAL – as usual it will take me a while to sort out my thoughts. (((HUGS))) to you. I understand that you must do what is right for you. This is said with tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat.

Thanks for ALL that you have done for David and the NDer’s. Words are not enough, yet words are all I have.

Take care and God Bless

Rascal,
I don’t post but I lurk not just daily but hourly. I have not only ODD but also OnDD. You provided the much needed vision and analytical mind in the mostly saccharine David fanworld. You are the voice of reason guiding me in this perplexing journey. Your passion and jubilance over David’s artistry validated my obsession. Your occasional irreverence is infinitely amusing. I understand your reasons for taking a “sabbatical” at this juncture and I appreciate the heat you took over at some of the fan sites on behalf of those of us who shared your views. What can I say, not everyone inhabits the enlightened world you live, even those who have in the past expressed admiration for your championing of David. You are the greatest fan of David. Your voice will be sorely missed. (Who is going to properly interpret David singing with McFlyless for us now?)
For now we will just have to carry on without you. Like someone said, our heart was broken on Valentine’s Day.
Thank you for all you have done for David and for us.

This is a well established site…can it be left this way and someone(s) (with the abilities) host the site for awhile giving time a chance to pass by? Sometimes we were totally discouraged and dismayed at the plans for David and with time came the answers…he is insulted and has labels and goes on…The good people here are much more valuable to you then may appear and they are worth your staying…

Give the site another thought rascal because of the importance of its existence and its impact on the readers and for the fact that you created something appreciated by so many others…

After fifteen years in the making, we were in mediation Friday and it was the most gruelling experience filled with lies, that anyone could endure. Name calling, untruths, exagerations…and we could not say a word until we were allowed…history making, many $$$$$$$ involved…but in the end we won…stay in there with what you believe in…

Other sites have had similar happenings and it goes with the territory I guess but solutions can be found…

Done my best kiddos…someone take it from here…this is an intervention!!!

I am going to be gone for several hours…I sure hope that rascal & SF will be here when I get back…and that the Phoenix will be rising from the ashes….
the Phoenix is a constant and that is what is needed…

OK How about this……

Rascal please stay for the sake of Siverfoxe. She is apparently in deep mourning over your decision to fade into the shadows. We almost had to be tucked into bed with no prayer last night! Thanks LIZ. ( remember LIZ? she made you cry).

Is it possible to hand the reins over to some loving poster who can keep the lights on for the rest of us, until you return?

Abrra

If Rascal closes the posting here, I don’t know what I’ll do without this site.

So, I’m offering to set up a “sister site” in the next 24 hours if it helps. We can then wait until HG has some time and see if she wants to open her site as she offered. But I can’t wait until the end of the month or mid-March (half of David’s concerts will be over then). I don’t want to loose touch with the people I have “met” here and those I will be meeting at Infinity.

There won’t be beautiful postings like Rascals, but there will be a place to “convene” and discuss and show our love for David.

Thoughts?

Way to go marlie7…it doesn’t have to be beautiful and anything goes to keep going…beautiful postings can come later…not that important…

One last question before I do go…can the makeup of this site be kept and added to???????

/nod
Go for it. We won’t survive the fluffy bunny sites. good for those who can. We have several spiritual, informative and insightful posters to carry us through the tour. Just need a tent until our home is open again.

Abrra

I’m with you SandyBeaches#202:

“This is a well established site…can it be left this way and someone(s) (with the abilities) host the site for awhile giving time a chance to pass by?”

I will go one step further. The Golden Archies site, who despite the name are all in their 40s and 50’s with a few 60ish and more than a few in their 30s faced hurtful critics after AI. Not advocating going there of course, but this….

The site is private. You not only can not comment there, you can’t even enter or view unless you are a member. It was started after AI, when some of the younger fans on the AI forum became critical and insulting of his more mature fans. Also, it is managed by several moderators who take up the slack for whoever needs to take a break and it’s not all on one person’s shoulders. Some of you, like HG are more knowledgable in these matters. I only know that going private worked for the GA when some critics felt they didn’t have the right to express such “inappropriate” thoughts, like appreciating his obvious good looks and even admitting to the sin of ODD at their “advanced” age. Food for thought.

Good afternoon everyone..

I was out most of the day yesterday, came home and found out the sad, very bad news that rascal has taken LEAVE OF HIS SENSES!!

Anyway..I sent rascal an email..he knows how I feel.
But I know there are times when a break is necessary, to regroup, renew, and come back with a new sense of purpose. David is too special, too much loved by rascal, so I really don’t see how he will stay away for good. It’ll be like an itch he can’t scratch or get rid of that only nD
can soothe. So as everyone here has pleaded..go, take care of personal business, rest, see David across the pond..and come back. Your faithful will be waiting.

I tried to register at GA site. I am still waiting for ” approval” and I am 59 yrs old! Good for them. They run a tight ship. Keeping options open. I still rather have what we have here.

#210 Hi SF! I missed you. You know, it was the “Lady Blasting David Archuleta” video that brought me (somewhat) out of lurkdom here many months ago!

When thinking about a simple way to have a private forum, Yahoo groups comes to mind. I am the moderator for some online writing groups that are private and know how to administer that. Perhaps that would suit us for now until we recover from shock and figure out if Rascal will come back or someone else will create a new site.

Any other thoughts on that?

Good morning rascal, if you are reading our comments today. In spite of the hateful people, I hope you feel some comfort as I do when I see so many comments from people coming out to say how much they’ve appreciated this site.

mellowmom and nina6161, your posts made me cry giant tears that I had managed to keep under control until this morning.

Angelica, what a beautiful write up you brought from Golden Archies. More tears. Thank you for that.

YJfanofdavid, thank you for the OnDD! So very appropriate. Now I know for close to a year, we were having OnDD on top of ODD.

This site is my primary site to come to and had become a home to me. I love FOD and Snarkies too and I am terribly saddened that the world out there makes it so difficult for alternative fansites to exist. It’s really not even alternative, it is simply another wonderful site for discussing David and his talent. David’s vast fanbase is made up of vastly different people and DIVERSITY MAKES A LOT OF SENSE, but for now, intolerance wins the day. That’s why I am sad and frustrated.

But for rascal, I remain positive. I believe things will be fine whatever happens.

:(

Are you leaving, Rascal? I thought you didn’t care about what people think! I know I haven’t been visiting much, but I love this site very much, and I love your articles!

I understand that you gotta do what you gotta do. And while a part of me is… relieved you’re closing the comments, I really think that’ll do more damage than good.

Anyways… peace out Rascal. Love ya, babe!

#213 marlie7, Yahoo Groups “Works for Me.”

Nice to see you post SF! Just now got your email. I am glad you seem to be fairing better then most of us. Your love for the site and rascal is an inspiration.

I think everyone should reread #133. Rascal isn’t going away because of the comments or other people’s perceptions. It seems purely personal if I read that right.

Hi everyone: Like all of you a hole has erupted in my David fan world that cannot be bridged. Rascal I wish you well and will look forward to your commentary when you have time to write.

Private blogs are certainly an option and maybe where some of us want to go. I will explore the private, mature David fan sites, thanks for the information.

HG has offered an option of another open blog which some of us are also interested in. If you want to be emailed and keep up to date about the progress on this option until HG gets back from her trip, email me at kizzix2008@gmail.com . We are thinking of something holding true to rascal’s tenants but with guest blogging like at Snarky’s and responsibility spread across a group, rather than anyone individual.

SF, good to hear from you. Someone up thread described you as sunshine, and, for me you are also at the heart of love for David’s artistry.

Warmest regards and well wishes to all of my friends, acquaintances, and reticent lurkers here at notingDavid.

I also have to come out of lurkdom to express my sadness with all of this. Noting David is the one place where I can read and laugh and cry and be shocked and enjoy all of the blogs and comments from Rascal and all of the regular posters – whom I am have come to so admire and respect.

I am a member of the Golden Archies and I would love it if any of you would feel comfortable enough to temporarily visit the forum – just until HG starts hers or Rascal decides to come back.

We have some very thoughtful and intelligent people there – all 35 and older – it is a very diverse group – some realistic, some all rainbows – but the differences make up our substance. I know that our Mods would love to have any of you – all of you could only enrich our site – even if only for a little while.

I will miss the intelluctual debates of all things David on this site. It is where I come to read when the rainbows blind me.

Rascal, you are one of a kind and one in a million. You’re an amazingly talented writer and a man of great passion. Your insights on David will be missed. This is the one site you could count on to have intelligent conversation about David.

Thank you for giving of yourself to us. Your generosity has not gone unnoticed. I wish you the best. I should be so lucky in the future to be honored by more of your writing.

Marlie, I’m with you on anything you set up. I’ll be in touch via email.

Persimmon #166 “I can accept you all are great fans, but are you loyal? Are you supportive? Are you constructive…”

Ouch. That really hurts. A lot. And yet, I somehow knew this would happen. Fan factions splitting off, some deciding what it takes to be a “true” fan, and thereby declaring themselves the “better” fans. Sad, so sad.

I love Snarkys to bits but posting there I often feel as though I’ve sat down at the cool kids’ cafeteria table and they all get up and move to another.

Even though I’ve disagreed with Rascal and many other NDers many times, I’ve never felt that way here. Never. And if anyone has because of anything I’ve posted, I apologize.

So a loyal bunch? Supportive? You bet. (not sure how to be more constructive than trying to spread the joy of David’s music to everyone you know)

David’s fans are so diverse and I’m sure he wants to make room for all of them. I love that there are so many different sites for David. I just wish this could continue to be one of them. Along with the discussions and the gushing, there’s so much wonderful sharing that goes on here. I’ll really miss that but maybe we can figure out a way to carry on for the time being.

SF, thanks for your wise words. You’re right. We Can Work It Out!

Sorry, rambling here. Peace be with you all.

For a temporary home for the group while Kizzi and HG get things going, I invite you to join David’s Annex on yahoo groups.

Just send an email to

davidsannex-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

You will receive a return email with a link to the site. The group is private, so I have to approve the invite. On the comments section when you join, just let me know your avi name here so I can recognize you. I know some of you may not have posted and may want to join. That is fine. Unless someone gets absolutely crazy and flaming on the group, I have no intention of keeping anyone out.

One rule I would like to impose, though, is no copying of anyone’s words to another site without their express permission.

Only members will be able to see the postings.

There are sections to post pictures, permanent links (you can do that in the messages as well), Polls, files, etc. Could be a great place to share David stuff and not lose it!

Vermeer, I feel your pain. I have been in a mourning last night and have not recovered from the shock and sadness. There are excellent suggestions of alternative forums where nDers can convene while we’re Waiting For Rascal, but, Rascal, is it possible that we “squat” here while you are “out of town” taking your well-deserved sabbatical? I know you have indicated you will close the comments, but how about if you allow comments to continue and recycle a picture or something from the past posts (no new materials) every so often to provide some comments relief? Sorry I am resorting to shameless begging.

Love you with all my heart.

A Chinese old saying – If you truly love someone, you provide honest opinions/comments, not showers of dainties.

We didn’t lose a battle/war at all, and we will regroup and get stronger!

SF, great to see you here today. Without your presence, rascal’s house is not quite the same.

HG, you may be gone already but just wanted to say, I’m sorry I didn’t even get around to expressing my sympathy to you and your family what with all that was happening here as well as in my personal life this same week. I wish you well and safe travels.

Longtime lurker and occasional poster here who, along with the rest of you, is struggling to come to terms with the abrupt ending of (or, HOPEFULLY, please, please… temporary break from) what has been such a welcome daily relief for my ODD.

Rascal, you are as brilliant with your words as David is with his artistry, and I am grateful to have been educated and inspired by you and the intelligent, thought-provoking, loving and often hilarious ND community.

I suppose in the coming days and weeks we will all find other fansites to share our love for and information about this remarkable young man who has captured our hearts, but I doubt there will ever be a leader or kinship of fans who will touch me in quite the way that this community has.

Best wishes to all and God bless.

I am at a lost for words! It’s like mourning a lost of a very dear friend. It will take a long time to get over it, if at all.

Rascal – I will not over-analyze, nor question your decision. All I will do is wish you all the best and thank you for welcoming us in your house of David. You don’t know me coz I’ve just recently de-lurked. But I feel that you’ve been my best friend for a very long time, since I’ve found your site last May. Good luck to you and hope to bump into you again in the near future.

All these kind and gracious offers… and I can’t for the life of me pack and leave home. I’m an orphan. I know I HAVE to… and it feels like it’s impending at any second…yet… I can’t make a decision.

I’m not the lurker type, and I have a life that needs time and attention on a daily basis….so I’m not one to jump from site to site. I select carefully, and devote myself to it.

It’s going to be extremely difficult for me to find a new home… and I need direction..horribly. I feel as my compass has been snatched away.

How long before I have to choose…does anyone know?

Dawn65:

This is really a shock, isn’t it? Don’t worry about choosing – I think we are all moving together with a few interim options to keep people together. I offered the Yahoo group for an interim, and I think in the long run, it can perhaps be a place where people can share files, links, vids, etc. if they want to as It has that kind of capability.

But I am also supporting the new site that Kizzi, HG and others are trying to put together, so I don’t think we will be a fractured group. Hang in there!

I am sorry to see the end (temporary or otherwise) of this site, especially in light of David’s upcoming tours. I welcome any and all E mails from anyone here and would love to keep in touch with you. My address is hacienda432@aol.com. David is on the brink of international superstardom and the quality of his music will skyrocket in the coming months as a result of his success and influence. Good luck to all here, and let’s find a way to keep posting and sharing our thoughts and feelings about David.

I think I’ve gotten everyone’s emails down…and I already sent rascal my email info to pass along to happy and marley ..since our tour dates are soon upon us.

well I guess that’s it for now.. until I find a home… I guess.

this was like the worst Vday ever.. even WITH David’s call

Dear Rascal,

I’ve been a faithful reader here most every day, since last Spring/Summer. As I read your “Update”, my heart sank as I read on, not quite believing what was in front of me!

As you wrote in your “Update”…
“It has all been for one, glorious, shining purpose:
The miracle that is David Archuleta.”

Finally, I registered today, so that I can say, “THANK YOU, Rascal!”

Warmest regards and best wishes to you; I hope we all meet again someday!

TOfan #222, Hear, Hear!

My previous post happened to be right after many negative comments and I think it might have come across negative even though I was expressing my sincere thanks to rascal for this site.

I am mostly a lurker, but I have had many wonderful times reading all of your comments here, whether I agreed or not, it was a place of thoughtful reflection and many needed days of laughter. I start my day here and end it here. I feel I know many of you, though you have not gotten to know me.

Rascal, I understand the need to take some personal time. I have tried to give up some of my “David” time to take care of my personal and professional obligations. It’s very hard to do. This ODD is a real pain at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love David. I love everything about him. He has made my life more enjoyable. ND was one of those joys!

Go and do what you have to do, but do please let us hear from you from time to time. Especially if you go see David across the pond. We want to hear about it as only you can do, good or bad!

Take care Rascal, and once again, thank you for all the time you have taken to bring this great meeting place to all of us.

To all the other wonderful, devoted fans of David here at ND. You have been a light in my universe and I salute you all.

Hi all,

We did a little social experiment on Yahoo groups. There was a problem with email addresses displaying, so I have shut down that group. Kizzi is working on something cool, so hang in there.

Rascal I am coming out of lurdom today to say how sad i am that you are taking a break. I so enjoyed visiting here and mostly lurking every day–but I sure did feel comfortable enough when I wanted to say something that I could. I will miss that and your insight. Best wishes from a fellow ad agency gal.( Y&R 20yrs)

Rascal,

David needs you.
How am I going to do when all I can see from hear on is “OMG David is so amazing.”?

Perfect timing. Now that I see that there is an alternative location set up for the regulars, I will close the comments and let notingDavid rest.

Thanks everyone, for all your kind comments.

Think of me
think of me fondly, when
we’ve said goodbye
remember me
once in a while, please
promise me you’ll try

When you find,
that once again you long
to take your heart back,
and be free
if you ever find a moment,
spare a thought for me

We never said
our love was evergreen
or as unchanging as the sea…
but if you can still remember,
stop and think of me

Think of all the things
we’ve shared and seen,
don’t think about the things
which might have been

Think of me
think of me waking, silent
and resigned…
imagine me, trying too hard to
put you from my mind…

Recall those days,
look back on all those times,
think of the things
we’ll never do…
there will never be a day when
I won’t think of you.
